Should you avoid meat if you have high homocysteine? It's more complicated than just what you eat. What's more important is what your body does with it. Watch this video to learn more!
Hey Doc, why are u not posting anymore videos? It’s fascinating have a cardiologist that is not drug and cholesterol focused, and understands prevention. Please continue your videos! I’m a big fan :)
Is there an exit path from the methionine -- homocysteine loop that involves glycine? I got interested in what happens with methionine when it was shown that restricting that have the same effect as calorie restriction in lifespan. And, that it wasn't really restricting protein which has that effect, just that one amino acid. It has further been shown that glycine works like restricting methionine! So, it wasn't excessive methionine, but glycine deficency which caused the problem! So, I wonder if all this has something to do with reducing homocysteine. And if glycine does that. I noticed in a comment that there might be some confusion about which vitamins are needed for the methionine -- homocysteine loop. As we were told in the video, we need: B6, B12, and folate. For all with the MTHFR genotuype, they should take the methylated forms of these vitamins. But everyone could benefit from those forms. I would add that folic acid isn't the same as folate for those with that genotype. But others can convert it much better to folate, so it works for them. I've noticed that there are now beginning to appear multivitamins with methylated forms of these vitamins. More expensive, of course.
Homocysteine levels compared between PCOS patients and control group showed a significant difference. PCOS group was divided into insulin resistant (IR) (LogHOMA-IR≥0.57) and non insulin resistant (NIR) patients. The IR group had significantly higher homocysteine (p-value=0.02), fasting insulin and glucose levels (p-value
Love your clear explanation, Doc! Keep up your posting. I use a phosphocholine complex supplementation to help people bring down homocysteine. It's a different pathway, like how you explained, from taking B vitamins. There's a study indicated that while B vitamins are able to lower homocysteine level but somehow unable to reduce cardio risks. Do you think the choline route may work better?
Omg. This video just saved me impossible online search. I have no "real" doctors near me, they're all modern medicine doctors, so they don't understand the human body, only Rx. Thank you doc. And yes I agree with the comment, please post more videos. If you're being threatened and they're holding your med certificate hostage, let us know. We'll support you anyway we can.
Can someone please recommend a sublingual methylated B complex supplement that doesn't have all the added junk (like so-called "natural" flavors and glycerin)?
TMG is probably the cheapest and most effective way to methyllate homocysteine. A 1-4 grams intake costs about 50cents, while most B-vitamins are in the micro-milligram ranges, a thousand times less than TMG.
People in my family caanot go on a vegan diet. Those of us that have start having personality changes. The 2 members that did became very aggressive. They would yell quite a bit. Plenty of people go on vegan diets, but it is not for everyone.
@@onaraider2007 actually on further research I came across how salt deficiency can be linked to B12 deficiency. Hydrologic acid in the stomach needs salt to make. If you're stomach acid is too low your body doesn't make the intrinsic factor needed to process B12. It all relates to a sodium deficiency. Sodium is an electrolyte and is needed in the blood and nervous system and the cells. Electrolyte= electrical function. I was getting migraines, foot cramps, excessive weight loss, dark urine and low folate. All these symptoms relate to salt deficiency or hydronatremia. Low B12 is linked to elevated homocysteine so I am sure that is linked to salt deficiency as well.
Hello! I am a 32 year old woman with very high homocysteine, low B12 (also fut2 non secretor meaning I can’t utilize all the serum B12). Also MTHFR homozygous.... I am looking to start B12 supplementation.... people say contradictory things about what B12 I need though, and in what form..... Would B12 help my homocysteine to go down? I try to eat plenty of folate daily
I have lived with afib (not the heart valve type) for years. I have also always had a vitamin b deficiency (mother had low vitamin b and would go in for b12 shots) I seen an article about this person that lived with afib for over 10 yrs he was told to have his homocysteine level checked and it was high. His doctor put him on a super B vitamin and he no longer has afib. I am looking for a good vitamin (super b) I can take to see if this helps me. I don’t eat a lot of meats or veggies currently because I have a hiatal hernia and umbilical hernia. Also I am an insulin diabetic (controlled) Can you suggest a vitamin which has everything I need in it ? My cardiologist and family doctor did not want me to have this test when I requested it. Some doctors rather not help you. But I paid for the test myself and my homocysteine level is 33 so this is very high. Any advice I would appreciate. Thank you
I have also had high Homocysteine & using Dr Ben Lynch’s formula- HomocysteX (from Seeking Health) my # is now 9.3……considered in the “normal” range …….really needs to be 7.0.
This doctor is addressing a question that no-one knows the answer to. We don't know whether reducing homocysteine reduces risk of disease: we don't know if raised homocysteine following consumption of protein sources rich in methionine is a worry. We can only answer the question with speculation, opinion, judgement, prejudice, assumption - i.e. non-fact. We crave these non-facts to reassure our uncertainties but uncertainty is the real fact, not the reassurance we crave. Seeing this is clarity.
Not for me, I did not have high levels even before going keto, but going carnivore and consuming meat after being vegetarian for decades has only lowered it.
Great video on Homocysteine! I’m vegetarian and my trying TMG as you mentioned. This is concise video that really describes the issue well. Great teaching style.
Dr it wasn’t too complex, it was very approachable, but you didn’t address an important issue about the effects of low homocysteine on cardiovascular health. Does it also effect blood pressure?
I was diagnosed with homocysteine at the same time being diagnosed with AGS meaning I can no longer eat red meat, How will this affect me mainly being on a vegan diet?
Hi, I have been consuming for several months whey protein to supplement my protein ingestion. I eat low carb or medium to be honest (love veggies) with good amount of Protein (fish, meat, eggs, cheese, yogurt). My last to blood analysis reflected high homocysteine (12 and 16) but think my B12, B6 and acid folic is covered with nutrition. I am wondering if maybe the whey protein (with content in methionine) is too much bfor the body to handle (I respect the dose of 20 gr of whey per meal, 3 meals per day) and asking if maybe supplementing with B2 could solve the problem or changing to BCCAs without methionine. Any suggestions? Great videos anyway All are very interesting Thanks
Got bloodwork yesterday. My homocysteine up sharply from 14 to 26 in six months. I was deeply fasted for the blood draw, but drank a lot of black coffee. I think that drove the number up.

How about low thyroid hormone levels

I can’t find anything on this!! Have you?

Liver contains b6, b12 and folate. I'm starting on raw liver to bring homocysteine levels down.
For how long ?

You need methylfolate, not folic acid
Thank you for explaining this.
