My New G87 M2 Is Already Broken And BMW Doesn't Want To Fix it

- My BMW G87 M2 is the last car I expected to have issues, especially at only 3800 miles! As much as I wanted to try fix this issue myself, I figured I'd take advanatage of the BMW warranty. Sadly that did not work out as planned.

Let me address a very common comment: "Why did you mod the car before taking it in to BMW?" The issue was not as harsh before and I thought bedding in the brakes / braking hard would fix it. Sadly it was only a temporary solution and it would come back. It progressively got worse overtime right in the middle of me modding the car. Didn't think adding some light cosmetic modifications would stop me from getting warranty work done, especially on something that may be totally unrelated to what I installed. Anyways, lesson learned and I hope this video ends up being educational for those that own or are looking to purchase new cars. Regardless if it's BMW or us at our shop, we are going to get the M2 fixed, and I'll you guys. Much love ❤
I would love to be on your side I have watched so much of your content but the guys at BMW could lose their jobs if they give out a warranty claim to someone who wasn't under complete OEM equipment.
Adjustable suspension isn't a light modification, and I can see BMW's point of view. I do wish you a speedy resolve.
@@biggrizzley7847 exactly! Such claims go back to and are charged to the manufacturer who provided them to BMW. Those claims are then analyzed between both to settle them. Contractual agreements would free the manufacturer from liability if the cars were not under specs the designs were tested.
People remove their down pipes and even remove their catch cans to not give the dealer any reason to deny warranty. There shouldn’t be any reason to complain if the dealer deny service. Removing suspension shouldn’t be a big of a deal to do either.
@@Evil_Gianniexactly I had to take off my downpipe before getting it serviced, not a huge problem
Exhibit A as to why you don't modify a brand new car with any expectation the warranty will be fulfilled by the dealer. This is why people modify used cars without warranties.
They fixed my stage 2 M5 didn even ask questions. Gotta tip your service advisor build a good relationship.
duh but this dude is a content creator he has to mod it
Warranty is only voided if the cause of the part failure is due to the modification. “You’re warranty won’t be voided if you install suspension stuff and your ac compressor needs replacement” your warranty will be voided if “ you tune your car and the turbo blows up”
My 2019 JCW is tuned and modded and as long as the issue isn’t related to a mod, my Mini service department has honored warranty work.
100% Agree, but before taking it to them I would striped it back to stock, they cant say shit then.
It's an abs sensor. I had a similar problem on one of my vehicles, and It went away after I replaced the ABS sensor. To test this, pull the ABS fuse and test drive it. Hope this helps.
It could be, one wheel giving false reading thus triggering abs. Had this happen on one of my cars also. Good guess!
Happened to me yesterday, on my 135i ABS light came on. I assumed it was a bad sensor. Though this noise didn't happen again. Checked air in my tyres all tyres lost a lot of air. I probably went through a pothole hard or something. No punctures, I just filled air and drove the car and the light went off.
120 dollar sensor lol, 7hrs at bmw taking all that crap off and more time, I'm putting my chips on the abs as well
It’s just a sensor ( abs)
Easy fix 😉
Very plausible! Hope he also checks this

It's difficult to complain. Modifying any car will typically void the warranty.
I was gonna say haha.
Foo made a whole video about how much of a bitch he is 🤣🤣 take off the mods if you want to go through warranty common sense
Not if the right lawyer is involved it won't... When you send them a bill for uninstallation of a bunch of parts that were unrelated to the repair/resolution of the issue plus a bill for the attorney's time they'll change their tune real quick.
It shouldn't. They have to prove your mods caused the problems which is very hard!. They just say they do to get you not to go further and try the legal process.
nah they wont bmw got lawyers too and have video proof he had after market parts. Lawyers arent scary to big brands unless they have 0 proof. Doesn't matter if it was the issue or not, theres no way to prove that the after market stuff didnt cause the noise even tho he said it was there before he installed them. Now if he has video proof of the noise before the after market parts were installed then thats something but doesnt guarantee a W in court. @@AJUSA1
Rule #1 never take your car to dealer for warranty with mods, unless you established a relationship with them and they don’t care. Hope m2 gets sorted bro
Are you able to untune a car, and them not see?

dealers will find any reason to try to void the warranty nowadays it seems: "oh you installed a new spoiler? thats definitely the reason the engine blew up!" sucks that its the new reality that any mods may void the warranty in situations where it really shouldn't.
At this point, this has become personal. I would put the whole thing back to stock then nag and bother them to fix the issue no matter what.
