We have one...an '89 with the Cat 3208 like this one. Everybody thinks it's a much older truck than it is. I was prepared for a super rough ride but I am pretty impressed by how it rides and handles. Ours came with a flatbed but we removed that and shortened the frame and are building a custom stepside truck bed for it. I love this old C model.
Love this style of Ford cabovers. 🥰I drove a 1965 C800 single axle tractor. That was my first tractor to drive. I think they started this style in 1959. It was easy to get into, easy for city driving and quite fun to drive...not to mention eye catching. 😳We put road lights on the front, spot lights on the back, extended mirrors to pull mobile homes and additional cab lights..it would glow at night. Brings back some good memories!🥰
Always glad to see a c-series still kicking. As a kid whenever I saw one I'd think it was a really old truck. Little did I realize that the design might be old but the truck might have been younger than I was! I always enjoy your videos.
The C series Ford's first diesel engine was a Cummins I-6 small displacement. The first Cat was the 1160, then 3208. Ford tried using the British built Dagen- ham Ford diesel, but it stuck out the back of the cab and wasn't practical for straight job use. The C- series cab was also used on the high cab Ford H highway tractor. This was also built as a prototype set back axle for P.I.E. to test.
They were also known as “the knuckle buster” the manual ones, you would bang your knuckles every time when you shifted into the forward gears on the dash.
Seeing this again now in 2921. Still a cool truck. Mack had this cab back in late 50s. Ford had a 1859 model which I think was the 1st year for Ford. Loved this style of cab. We owned a 65 C800. Did you buy this one?
Despite the rust. It's a very solid truck! The Ford C-8000 was by far one of the most live longed truck's in American truck history! As I understand from the "History of Truck's " book. Printed in 1985. Is that Mack designed this famed cab over design in 1957. And Ford bought the copyright from Mack. Unless the author made an error. Nice video of one of my all time favorite truck's!
Mack made trucks with that cab for a few years, the Mack N series, think during the same years Ford was making the C series. Drove 3 that my fire dept had, nice trucks.
Interesting, I never knew who designed the cab, I just knew that they were manufactured by Budd. They were a huge seller for Ford, and as John mentioned, Mack used them on their N series from '57 - '62. FWD also used this cab on some of their models. Thanks for your effort in posting these videos DDD!
Its a Budd Cab & Mack Truck in 1956 model N I think . Boston Fire bought 29 of its 34 Engines in that Cab, they were fantastic like driving a sports Car.
I used to think these flat front Ford tilt cabs way back in the day like mid '60's when I was VERY young. But noq, I am actually more interested in the red Chwvy/GM truck next to it. that one has the body lines from.the mid '70's til. early Chevy/GMC trucks and could be used for a medium dity pickup truck.
Yes, I know it's a Cat 3208, but in this case it's probably branded (on the valve covers) as a "Ford V636 Diesel by Caterpillar" - 1980 was the final year for that branding. This rig has an Allison AT545 transmission, so I guess the 3208 here makes 175 hp.
ClassicTVMan1981X as a 17yr Jr Mechanic I'm really fascinated about the specs you just layed down in your comment. You seem to really know your stuff. Bravo
The Village of Rockville Centre New York had several of these as garbage trucks back in the middle and late 1970's.Most of them did have the V636 Caterpillar engine.Nice roomy interiors, but poor turning radius and harsh ride in the landfills. They were easy to get in and out of and also had good visibility.Allison transmissions were great when working properly.
Yea rust didnt kill um here no one had any use for them here in my area they've all went to the scrap yard I know I go to upstate ny where my family is from and everyone's got old trucks and tractors not here tho 😪
Almost. That was this cab raised about a foot to make an over the road truck. I think that was the H series. It was replaced by the W series, which was replaced by the CL series.
ok you are 1/2 right if automatics transmission it was not a Ford it was Allison Automatics AT540 the reason I this is because I drove many of them AT540 was 4spd AT650 is 5spd Allison
My Dad drove one back in the late 50's I think it was. Replaced a White 3000. It was always an ugly, shitty riding truck, Drove a few, hated them. Can't believe they lasted that long

Just goes to show you that not every truck needs to be a 359 Pete to be cool!

When I was a kid Philadelphia Sanitation's garbage trucks were all Ford C cabs.
I was at this auction in palmyra and I started it up when I thought it was you behind the cab looking at the engine. Very cool video!
Pretty smokey when it was running!
That tank is off of an M-50 Military tanker truck , commonly used for water . I drove them on my second enlistment in the Corps.
Please do. And find out for sure! I mean your knowledge on truck's and construction equipment is impeccable!
They were also known as “the knuckle buster” the manual ones, you would bang your knuckles every time when you shifted into the forward gears on the dash.
Cool old truck with a face only a mother could love.
When Roadway heard this model was being discontinued they bought all of the remaining inventory.
I heard they kept Making them for Roadway. Where they all Go Anyway . I cant find One

I'm looking for one of those to do a build but it's hard to find with little rust . Especially where I live. Good video! Like the info
Awesome Ford C-Series Cabover truck I love those
I looked at the ford wiki, the C series came into production in ‘57
Despite the rust. It's a very solid truck!

Hmm, could be! I have a History of Mack trucks book in the basement I've been meaning to read. Maybe now is the time.

My dad had a brand new 1957 or so. Fuel oil tractor/trailer for Mobil Oil in Norwalk Ct. it replaced a White 3000
Love those White 3000's
You do lots of cool videos man
Thanks friend.

These trucks used both the Detroit and CAT engine
Detroit Diesel 8.2L was in the lower-rated series (C700 and C80) while the 3208 was in the C8000s.
Nice truck
Great storyline DailyDieselDose
Thx !

Thank you for the compliment, Davie!
The valve covers were sporting the Cat 3208 logo in this truck. Who can tell what happened over the years with this truck and rebuilds, etc.
I figured the original engine was changed and replaced by a remanufactured one!
Every NA 3208 I've seen was rated for 210 hp.

I miss the Ford C-series & the L-series
Love the Ford cabover...did you buy it? I drove a 65 C800 with 390 gas, 5 & 2sp single axle tractor...loved it.
I started driving a 1985 c600 trash truck good vid
Recently purchased a 1979 Ford C8000, any idea where to find any body parts?
I'm in sc ugh wish I lived in the northern states hard to find trucks like these
The rust due to use of road salt really has killed most of the older trucks here in the north.
Yea rust didnt kill um here no one had any use for them here in my area they've all went to the scrap yard I know I go to upstate ny where my family is from and everyone's got old trucks and tractors not here tho 😪
Two story falcon

Did you win the bid???

Ugly & hard riding,, My dad had one to pull a single axle fuel oil trailer for Mobil Corp.
