The Secret Origins of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe - Part 1 of 2

  • The FIRST and still the ONLY show in which a Sword was used as a conduit in order to channel the power to effect the Hero's transformation against the backdrop of both Castle Greyskull and a remarkable musical soundtrack. Absolutely Brilliant!!!
    Each episode starting with Prince Adam introducing himself and stating his mission I found to be smart and fantastic and still consider it to be the best cartoon introduction of all time and quite fitting as I consider He-Man to be the BEST CARTOON OF ALL TIME!!!
    Also, I found the unique storylines and moral tidbits at the end of each episode very infleuncial to my personal character development as a child!
    Apart from FILMATION this has never been done and I just want to say a big THANK YOU to Lou Scheimer and production crew for caring about what the children viewed on television back then.
    As we see, what the children view on television today is a completely different story.

    This is the kind of thing missing from children's TV today. Teaching moral values. If they thought that cartoons were violent a generation ago, how are they not screaming today? Many said this was the "whining decade" of cartoons. I beg to differ. I'm a child of the 80s, & I learned a lot of good lessons from these shows. You want your kids growing up in the South Park or Beavis & Butthead world? That's your choice. I'll show my kids the shows I grew up with, because they taught values.

    Thank goodness Netflix can't touch the 1983-85 Filmation version of He-Man! All animation today seem to have the insane yearning to "go dark" thereby leading highly impressionable kids on the wrong path. Lou Scheimer would surely turn in his grave if he knew what "Nerdflix" did to the latest reprisal of He-man!

    With all the reboots in Hollywood and there never was a right He-Man Movie its insane.....
    But its important that it has the Filmation Cartoon feel in the right way .... its the only reason why MotU was so sucessful ....
    if u do it right, this could be a great hollywood movie series with at least 4 episodes.... 1. He-Man vs. Skeletor, 2. He-Man vs. Hordak & Skeletor, 3. He-Man vs. Snake Men, Hordak gone to a different dimention and Skeletor out cold for the moment, 4. He-Man & She-Ra vs. Skeltor & Hordak .... not to mention the Spin offs... Orgins of Skeletor, Grayscull, Evil Lynn, Sorceress....

    9:18 I think you kind of missed the mark on a crossover episode with She-Ra when you see Hordak steal Horde primes spaceship and fight over it with Skeletor, and then at the end you have She-Ra and He-Man discuss how to tell somebody when your body's been touched in appropriately. That's kind of a very really loose connection to the main plot of that story lol

    i grew up with the toys and the fantastic mini comics attached to it specially the early ones from 82 to 83 marvelously illustrated by Alfredo Alcala, was so desappointed when the animated series came out, with a complete new story and a different visual identity, wasn't bad but it clearly hadn't the same mystical dark atmosphere of the first minicomics, maybe too mature to be adapted

  • @noahhenson1669
    @noahhenson1669 6 лет назад +3

    Hmmm. No mention of the mini-comics that came with the figures starting in 1981, which the show writers both ignored and drew from to create the series.

    • @noahhenson1669
      @noahhenson1669 6 лет назад

      Popactor, the cartoon producers looked at the mini-comics while developing the show, and took some core concepts from it, such as Skeletor forever trying to seize Castle Grayskull. Obviously the Mattel toys came first from a production standpoint.

Plus ton's of early anime - the 70's was FULL of action oriented 'toons. don't get me wrong, He-Man was awesome!

      Prince Adam well, this maybe true, but blackstar's sword did give him powers beyond that of what he had without it.
      again it's all a rip from the carter of mars stories

      Never knew that about the John Carter stuff (having a sword that gave him powers/conduit for his powers)...guess I better take another look :)

      the john carter reference was made due to the story ripoff being a space adventure with sword play(Sword+Planet story) which the John Carter Of Mars books originated that kind of story..... not soo much with the magic, but with the high tech weapons yet they still delve into a sword fight regularly

    '80s parents loved to complain about stuff they had never watched. I remember this happening with He-Man, and not understanding because it wasn't really violent. Then the same thing happened with Power Rangers.
    Yes, that is correct... The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, one of the single most goofiest television programs to ever exist was attacked for its mature content...
    Somewhere around 2000-2005, People started pulling their heads out of their asses.

    I remember way back in high school reading some of those articles written by those children watchdog groups who called He-Man violent and chauvinistic, just because there were actual battles and a few scenes involved men rescuing damsels in distress. Those problem-puking hippie idiots should have actually tried watching the show and just keeping their stupid traps shut.

      They weren't hippies... the opposite. The "Children's Television Action Network" (or whatever the hell they called themselves) were a bunch of right-wingers, as I recall.

      @@eightiesgirl100 You are correct. There were basically a bunch of crazy, evangelical moms on a rampage.

    "...and still the ONLY show in which a Sword was used as a conduit in order to channel the power to effect the Hero's transformation..." ...and what about Thundercats? :-p
    ...okay, the hero (Lion-O) don´t transformate, only the sword does, but still. The Sword Of Omen itself is very powerful.