This!!! I mean c'mon, I get it, I used to be a tech, I understand the procedures but I've also been on the other side as a customer with a warranty issue. Some techs know damn well that one thing has nothing to do with the other, I say some because there ARE those techs who "don't get it" or just don't want to bother so they push the "put it back to stock...." theme. You have a warranty for a reason bro, I know you're thinking "eff it, I'll fix it myself..." but just on principle, you NEED to make THEM fix it. Looking forward to the update and hopefully a warranteed repair. Good luck man!
Yep when they say factory spec I would've jus did it all in one trip instead of one by one. Dropped it off grabbed a loaner and pick up when ready simple
😢 turn on the radio always fixed my problems
Until the engine blows, and then the radio does nothing to help.
BMW service department is always a treat. When I got my 2018 F80 with the carbon ceramic brakes (dealer installed) they called me back because they found brake fluid on the floor of the delivery bay. They gave me a bunch of gift shop goodies to compensate for them almost killing me.
amazing content keep it up dude
Thats why its always better to buy a car 1-2 years newer since all the issues are usually fixed by then. Pretty dumb how they didnt wana work on the car cause all u did was cosmetics and stuff its not like u tuned it or anything crazy
Exactly! If I were him just go to another dealership
Clearly says on the warranty not to tune or change
Had this (or similar) issue on my e92, it was the ABS sensor, no error codes till one day it went mental when coming to stop from 60MPH, front wheels locked up a bit and then I saw the error.
The symptoms were exactly the same as this, it was always the final bit of stopping where you would get the vibration.
I have been a subscriber since day one keep it up bro
I had a similar issue with my 2016-2017 accord v6 coupe. The car would make similar noise only coming to a stop. Turns out the “continental” tires that came with the touring option 19” rims, the combination of the rim/tire made a “beading” issue, and the tire would literally skip on the rim coming to a stop… doesn’t sound exactly like yours but it was such a headache to pin point. Hope you can get it figured out
This sounds like an ABS Wheel Sensor Issue, I had a hella similar feeling and issue when breaking at low speeds. Id check the Wheel Speed Sensors first before anything, probably the cheapest part too
Some say BMW is the ultimate maintenance machine. Thought it breaks after warranty. But it breaks before that and they don’t want to fix it. Unbelievable.
Had a similar issue on my g80. Go fast and use moderate breaking 3 times in a row. Never came back since. I changed my pads for break dust reasons and it’s even better now
I have a 23 g80 comp, 3200 miles. The other day I felt something similar in my car coming to a stop, it happened twice same day. I didn't think much of it as i haven't felt it again, but now that i seen this video its exactly what i felt in my car. Im willing to bet its the pads 100%.
Cool mod bro. Keep it up
Sucks, I had issues with my G80 when I picked it up and took off mods also so they can fix it. It is a pain but you got to do what you got to do.
first batch is always the "beta" cars, always best to wait a year or 2 so they can work out the kinks

@@erickalvarez6666exactly. He basically is a problem. He and so many content creators, are single-handedly ruining our economy, all for “views”…
Same powertrain as the s58 m3/m4 that's been out a couple of years already
But sometimes issues persist on future model years too. Though I agree first model years always have kinks
There's nothing new on m2, it's basically a smaller m4 that came out 2 years ago.
I am nearby. Bought my 18 340i from them used. Where do you have work done other than dealer?
This is by far the best bmw channel on yt
fat from it
Had something similar on my f82 m4. I replaced the rotors and pads and my issue went away. But my steering wheel did shake during my braking.
The apparent detail I found online is that bmw started to use softer material on the pads which end up imprinting the rotors which then cause vibration. Apparently the new pad material they use is just awful and if you let them heat up enough and are holding the brakes just tends to ruin the rotors.
Ever since I swapped to ds2500 pads my oem rotors have been fine.
Hey are the brake caliper bolts tight enough?
I know my 135i is ancient. But I got that exact same noise yesterday. Except ABS light came on. I definitely think its brake related.
Have you checked if "Hill Decent" is turned on? it sounds like the ABS pump is pulsing.
I see where the your service advisor is coming from, BMW hates to touch Aftermarket cause they think every aftermarket item is "shit" so render it out of warranty. But im glad that he told you and is willing to help at least in OEM form
Next time you put spacers on your vehicle I recommend you use hub centric spacers and have them torqued to manufacturers setting - this will illuminate any problems
Wait did you change the hardware also back to stock???
You pull the ABS fuse yet and test?
