Established in 1927, Burr Oak was one of the few early Cemeteries focused on the needs of the African American community.
Location: 4400 W 127th St, Alsip, IL 60803
Graves visited: Annie M. Turnbo Malone, Willie James Dixon, Emmett L. Till, and Mamie Till-Mobley.

From the smile on Mamie’s face you can tell that she loved her son. He has a sweet and innocent face.

Thank you Evie, that was outstanding. I enjoy your work. From the young man's sacrifice and his courageous mother we later celebrated the leadership of an African-American President. You taught us a lot today. A moment to appreciate life, and not let death take away from the wisdom shared.

Evie Vargas mine was moving as well. I did some research on the notable people buried there and most of them had great productive lives. The most tragic of course was Emmett Till.
