What is funny is we have always worried about Hextech falling into the "wrong hands" and always considered Jayce and Viktor to be the "right hands". But this episode showed that ANYONE is capable of completely misusing Hextech. After all, the first casualties caused by Hextech were Jayce killing a child and Viktor killing Sky.

And she was looking at her blood mixing with water, not the oil and water Vi mentioned...so she was thinking their relationship could work.
Also, Cait is the blue one, the rain, while Vi is the hot blooded one, the red.
Also notice in episode 2, when Cait is in her garden standing in the rain after her parents forced her to stop seeing Jayce, she is using a red umbrella, which protects her from rain. The umbrella has the exact same design as Vi's red jacket. So that's a bit of foreshadowing as well. And when she breaks up with Vi, they are standing in the rain. In episode 2 her mother is telling her to come inside from the rain, in this episode she is telling her to go after Vi, in the rain.

with mel, i think an important distinction to make is that she never actually called for war or to attack the undercity, she called for "countermeasures." Now, yes, once weapons are made, as her mother said, they are likely to be used, but Mel never expressed any sort of desire to go to war with the undercity. She's definitely not a warmonger like her mother.

Mel's actions were NEVER vague about what she was doing or wanted. The only thing that was unknown until this episode was the impetus for her drive.
She is politically and ideologically diametrically opposed to her mother in every way. Oil and Water.
Go back and rewatch the show. Mel is one of the most above board characters in the story.
When Viktor and Jayce show her that grenade Mel naturally asks uf the undercity could make a weapon with the gemstone. Viktor dismissively replies that it's possible.
And THAT was the first moment Mel ever mentioned defensive weapons.
This notion that no one could figure her out is horseshit.
She literally stated in ep 2 that she wanted something to invest in thst would put Piltover on the map. To make her city prosperous and renowned.
She's on the board city councilors. And she was LITERALLY the only one doing her job for the benefit of the city.
Jayce even recognizes that fact in front of the entire council before show's end.
The only people tricked by Mel were audience members tricking themselves.

I think Mel didn't just randomly switch - she was never pro-war, she was always trying to prevent it. But knowing war, and knowing what advanced weaponry on the opposing side means, she wanted to keep her side safe, as safe as it could be.
She doesn't show much empathy during calm times, working primarily to get herself ahead and acquire power, but when it comes to such major issues like this, she does have empathy and a clear head.
You could say that maybe the reason she acquires power and builds weapons is that she knows that someone has to have power and someone has to build weapons, and the only way to keep everyone safe is to be that someone... she's also an idealist in the end, even though she's been exploiting the idealism of others. She believes power and weaponry wouldn't corrupt her.
I really started liking her in the end.

I agree! I didn't like her very much at the start, I thought she was very cutthroat and a typical ruthless, business-minded type of person who didn't care who she'd step on. But in the final arc I think it reveals a lot of her character: she doesn't want war, but she knows what losing looks like. So she will simultaneously try to prevent but also makes contingency plans that mean if war DOES happen, she's going to come out on top.