I always put everything back to stock before doing any warranty work at the dealership. I don't want them to ever have any record of any of my mods, tunes, etc. Aftermarket intakes, brakes, braces, etc, take it off. LED bulbs, bimmertech retrofits, remove or disconnect. They will even find a way to say an aftermarket spoiler puts too much down force on the car to wear out your suspension. I'm surprised this service advisor is letting you demod and bring it back (hint, hint). Usually once they see the mod its game over, it is in the system. The dealer has to submit a "puma" case then have to jump through hoops and waste time waiting for authorization to carry work out on your vehicle.
I had the same vibration feel and noise on my 2023 m3 at low speed stops. Replaced the brake pads and went away. The OEM pads were breaking apart at 2k miles.
The BMW M cars are already highly tuned in multiple ways. Just like the Mercedes AMG and Audi RS series cars. None of those makes are gonna take kindly to owners who mod the platforms while still under warranty. You've given BMW a reason not to fix your issue. Of course it's a brake pad and/or rotor issue.
I have a 2021 m340i and it is st😢ck, due to this issue you are describing. With that said I still have to fight for every warranty repair. The service teams are difficult to deal with, they are polite and professional but always resistant to making any covered repair. They are happy to sell me tires and an alignment every time i start the car or drive within 5 miles of the shop.
Not sure if the service and warranty is better with other brands but i have left the shop a few time thinking I’m done with the brand. Then I hit the round bouts and forget about the upselling and staunch refusal to repair.
Was the car driven hard with hard braking and left to sit for awhile? If so, the brake pad material accumulates on the rotor and makes a “chatter noise”. I had this happen to my F80 M3 once. I thought something was really wrong or possibly broken. All I had to do is some hard braking. from 60 mph and “remove” the old pad material. Hope you are able to resolve the issue.
Hard braking usually fixes a lot of brake complaints.
I switched out my front strut mounts on my older RS3 and it had some wild issues not being seated properly.
Well first thing with warranty is they always state any modification would void it. But my question is why did you mod it if you knew there was an issue at hand. Why not handle it and then mod it.
I know pad and rotor materials can make a lot of "issues." But...
The sound it is making sounds like ABS engaging. Try pulling the ABS fuse and see if it changes. Wheel speed sensors, anything that would tell the car it has stopped. Transmission tuning could be off, or receiving bad data. Etc.
Nice video bro
Seems like abs sensors even if they haven’t thrown a code. I would try replace those. My e90 brakes were acting up when the sensors went bad.
Y did you not take the spaces off before you went to the dealer?
I mean kudos for following the process, it's painful and bureaucratic...even when it costs BMW more money at the end of the day than it actually saves them. I think you've covered it already...having a front end noise and vibration like that will put any tweaks/modifications to anything touching the front-end into question, since 'they're all related' and could be 'suspect to contribute towards the problem'.
I have a hard enough time convincing my dealer the rear M Brake Clips either fell off or never came installed on my car as it should have been...they finally just had to look at another car and realized they were wrong. They could have also looked at the spec but that's too hard. Again not really their fault with all the models and bs customers they generally deal with, but defaulting to not believing the customer is not great either.
Hope you get this sorted.
I say you try re-bedding the pads and see if that scrubs things off and makes anything better
bro i feel for you and the brake pads are about the worst feature on my 2024 m4 when you spend near 100k and it sounds like a tractor trailer stopping at every light. I'm about to buy new pads myself hope your rotors aren't warped also.
Even with my car being completely factory, I now have to normally fight with the service department every time I take it in. It’s quite annoying because before normally they would just do the work without fighting me on it.
That is most likely....wait for it.
Your calipers are loose and rest on your disc (rotors).
Just make sure the bolts behind the calipers are not missing or loosen them up pull the calipers forward and tighten the bolts/screws that hold the calipers. Most likely your rotors are damaged on top.
Does the same when in neutral and just using the brake pedal, no clutch?
Have you used tyre spray to make the tyres shiny? This usually sticks the pads to the rotors
It happened to my f30. Go powerwash and clean the wheels and rotors + calipers really good, hopefully its gonna fix it😅
If that doesn’t solve it, change the pads only! They might have lost their properties from all that rust.
Last one would be abs sensor, but that should be popping errors
be sure to let them cool first. NEVER WASH HOT ROTORS
Coming from my dealership background. You should have just changed the pad yourself. Since you knew what it was and saved you a whole lot of time and headaches, thanks.
Why does your transmission look like its not shifting based off the display?
Once it was confirmed the issue is the brakes, I would get EBC slotted rotors and Red Stuff pads, if they already have those in their inventory. Amazing upgrade!!
