As a 340i owner, I love the M3. I love the front end, the comp seats, the wide fenders, and how it handles for a 4 door midsize sedan. The 340i IMO sounds better though.
That being said, I could not justify paying double the amount of my 340i for the m3. I just dont think the M3 is twice as good. Bought my wife a glc300 with the leftover $$ lol

Agreed for the price its not that much better had m4(individual launch spec) and have 440 grancoupe. The mpe on the M has i guess more variations in the sound it makes vs mpe on the 40i but id say 40i still has a better overall sound. The M however with equal length midpipes def sounds alot better than the b58.
Yea tbh id rather dump the rest of the money you’d spend on a M3 building my 340 they’re fun and easy to make power with also with not much you’ll take on an M3

A bit unfair to have the comp pack for the M3 and not the MPPK for the 340i, increases the gap
The whole comparison is obviously "unfair", meaning the video simply shows the difference in performance between the two, not racing them to see which is quicker, because it's obviously the M3.
I'm aware of that, i'm just saying that by using a more powerful version of the already faster car it gives the impression that the difference is bigger than wha tit actually is.

A base f80 will put busses on a mppk 340, this video doesn’t say anything
M3 wins no doubt but I just wish the new M3 had a more special engine to seperate it from the 3 series like the previous generation did.

I own a 2016 340i 8at, jb4 tune map 3, vrsf downpipe, bms intake i spank m3’s all day in a straight line. Now on a track m3 is king.
dont sleep on the new b58 engine. Theres a reason why the new supra has it.

M3 is obviously cooler and handles way better but I think the 340i is better value. Also the b58 sounds way better than s55 and still makes good power

Yes. When traction control is not off, wheel spin is limited on the rear wheels by limiting power. When traction control is off, no power is limited, all up to you as the driver on how you manage wheel spin. A good driver will limit wheel spin by knowing exactly when (which gear at which point) to go full throttle. For example, with traction off, full throttle on gear one will have you instantly writing S marks rather bolting away, so some, will launch in second gear and hold it longer before shifting to third. But that won’t always give you the best 0 - 60 times.

What this video really shows is how unfair it is we (UK) can't have unlimited motorways like they have with parts of the autobahn in Germany. When our politicians suggested raising the limit to 90 (from 70) mph, various 'safety' groups shit themselves and went mental so the idea was shelved.

giorgio tsoukalos unfortunately these don’t really work in the UK AFAIK. Fixed speed cameras everywhere and the fines are linked to your salary/income nowadays.

This is pretty interesting because I can afford a 340i on my salary lol can't afford a M3 so it would be pretty cool to get a 340ia nd maybe just tune it a bit for a more M3 feel but I imagine the drive is drastically different.

Go for the 340i. I'd rather go for a newer, slightly lower power car with lower miles than go with an older, slightly more powerful car with more miles..which is exactly what I done a year ago.
Manjot Singh Bassi 340i is definitely worth it, a simple tune and mods and you are easily in m3 territory
Look at how fast the 340i maxes out it’s speedometer! The M3 will never reach that 330 on the dash without a tune.

Critical question; which is louder? F30 340i M Performance exhaust or F80 M3 M Performance exhaust. It’s the only thing holding me back from the M3 - I own the 340i M Performance exhaust and it’s impressively loud.
I have 340ix with 462hp 630Nm... M3 Comp. for a dinner guys! And M4, M2, M3, X6M, X5M, M550i etc etc etc :) ))))
I agree a simple Stage 1 tune gives you M3 power and speed. Just not track Performance. 405BHP/ 560NM and thats without MPSK.
@@superstarsfastcars I HAVE A 340i w/mppsk, vrsf chargepipe, down pipe, and dinan springs. Take off and pulls definitely are stronger w/o turbo lag. What tune are you referencing in your comment? My goal is 425 - 440hp & 600 -630NM.
@@marquesrane2889 Truetune from SA Tuning. I have downpipe, and custom Tune. I think you will be looking at a stage 2 tune for those numbers.

340i xDrive 0-100km/h is 4,6sec. 340i 0-100km/h is 4,8sec (bmw claims), or how your time that 4.5 on this video?
jf c obviously different roads were used for both videos and the 3 series was on a downhill, in the real world even a base f80 would put busses on even an mppk 340.
@@fpsgamingcashcups not accurate they have done test mppsk 340i gets a better launch and the M car normally catches up/passes after 6-10 second
@@NihilistSolitude you literally have no idea what you're talking about a stock f80 can trap 120mph+, the 340i with that factory tune will get nowhere near that, and would get bus lengths in any extended run against f80/82. The f80's also come with a limited slip diff, so in any normal metric of comparison it would be buslengths, I've seen these two run many times, and you need significantly more aggressive modding and tuning/gas to get on the f8x level.
@@fpsgamingcashcups considering I have a 340i mppsk with m limited slip against m3 I do know what I'm talking about, I always have a better launch 0-60 I'm winning 60-80 they closed the gap 80+ they smoke me.