She's sick of Piltover's lies. She's sick of people around her being anything but trustful. She's sick of hipocrisy. And so, she's the SINGLE topsider who is willing to face the truth of the undercity, accept it and do SOMETHING about it, even if it means shredding everything she's being taught before. *Spoiler Free*
Here are four things to consider that might help understand Jinx's perspective about Catylin.
    1. Catylin is an enforcer. Both Powder and Vi lost their biological parents in the uprising to the enforcers. They lived in constant fear and brutality under the enforcers, remember how in episode 2 an Undercity citizen spits on Marcus's shoe and their response is to throw the guy through a window! Then as the kids flee into the alley they see enforcers pinning and chocking someone against a wall. The enforcers are brutal to the citizens of the Undercity.
    2. Marcus is an enforcer who arrested Vi, threw her in jail, and then lied to both Silco and Powder about Vi being dead. In episode 6 when Vi explains that she was arrested Powder responds with "Marcus" because she isn't stupid and can put it all together. Then in episode 7 when Powder is stabbing Silco in the face Silco says "Marcus never told me she was in Stillwater", so at this point we can verify that Powder knows that Marcus is directly responsible for neither her nor Silco knowing that Vi was alive for 6-7 years.
    3. Powder went 6-7 years with the crushing guilt and belief that her actions got everyone in her family that night killed. She believed that Vi was dead, the one person who always loved her and stood by her was gone. Not only that but the last words Vi ever spoke to her was that she was a "Jinx" before Vi "abandoned" her. The pain of this loss and the lack of closure drove Powder to madness. Marcus, the chief enforcer, the guy that is supposed to be the highest symbol of law and justice for Piltover was directly responsible for throwing Powder's sister into the living hell of Stillwater prision and took away any chance in those 6-7 years for her to reconcile with her sister. Take a moment to let that sink in.... damn.
    4. After everything that Piltover and the enforcers have done to them her sister is helping an enforcer. An enforcer, the very people responsible for her parents deaths, the oppression of her fellow citizens in the undercity and who threw her sister into Stillwater prision for years. After all of this her sister Vi has sided with an enforcer!? Why would Vi do this!?
The answer in Powder's/Jinx's mind is that Vi has abandoned her for Catylin because Powder's/Jinx's actions from the night Vander, Mylo, and Claggor died, as well as Powder's/Jinx's actions under Silco in the last 7 years, has made Powder/Jinx unlovable. Powder/Jinx is so afraid that she has become so unlovable that her own sister would rather side with an enforcer than with her, because how can anyone love Powder/Jinx when all her life everyone has always wanted to be her enemy. Powder/Jinx is projecting herself onto Catylin.

And it's such a same since a lot of it is just from a big misunderstanding, and if they just talked it out, it could be resolved, but Jinx is so traumatized and hurt she can't even have a genuine vulnerable conversation without having that baggage bubbling back up and getting in the way. From the voices she hears, to her hesitation to trust anybody, she's unable to resolve her issues, and it all gets expressed out as fatal violence to anybody around her. Like you want to help her bc we empathize with her, but if you try to approach her, the trauma makes her into a cactus with her finger on the trigger.

@@n0bleonline222 Jinx *is* jealous, there is no denying that. I think it's a bit weird how people can instantly acknowledge the weird vibes between Jinx and Silco, but not between Jinx and Vi. At the end of the show, when Jinx is convinced that Vi doesn't love her because she can't kill Caitlin, it's out of a possessiveness and intensity that is not very normal to feel for your sister LMAO and that is definitely a multi-faceted thing, including not only what the comment said, but also because Jinx wants from Vi the same devotion, special treatment and attention she gave her before they separated. Poor Vi had impossible standards to reach in Jinx's eyes from the get go.
And even back then, Powder was so dependent on her sister's undivided favor that it only took Vi to go with Mylo's advice and not include her in the plan to save Vander that Powder completely lost it. She can't deal with being second to anyone in Vi's life, including her own romantic interests now that their bond is completely fucked up because of all the trauma. I thought that Jinx being jealous and scared of Caitlin replacing her the entire show post time skip would make that clear, but it's insane how almost no one talks about it. Like, I get that it's a bit icky and difficult to acknowledge, but it's definitely there.

There's a shocking amount of reactors who end up thinking a big purple shimmer beast in a glowing armored suit with claws, running at a full sprint to the left, gets hit by Jayces hammer blast and just...instantly and magically transforms into a small kid in overalls standing there looking forward, the running momentum completely disappeared the suit disappeared and the twitching purple rage beast turned into a surprised looking child (that you just saw push the alarm a moment ago). You see that they're a separate security force called in, the appearance is completely different, and it doesn't make physical sense for it to stop them turn them and just vanish the armor even IF it was a kid inside.
At least the Vi confusion in episode 4 makes sense. At least there you actually do see Vi's face for a moment, and you know where they got confused and why. But I can't even see where this confusion could even start, there's nothing that should make you draw that conclusion, there's no connection at all. Jayce kept missing his moving target and eventually hit a bystander, and the two had vastly disparate appearances and positions. It boggles the mind how so many people end up reaching that conclusion.

