  • I wasn't planning on looking at another Ganzo quite yet, but after the first one I wanted to see what else the company had to offer. The G743-2-BK has been a pleasant surprise thus far. Great lock up and build, nice fit and finish, and a design that looks to be for Gentleman's carry yet capable of much more.
    I'm not sure if I'll ever do a full review, will most likely end up using this one for a mod, but overall I'm happy with it from the get go.

    Ganzo Firebird knives get a bad rap for making "clones" but they are easily recognized and plainly marked " Ganzo" If you take the time to really check, other knife companies copy as well.

    Old video but just my two cents!...I have these knives with orange and with wood scales, they looks cool and the price is great! Actually the fit and finish is impressive for a budget knife. They have a nice weight and feels good in hand. The problem is the design. The flipping action will not get the blade out more than 90 degrees. However, I can get it to lock in place with a wrist snap, but the point is that they are flipper knives and they should flip all the way open. When it comes to the thumb stud, it's completely useless because the blade does not budge.
    I really like the look and feel of these knives and I work around the flipper issue. They have a very nice blade for the money but they need to work on the flipping issue.

      I had same issue with flip opening until I grap frame lock and pull it to the other side, than it close. Now it is great. There was just too much tension to blade from factory. Flip opening is way easier and I don't have problem with opening. It solved thumb opening too because it was immposible.

      Generally speaking it seems they can make a pretty darn good knife. I'd like to find any/more of their original designs!

    It's a rather direct imitation of the Boker Magnum Bondsman. Ganzo is pronounced with an A as in "can". This is one of my favorite Ganzo models, and it looks like you got one with a good action.

      Awesome, that's exactly the information I was looking for. Much appreciated, and I'm glad I got a good one!

      @@nottoosuckyreviews5211 You were right. You know I got one of these. I ljke it but I feel bad because this is direct evidence of the Chinese ripping off American IP. American companies can't compete at these prices for the quality you get.

    Ganzo makes some very sharp 440c knives,,,hard to go wrong buying one or a few of them,,the price and quality is unbeatable,,,I have a older Chinese made blade that looks just like it ,,,but its obvious that the material is of a higher quality standard with Ganzo,,,👍✌

      Agreed, Ganzo has helped me improve my opinion on 440c. Really good stuff!

      Seems like you can put a pretty good edge on it. Even right out of the box, I was able to shave of a patch of hair from my leg in one stroke with my g739. Just ordered a g743, cant wait to try it out.

    The Knife reminds me a little bit of my Cold Steel Holdout.

  • @gust714gg

    Slightly reminds me of a Spyderco Des Horn, but this one looks more beefy and has a flipper. Not saying it's a copy but that was my first impression when seeing the knife. I would prefer this one since it has a flipper and is about $100-120 cheaper.

    • @JTsKnifeLife
      @JTsKnifeLife  7 лет назад

      Yeah, similar look, but the weight difference between this one and the Des Horn is significant. This one feels like a better full use edc that has the look of a gentleman's carry. Nice observation!

    Would you prefer this over the ganzo G753

    • @JTsKnifeLife
      @JTsKnifeLife  7 лет назад +1

      The 753 I have is really smooth and a good knife. This one is more dense, feels heavy, but is really strong and functional.
      That said the axis lock trumps all as long as it's smooth, and the 753 is, so I have to go with that.

    can you remove the thumb stud? It still has a flipper right. I mean, if it is unbearably ugly.

    • @JTsKnifeLife

      Can't remember, but I don't think you can.

    • @tennicktenstyl
      @tennicktenstyl 6 лет назад

      I believe you can. It should unscrew. If you don't mind scratching it, you can use some pliers, because they could have used some thread locking compound. Or just tap it with a hammer or heat it up slightly. But the safest way is to unscrew it with pliers.

    • @makingadifference4834
      @makingadifference4834 5 лет назад

      @@tennicktenstyl I have one but that's not necessary. It's not ugly to me. Im looking at it now and its on there pretty good. IMO you'd make it uglier by taking it off because it appears you'd have to use some heavy duty tool or Superman's heat vision to get it off.

      No, it isn't reversible, unfortunately. I'm a lefty myself but I carry right handed. In my current videos I try to list that information, this one is from quite a while back.

    Nearly all knife makers copy from one another i'm sick of hearing it its a copy of so n so blah blah blah ganzo is a very good make in their own right there are only so many blade shape it's like evolution

    • @JTsKnifeLife

      While I understand where you're coming from, the level at which Ganzo knives are identical to other designs is beyond anything I've ever seen from other instances of it.
      A friend of mine said it best: If Ganzo were an American company, every one of their knives would get them sued. A company like Benchmade could never get away with it.
      Also, if Ganzo had to credit a designer, who would it be? Nobody who works for them.
      That isn't an indictment of their quality or their products as a whole, just how they get their ideas.
