For those commenting that the composers of this song are German, here’s a fact about The United States of America’s National Anthem, The Star Spangled Banner. The lyrics are written by Francis Scott Key, an American attorney trying to get the British to release American prisoners during the War of 1812. The British were attacking Ft Henry with hopes of knocking down the American flag. Many were killed keeping in place, and when one was killed, another soldier took his place. The British, from their many ships, tried all night, but the Americans held the pole in place so it could not be knocked down. That’s what the lyrics are all about. Now…the melody is from a Britiain….popular English drinking song called “To Anacreon in Heaven.” Written around 1775 by John Stafford Smith, the song honored the ancient Greek poet Anacreon, a lover of wine. My point is the Scottish can love a melody from another country.

So well written so well played.But we cannot assess its impact on the human psyche.It is up to the experts to fathom if this piece of music succeeds in enhancing human happiness level.
It sure enhances my happiness ,why the hell can it not do that , oh maybe your surname and heritage has a problem with it .But i can assure it does make my Scottish heritage comes alive, and i certainly know it was composed by two Germans , love it even more for giving such a beautiful tune that all the Scots love .
