Nightwish is a Finnish band that started in 1996. The group was the first metal band to have a lyrical singer as their main vocalist. Tarja's operatic vocals helped create the band's identity and were the group's main differentiator in the past. Nightwish has 9 studio albums, the first 5 were recorded with Tarja.
The second vocalist is Anette, who recorded 2 albums, and the current singer is Floor, who has also recorded two albums so far. The three vocalists have completely different voices and styles, but each one is good in its own way. Because of the different vocalists, if you want to know the band's catalog, it would be good explore the different eras. The five albums with Tarja are influenced by Gothic metal, power metal, symphonic music and folk music. Since Anette, the band has focused on symphonic metal elements and folk music. Tarja left the band in 2005, at a time when RUclips did not yet exist. Most of the videos of Tarja's live performances were posted by fans. Some have good recording quality, but others do not. As for Anette, despite being less old than Tarja, it is more difficult to find good live recordings of her. Regardless, Anette has a better studio skill than live. Floor has been an official member of the group since 2013 and it's easier to find videos of her with better recording quality. Many of them were posted by the band itself. When reacting to Nightwish, it would be good if you heard the versions recorded with the original singers and the current versions with Floor. The same song is quite different depending on who is singing, either because of the different voices and styles, or because of the changes that the group makes to adapt the old songs to the newer singers. I think your interest in knowing the band's studio work is cool. If you limited yourself to just watching live performances, you would end up losing some iconic songs that have no live record, or, when they do, the quality of the recording is horrible. I will suggest two songs in their studio versions. The first is "Beauty of the beast" (yes, it is "OF" the beast), and the second is "Ghost love score". The latter has good live versions with both Tarja and Floor, but in the studio version it is possible to hear the details better (and there are many).

      Rafael
It is quite rare to read a comment with such level of concern for the band itself and it's achievements than just focusing on the lead singers and who sounds better singing this song or that song.
I must admit that I'm a Tarja fan, but I'm a fan of her solo career as much as I am a Nightwish fan, regardless of the Era and the lead singer in each reaction video.

Planet Hell from the same concert (End of an Era live DVD) showed different tone of Tarja's voice.

    Hi there.
If you have already reacted to "Romanticide", you probably realized that you'd already heard Marko singing, cause he sings with Floor on that specific song.
"Phantom of the Opera" is an original production by Andrew Lloyd Webber and he actually went as far as to say that this is his favorite version of the song.
Could I interest you in reacting to a song from Tarja's solo career, as you already know, she was fired from NW in 2005 and she has her own reportoire.
It would be great to see your reaction to "Victim of Ritual" but her live performance in Woodstock 2016.
You can see how she's developed after leaving NW.
Thanks for sharing this with us

Yep, the singing bass player is Marko. Unfortunately, he recently left the world of performing music for a while.

As fantastic as Floor is in her performance with Henk Poort, I prefer Tarja's voice for this song. This particular performance is the best version of this song I've ever heard, whether on Broadway or elsewhere. And Tarja is the strongest soprano that I've heard sing it. Possibly there are better singers who have sung it, I just haven't heard them.

Tarja has operatic music education, but in her solo rock/metal career she singing also not operatic (she has also classical career where she singing full operatic). You shouls react something from her solo career, please react song "Victim of Ritual" live from Woodstock 2016, amazing performance.

Both Tuomas and Tarja says the last 2 Tarja's NW albums were not operatic ones.
Yeah, there are SOME songs that were, or had such moments. But mostly they aren't. They did change her singing style for "Century Child" and "Once" album.

@@tamashii6670 I don't think so. To me her solo career rock album songs singing is very similar to the last two NW albums. She still has the classical vocals singing style in her pop/rock songs.

@@Aurinkohirvi I know that, especially her first albums, but now she singing completely different, of course, always hear her classical/operatic education, in her breath, vibrato etc., but technique is completely different. Great example is listen her album "Ave Maria - En Plein Air", next "Once" by Nightwish and on the end "In The Raw" by her, you have typical classical/operatic vocal - classical vocal - and more pop/rock vocal with classical background.

Tarja is great and she is the original vocalist I grew up with. Love her and love her solo stuff 🤩 Floor is current vocalist and so perfect match with Nightwish with her versatility. And I see my self lucky to have both, because I love Nightwish. And we can not forget Anette either, she is a good vocalist, for sure, and she did her share in NW. Her style just didn't fit so good with NW, imho.
BTW Tarja and Floor are friends 😁

It's sad that this End of an Era 2005 concert was best quality live concert NW did in Tarja's era, because her vocals suffered in the concert, especially towards the end. She had a flu like I'm sure many others sais, and yeah, it did tax her. I always choose another concert if possible, if I suggest a Tarja-era NW song. But this concert songs have most views, so every reaction channel each time picks End of an Era concert song to react. It's not best quality any more though, now there are "remastered" songs which have better quality than End of an Era concert does.

Dude, you have barely stepped on the Nightwish path. There's 5 albums of Tarja's NW career, and yeah this song has lots of operatic elements. Listen something like Nemo or Swanheart or Kuolema Tekee Taitelijan, you'll see Tarja isn't always mouth full open operatic, although her classical vocals are there, just not as operatic.
They've had 3 quite different type female vocalist, Tarja is definately the not main stream type of the singer of the 3. Especially in North America and UK people like more Floor type of vocals, while in East Europe, Mediterranean and Latin America which have more classical singing tradtion than Englsih speaking countries, Tarja is very popular.

The most viewed, both with more than 100M views, Nightwish official music videos are "Amaranth", mellower and "Bye, Bye Beautiful", heavier, (Marko). Both with Anette Olzon (SWE) the 2nd female vocalist of Nightwish. I think as a video production Amaranth is better of those two videos. Making of documentaries available of both videos. I saw the BBB one yesterday, once again.
It is kind of weird that the most popular videos are with Anette, who I think is the least favorite Nightwish vocalist, not that she would have been a bad singer. Her vocals were poppy, thin. Not the best thing with Nightwish. She was at her best in studio, not live. I would say
"Slow Love Slow" Montreux Jazz Festival 2012 is her best live performance with Nightwish. (Jazz Festival??? Yes!) The song is totally different from any other Nightwish songs.
"The Islander" music video is an amazing production, just yesterday I watched Making of The Islander documentary. Anette era song, composed by Marko who also is the main vocalist. The video is excellent, but the live version Tampere 2015 is perfection.
"Nemo" with Tarja is a great official music video.
Official music videos with Floor: "Noise" from the newest Nightwish album 2020, never performed live due to COVID-19. "Elan" and "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" from the 2015 album.
"Making of new album" (Endless Forms Most Beautiful) documentary with about a dozen episodes of 6-7? minutes is very interesting. So is the 2 hour documentary "Please Learn the Setlist in 48 hours." It's about Floor joining the band on a very short notice in the midst of the NightwishAmerican tour. A 16 minute documentary Rock Academy Reunion shows the vulnerable, emotional Floor.

I wouldn't call Anette's vocals thin. She has brighter colour. And she can sound quite girly, young, in some songs. But actually vocalist range videos found Anette sang the lowest notes of the three NW ladies, and she can sing very smokey jazz, like "Slow, Love, Slow" and everyone agrees she sings ballads real nice. So, not a thin voice by any means.
(Sorry edits, I hate leaving typos).

    Cool reaction Mr. Addict...!!!
You may want to check out... Human. :II: Nature... Their latest album. A tour de force in creative musicality, IMHO...
Any song will do, but I recommend a start to finish experience, as all the songs are themed, so to speak...!
    Cheers...!!!