I'm with you. I actually traded in M3 to 340i. Surely 340i isn't as fast, but it happens to be much more usable in every day life. Here in Finland with rough road surfaces M3 is just unbelievable loud (tire roar makes your ears bleed). 340i with MPPSK and M-performance LSD is very good package :)

Neil Baldacchino weight reduction means that it'll have less sound isolating parts. So it'll bound to be noisy 😂 The competition pack is good on a track day but I won't use it as an everyday car

It is not you, it is the truth. Less sound deadening in M3 and harder bushings bringing the road noice via car body to interior.
It’s just you. The higher the speed the bigger the lead the m3 would pull.

Considering my 340i with MPPSK and aero kit is about $67,000, it’s really not a poor man’s m3
That's the dumbest thing I have heard in a while. You buy what fits your needs and correct, a 340I is over 60k. Daily driver vs. Track car, it's what you use it for.

M3/M4 for the Track, 340i/440i for the streets, m3 handles better is quicker faster everything, the 340i is a street car it’s meant to be tuned and played with

Who ever is driving the 340 doesn’t lunch it properly, the 340 easily does 4.6 sec 0-60 , 5.1 is a very slow time.
with that extra 8.000 the 340 willl be faster and with that way better engine in it

340i does 0-60 with esc and traction off in 4.2 seconds
If you have an x drive and take out rollout then MAYBE. Its 4.8 in perfect settings
@@fresco4500 If you can get a perfect launch in sports + then you can get 4.2. Ideally in cars I’d say manual mode would have worked better, but the ZF 8 speed is quick by itself

With a stage 1 map the difference is negligible and the price difference does not make the extra cost worth it with the M3. The 340i can also tow as per the manual while the M3 can't/should not as per the manual. They are not racing cars after all.

@@justthisguy1948 ok so lets see. The M3 has a wider track width due to its 275 wide rears and 255 front. The m3 has adaptive M suspension which doesn't really make the car handle better just more refined. Then there is the ride height the m3 sits quite a bit lower, easy fix - change the springs. You see, there really is not a lot of difference. I also prefer the B58 engine it's an engineering marvel compared to the N55 which is BMW's old tech. The M3 has vented brakes, granted these are better than the m performance pack on the 340. But tell me again why I should spend another 20k on an m3, the differences don't make sense from a cost perspective
Insurance on an M3 will be considerably more also due to the wrong people owning them, people who generally can't handle the power.
AT10M 00 the prestige and resell of the m3 is far greater than the 340 I have an e90 m3 and an f30 335 despite the 6 year age difference the m3 looks feels and drives better and if I got to sell it it’s worth more
@@justthisguy1948 I agree the M3 is more prestigious than a 340 this is down to perception and want but this is another argument. I was and as many others have said it doesn't make sense to buy an M3 over a 340 from a financial perspective. I bought a 2 year old 340 fully loaded, merino leather etc etc with 10k miles for half of what a 2 yr old M3 costs amd this is the cheapest m3 I could find with more miles and my 340 is better spec'ed than most the stock M3's because most people lease the M3's and tend not to add options. So financially, which is the argument here the M3 doesn't give the gains to warrant the extra cost.

jachob69 do you really think it’s worth an extra 20k for a m3? I could easily put a jb4 and a dp on my MY14 335i for like 2k and will be able to keep up with a m3. Your literally paying 20k for cosmetics lmao.
i wouldn't say it is worth it, because i could never justify that money, but the m3 will hold its money far better, whereas the 340i will devalue drastically. i was more saying if you were offered either one, nobody in their right mind would take a 340i over the m3. and yes the 340i can be tuned easily to be as quick or quicker, but now the m3 is turbocharged too, it wouldnt take a lot to be getting that engine seeing 500bhp. but a 340i or a 335i are what i am looking at for my next car as i couldnt justify the m3 money! but either car... they're fantastic
Dumb comment. Of course if you offer it for free w/o other factors people will take the faster more expensive one. But when you talking about spending your own money and which is a wiser choice I think that's what they are referring too. For 2-4k you can mod the 340 to be as fast. Let's be honest. No one is driving these cars on regular roads like they are at the track. So daily normal driving, the speed difference is definitely not really noticeable. M3 get to stop light.... One one thousand then 340i arrive. Oh heyyy✋

I’ve driven both on and off the track. For road use the 340x drive is amazing and mine is modded. I prefer the drive of it. For the track if take an m2/m2 comp over the m3/4 any day of the week. Most people drive an m for the wider body and m badge and think they are the king of the road. While the s55 is strong and quick it sounds like absolute garbage. My eyes light up when I see one then my ears cringe when I hear it. The sound doesn’t fit the look. I would actually take the ats v over the m3 and I did. Sounds better and handles better and makes more power per mod and less expensive.
