    What a find!
1968 was the first year that the Cat 1160 (or Ford V-225) was available for these mediums. There were also three smaller sizes: the 1150 (aka V-200), 573 CID and the 1140 (V-150) and 1145 (V-175), both 522 CID. All four of these had a 4.5" cylinder bore (the 1140/45 had a 4.1" stroke; the 1150 a 4.5" stroke; and the 1160 a 5" stroke), and all were replaced for 1975 by the 3208 (or Ford V636), which used the exact same bore and stroke as the 1160.

These tough small cab over Fords did a lot of duty back in the day, Oil tanks, steak body, straight truck van, garbage truck. Love the classic look of this model. Hope you bring her all the way back.

We had a 69 with a 534 double ignition gasser, with a 5 speed, with a 750 gpm Hale pump, and an 89 with a 3208 cat 5 speed Spicer with a two rear end,had a Grumman firecat body with a 1000 gpm Hale pump. Loved em both! I worked em over 25 years ago,and as far as I know(as of 5 years ago) both were still first line units with small rural fire departments!
Love em love em love em!

I love those old Chevy and Ford cabovers, they were fun to drive and I miss seeing them on the road, and that holds true for other older trucks
    Best wish on the Ford.

I bought a very similar 63 C850 last summer and I've been working on it in my spare time to get it ready for some occasional heavy hauling. I'm by no means an expert but I've picked up enough to point you in the right direction with parts and info. Feel free to contact me if you have questions.
Two bits of advice. #1 check the slave cylinder for the clutch. If the rubber boot on it has failed like mine it will be rusted solid.
The part number is cast right into it. Before you pay top dollar for a replacement keep searching until you find a listing with multiple part numbers. Look those up as well I found mine listed from $80 up to around $250. With a bit of digging and looking up alternate numbers I found that they were readily available for $20.
#2 get a grease gun and grease the heck out of every grease fitting in the shift linkage between the shifter and the transmission.
There are a lot of them. At the very least drown all of them in penetrating oil while you work on other things.
#3 get a cd copy of the parts manuals. They have a lot of exploded views and part numbers. You'll need those because almost nobody has the books to look these up anymore.
Best of luck. Looking forward to the next update.

Good to know. I have a 5 speed C700 with rough shift throws and a rusty master cylinder.

conquest562 The shifter linkage on these is stupidly complicated. I advice is to get someone in the cab to wiggle the shifter in and out of a few gears while you watch the linkage and see what’s worn out. Pretty much all of it is obsolete but there are some parts floating around on eBay. It also helps if you grease all the grease fittings in that linkage front to back. There are more than you might expect Including a couple that are between the engine and the frame rail. The master cylinder is into pieces. The part that fails is still available. You can look it up on NAPA‘s website. Just make sure when you’re entering the type of vehicle you switch from passenger car to medium duty truck on the little pulldown tab.

I had a 62 C600 dump truck. It was too far gone but the 292 Y block still ran. Sold it to a nursery for decoration purposes and went out and bought a barely running but now mint C700 with a 370 big block gas and 5 speed manual trans.

There are reasons that these things are in a junkyard. Rough riding ,cramped cab, noisy, just to name a few. Save the loud country music loop and good video skills for a more worthy project!