@@ulisesmontoya9366 it’s more like slight of hand/ cognitive blindspot stuff. Like, it reminds me of illusionist tricks, where you pull someone’s focus one way and it literally blinds them to reality once they’ve decided they understood the situation, but from the outside you’re screaming “it’s so obvious!!”. They decided they had an answer, so none of the other clues registered since they no longer were trying to connect the dots. Same with the Vi thing, 90% of the scene shows a completely different person and makes it super obvious, but if you saw that one flash frame of Vi’s face and decided “yes, that is Vi” instead of still questioning it, the rest of it just goes over your head, you’re not looking for details on something you already “confirmed”.
It’s not necessarily anything to do with being clever or smart. Confidence tricksters do this as a living because people underestimate how often our minds fill in the blanks like that and deceive us.

Anyways, even if Jayce's decisions are deeply wrong at times, I have to say I respect him a lot. As you two said, a lot of the topsiders are looking out for their own interests but Jayce genuinely wants to do good. His worldview is horribly limited, which is why I actually hope he gets to see the Undercity more in season 2. If he gets to expand his worldview, see the perspectives of other parts of the city, I fully believe he could change the world. If he surrounds himself with the right people because the people surrounding him have a big effect on him.
I hope Vi and Caitlyn team up more with Jayce. Vi has knowledge about Zaun, Cait just gets shit done in general and is amazing at her job and Jayce has the influence with his seat on the council. I just hope they can turn Piltover (and Zaun I guess?) into a better place for everyone.
Editing this to say Ekko should also help out. He might be even more focused on Zaun's future than Vi is and he's already helping his people out a lot. They should really just throw Ekko a seat on the council to represent Zaun or something, damn.

Just because you chose to harshly judge her on narrow judgemental views without knowing her whole story doesn't suddenly mean she's done a 180 out of her characterization. She's done great just like every other character in this show, the only negative is small bits of her past should have been placed throughout the show a bit more is all.

Emphasis was placed on Mel's persistence in pressuring Jayce to develop weaponry; coupled with the fact that she was introduced to him in a conversation about investors; it wasn't a leap to assume she was war profiteer. Only in this episode are we given the context that Mel is afraid of war and desires deterrents and countermeasures to avoid it.

I think it is a good question if silko made it worse, or if it changed but stayed worse. When Sevika in the 4th episode came back to the underground, the people in the lanes looked much wealthier. They even had no more problems with the enforcer. But on the flipside now a counsel of criminels (the chembarons) with silko on the top are calling the shots. Instead of working in chem mines (for which jayce designet the gauntles) like before (remember Silkos speech about air) they work in shimmer factorys. Nothing changed with the water it was polluted before Silko, so nothing get better here. And in exchange for some wealth for other and control for himself he created addicts. And he didn't have made progress for his dream to become independet. So all in all it is not a great developing, but also under Vander there was no positiv development, he cemented the status quo. I think that was his greatest mistake, people who are treated bad need some hope of change even if it is not realistic, it is better than to think there will never be a change.

Though it feels somewhat weird to compliment you ladies for your so earnest Arcane reactions, seeing the heartache and frustration you're experiencing....but, thank you?
But, you ladies are the proof of the vivid and palpable excellence of Arcane
Here's my perhaps oversimplified take. on the beauty and tragedy of Arcane's characters and their story:
The principal instigation of the suffering and anguish of Undercity and Topside, Piltover is like if our World War I and II were combined. The personal tragedy of the lives and social conflict of World War I were far more complex and entangled than that of World War II, BUT the tragedy of the advanced means of warfare of World War II was far more globally devastating.
That's the heartfelt and heartbreak of Arcane. Arguably, Piltover's originating provocation was the evolution of the oppressive classism of Topside that deteriorated their relationship with the Undercity.
Piltover "Word War 1": All out war was prevented when principals like Vander and Grayson stood in the gap, which didn't resolve the classism oppression and discontent but kept escalation in check.
Piltover "World War II": The life and social upheaval of the promise and curse of the era of Arcane magic.
All the extant personal lives and social tragedy now made NUCLEAR by Hextech and Shimmer.
Again, thank you ladies for your great Arcane Reactions.

In the last scene of the episode, when Cait sees te Monkey on the mirror and she trying to grasp the situation, Jinx is actually sitting behind her.
Its easy to miss she really only vissible after the steam settles which is about 2-3 seconds before the episode ends.
Shes also placed in the back ground where you focus naturally isnt..
