The specs you ended up at was one of the smaller stores, a few miles away up the street from the side door is a much larger store with a better selection.
I normally avoid Texas whiskey but you guys are giving me second thoughts. I love the honest description and review. I haven't had any toddlers in decades so I am more than good with the jokes. And the tacos and enchiladas! Thanks for sharing. Love the bourbon van! It's goes to even cooler places than the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine
We're definitely excited about that bottle. It was fun to shop in a different part of the country and find so many whiskeys that we've never seen before.
So I guess Mavis was like, "Hey we all sleep in this van together" time to give Phil a bath? :) I snagged one of those Hooten Young bottles as well after the advent. Don't regret it at all :) I guess I need to go make some lunch...you got my belly growling. After a look at all that amazing food, I am sure whatever I come up with will just be disappointing ;) Cheers!
Dickel for $18 - you passed that IQ test! I'm heading to HOU next week and Stryker is on my list - that is sooooo delicious and my bottle only has a few sips left. And maybe a few other TX gems at (indeed) Specs! Found some great buys but each store is very different. Last time the Waco store had 5-6 bottles of JD BP Rye for $60, and stores in HOU have great scotch selections. Safe driving y'all and cheers! ...and yeah, our 20lb Maine Coon cat loves my hair too...
Bruichladdich 12 Cask Strength special editions are something you should look into if you like the regular bottle. Nikka From the Barrel by the way is not exactly the whole story as "Japanese". It's world whiskey as blended from both Japan and Scotland (Ben Nevis) components.
The Bruichladdich 12 Cask Strength has been high on my "need to find" list as the regular might be my favorite Scotch to date. Still kinda a noob with Scotch.
@@TheBourbonVan There are a number of Specs around Houston I have been in, some are smaller some are every bit as large as the larger Total Wine stores with a better "local" selection, especially on things like Tequila and Texas whiskey. If you are familiar with MGM in the Midwest, they are similar, some smaller some larger.
You guys should missed the mark, El Paso is a hidden gem for bourbon. Side door has JD10, KC12 less than $70, OF SIB SP. Total Wine had Belle Meade Reserve $46, Peerless Double Oak Rye $116. SPECs is great but it’s rotational for super allocated - lucky seven is everywhere here. The hole in the walls here gets good stuff. Juanitos does raffles every last Saturday. If you guys crews back write and I’ll help you out.
The cat creeping in the window is pure gold 😂

The official Bourbon Van stance on toddlers: yeah, that’s about enough.
😅
L&J by the graveyard is the BEST!
If you are ever back this way, go to Juanita’s Liquor Store. Best bourbon and tequila selection in the area. Happy you enjoyed your stay in El Paso.

I recently picked up the Hooten & Young 12yr. American whisky and really enjoy it. When I have the budget and see it, I'm getting the 15yr.

Nice bottles! I have a Lucky 7 toasted and it’s really nice. Halfway through it and it’s even better! Cheers!

Spec's have dozens of stores all over Texas, I go too several in the Dallas area. Great Scotch and Bourbon selection and member prices.
Congrats on the Lucky 7! I want to find one.
I’d like to hear Mavis’s tasting notes on Phil’s hair. 😂
“Gross.”

Great vid again guys! The Dickel 15 year is really good as well. The Lucky Seven is delicious you are gonna love it.
Just think a short 8+hr drive and we could have shared some drinks in Dallas.
Look up Smokin Joe’s pit bbq in El Paso!
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎
When you went for your run, did you have anyone in green chasing you?

From what I hear, Spec’s is the Texas version of Binny’s?
Maybe we went to the wrong Spec's, but the Binny's we've been to have way bigger and better selections.
@@TheBourbonVan That's disappointing. I know the Whiskey Vault guys talk about Spec's all the time, but I haven't seen one myself.

The Spec’s on Smith Street in Downtown Houston is awesome
35 month whiskey. You would think they would have just left it in the barrel for one more month so they can just age state it at 3 years.