Red stuff pads are garbage.
@@cammgt3rs370 Red stuff are inferior to the OEM BMW M pads.
why are they garbage
@@cammgt3rs370
I disagree with the springs and the strut tower brace, they shouldnt have voided your warranty for that as its unrelated. However, the studs and wheel spacer kit is a different story, idk what brand you bought or the quality, but i will say this about them, ive seen wheel spacers cause an out of spec wheel runout, you dont really feel it, and it has to be checked with a dial indicator, and ive seen this problem cause warped rotors, everytime ive out a set on, install the spacer, studs and then use lugnuts or other bolts and tighten then to spec with the wheel off. Then i check the runout and if its out of spec i machine the spacer
I have my first BMW 328i I would love to add your factory wheels to mine . Anyway you would raffle them off or anything
As a former bmw technician this is standard procedure.
We need the car factory standard to be approved for warranty, we also need to rule out modifications as cause and prove to bmw warranty, regardless of when the issue began unless reported official complaint previous to mods. If we got audited and bmw found out there were mods then the dealership would be fined for it.
Everyone is just following procedure and doing their jobs, which the technicians time wouldn't be covered unless approved.
It may just be a brake pad (I've seen this on f90s) but if it isn't the dealer pays for the parts and the tech loses his time.
My M3 makes the same sounds after parked for two weeks…
What is surprising though is the fact that you modified the car after hearing the sound, weren’t you concerned about your warranty…
Changing the brakes will probably be the best option ‼️💯
I’ve had two X5 M’s since 2012. Both had engines rebuilt multiple times. Brakes weee an issue on both as well. Feel your pain.
To everyone’s point, why did you not return your car to stock before brining to BMW. I had no mods with my M’s.
Checked the oil ?
My 2009 bmw 528i with almost 260k has no issues beside the airbag light and check engine lite for a bad ecu
I thought they would completely void warranty Wow! Makes me want to mod my m440i
I haven’t read all the comments so maybe it was mentioned but you need to look up the Magnuson-Moss Warranty act. It prevents car companies from voiding a warranty based just on aftermarket parts. They have to prove the part contributed to the failure.
Check your brake pads, or replace them and make sure to break them in properly.
That’s why didn’t modify my 2012 BMW 650i XDrive. I know warranty will find every excuse not to fix issues . I paid 3k for warranty but they end up paying 12k in repairs 😅. So yeah they will not be quick to payout if they can avoid it .
Every time I'm scrolling and see your video thumbnails its always about a broken BMW. I'll stay away from BMW but ty for the content.
I'm surprised that they were trying to work with you if you put the original parts back on. Some companies would of been like nope you voided your warranty with aftermarket parts your problem now
Sorry to see you had a bad time. I’m biased as I worked on BMW from E30-E46 and they were a different standard. The build quality for me just isn’t the same on the new models.
Tldr , if youre gonna buy an M car , keep it oem for like a year 😂

Hey bro, on your video you mention getting new rims for the M2. Are you selling the ones you’ve got on it atm?
Nah
@@VehicleVirals sorry mate, thought you might need the money to fix the Beemer😅
That is 100% pads and possibly rotors, its a shame that BMW over the years has gotten more and more strict with what they want to work on. I'd get a set of OWM ceramic pads and call it a day. Make sure the dealer noted your issue so its there going forward in the system and also if pads do fix the issue you can let BMW know and if they get enough people with the issue will start a TSB for future cars so they dont have to waste their time like you have going back and forth.
I mean atleast they give you the options to return it to stock and fix it via warranty
I bought a very low mile m6 specifically so I COULD tune it. Dealer warranty isnt worth the 75 GRAND I saved over sticker. 16k miles, still pretty fresh. DME tune to 735/712, no dealer hassle.
Measure your rotors to make sure the have the equal thickness all around and that they spin straight (not warped). Even though, the problem may of been fixed, or gone away, the problem may return once the new brake pads get worn out. Let us know once you hit 3800 miles again.
I took my car to bmw for an alignment they said they couldn’t give me one because of my aftermarket bigboost kit. I don’t understand what my turbo setup has to do with my alignment
I have the same car. This is why I am terrified to ever mod new cars. Particularly ones that I lease.
So i used to work for bmw, and i had people bring in their car with aftermarket parts, and if you told me early, I would not put it on the computer. As long as it wasn't the problem, i would fix it. Also, some dealer ships don't want to do the work under warranty because they don't make as much money as if they charged you for the work. The best thing is try to talk to one of the technicians. that so you can request him to work on your car because it will help you in the long term when you start adding aftermarket parts to your car.
Come up to Gainesville BMW. Their service shop is great.
Is there a follow up to this?
Yeah. Will go live early next week
Did you stop the car in manual mode at 5th gear?
Manual mode? The car is manual 😂. I clutched in.
Sorry that you're having issues with the M2 brother. I would say try changing the break pads at the very least to see if that fixes it. Also, I wanted to ask your opinion on the reliability of a M340i with about 30k miles... Should I buy it and what should be a good price for it?
25-27k
@@startingtech3900let me know where I can find one for that price 😅
I bought an m340i x for $50k with 12k miles as my daily, great car super nice handling. You won' regret the purchase. ive had it for 3 months and zero issues. launch control is off the hook, i did a small tune and added a little more power with the MPE for comfort driving and let me tell you that B58 is no joke. My weekend car is a 2021 M3.
Honestly my local dealer wouldnt even have been that chill with me.
Ahh, that BMW life strikes again
Sounds like crank damper or motor mounts
It looks like your ABS is activating, that much is clear. It could be a bad ABS sensor or bad brake pads activating those sensors. I would first change your pads with an upgrade so you don't feel like you're wasting money if it turns out it isn't the right solution. If that doesn't work then you can test the Ohm range of the sensors against the manufacturer specs next. If one of them is out of spec then you've found your issue. If that isn't the culprit then it must be the actuator, in that case it must be warranty because that box cost a lot of money, enough to warrant turning the car back to stock and then reversing the process after the dealer visit.
Should have sold it like I told you... good luck man
I believe it’s transmission happens to me with my mustang did the same thing
You should have taken that car back as close to factory as possible ‼️💯
I see it from both ends. Now, having to pay someone to return your car to stock would have been a determining factor on just throwing new brakes at it out of pocket. The issue that dealers face, especially the techs is that IF they work on a modified vehicle, there is a chance that A. they can get hurt due to a bad install, part quality, B. damage the part or other components in the process of inspection/R&R or C. spend all of this time/resources to find out that the aftermarket part was the sole cause of the issue and they aren't getting reimbursed for their time : all = angry customer. I wonder if when the tech was talking about pre-load he wasn't talking much about the strut brace but the other suspension components when changing out the struts, lowering the vehicle. There are about 3 components that NEED to be loosened and torqued properly while the car is sitting at ride height for the front wheels. Pre-loading said bushings not only changes how the car responds to movement/bumps but also can greatly wear them away when no set correctly. I've lowered many of my own vehicles and only learned about proper pre-load requirements recently.
Tomorrow you have broken engine mount. This is common. If the motor vehicle is not jacked up in the proper way, and I would start there to see if they’re not ripped, including the mount underneath. The gearbox is pushes the whole of the engine forward and give these incredible vibrations.
I just got my car three days ago i will be looking out for such issue 🤔
Hello friend César from Brazil, in my opinion are the same problem of all M cars, the brake Disc.
I know most people are just gonna complain about it, but you have to get real man, this is standard procedure. You can mod your cars all you want, but it's standard company policy to refuse service because of that. It's different with some dealerships, specially if you have friends that work there, but theres a reason they turn you away because of it. The general manager will have to answer to the company's loss because of repairs like that, so they have to jump through many hoops to get repairs done on modded cars, and it could end up negatively affecting them and their employees.
I had a friend that worked at a dealership, and because of that I was able to get my heavily modded Civic Si to get repaired. But to get it done I had to revert my car to stock. And they replaced two cylinders, a head gasket, and the turbo manifold for free (~12K worth of work) even though the damage was done by the mods. They were super helpful about it, but you have to work with them. If you try and play hard with them, they're not gonna do anything for you.
It could be the EPB brake shoes
Hey atleast it's content...
I for one enjoy these videos.
It’s brake chatter! High performance brakes need to be stopped aggressively every now and again to keep the Pad build up that forms on the rotors! You mentioned that you had not done any hard stops or anything! You need to do some hard stops! Good luck Sir!

That would only temporarily fix the issue. It's not my first M car. This is not normal.
@@VehicleViralsthis is definitely related to your pads, try replacing them see what happens
@@VehicleVirals my point is it is the issue! You can fix it how you choose! All cars are different and it’s possible that the brake components don’t match properly even if they are factory! It is a new platform
Brosef. Why would you mod the suspension etc if you think you might have a problem in that area? Warranty or not fix it first. I mean I get that you gotta put out content but I guess this is content too lol
