@@BWP202 Any chance i can get ahold of you some way, I am a looking at a 1981 GMC astro as an Owner operator truck. It's local and a really good deal. Figured I would ask. I'm curious if you might have any old school reputable contacts that can help me on parts. 8v71 / 9spd eaton.
Might be a good idea to treat the wood you don't replace with some type of mold killer. Also it looks like the wiring could be done better. If you're going to fix it up might as well do it right.
My dad wasn't a trucker but when I was 11 he took me to the international Trucking Show in Anaheim CA it was 1979 that's where I saw the original LivLab on a GMC Astro I thought they were really cool I never thought I'd see one again then I found this channel I've always thought the LivLab was a cool sleeper but on that old Pete it really looks good I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the old girl
Hi Lee! Cool story 😎😎🇺🇸🇺🇸 the gmc Astro is still around which is awesome. I have some cool things coming with this truck! Thanks for watching and sharing your story. I love to hear them!
Just try bypassing the air dryer by disconnecting the hoses and hooking them together, if you still got that knocking look at the air governor on top of the compressor it might be sticking and not unloading
I’d get a dehumidifier in there. There’s also some tablets that detailers use for moldy smells. Think they’re called chlorine dioxide tablets. Nice save overall!!
Nice job you dont think to replace the corners with Faberglass for the water near the windows in the upperdeck?regards from Greece ,the engine seems very good condition ❤🦅🇬🇷🇺🇸
Have said for years, all sleepers in long haul trucks should have a bunk, kitchenette, shower and toilet. Impressed they did it in such a small space, how long is the actual sleeper (behind cab)?
@@ThePoconoPete It is a brilliant design, always thought they could use the space above the cab for a bunk. Id be kinda old too climb the ladder every night tho. Those 359s were a great truck as well, liked the layout
Those side windows in there look to be Kenworth Aerodyne units, if they are the tilt out windows are a lot better about not leaking, and better in the rain. I noticed the MT plates, I am a 49er myself.
Certainly looks roomier up there without the carpet & headliner. It’s a blank slate, ready for your personal preference. There is no wrong answer! (except for a waterbed-a waterbed is a wrong answer! 😂)
I'm not sure but I think that air dryer can be rebuilt. I'd contact Bus Grease Monkey, Scott can fill you in on all that if you really want to keep it original.
@@shanonhoweth2659 I’m probably going to take it apart and see what’s going on in there. I put a new filter inside after we bought it, but it may be missing something. Sounds like the filter is knocking back and forth on the housing.

Maybe consider putting the fake leather padding up in the sleeping area instead of carpet everywhere? A lot easier to clean and less smelly in the long run.

Was thinking the same thing. Most likely going to have the button tuck Upholstry redone as well because there's mold on it.
Imagine what it was like going to the dealer and getting it brand new and driving it off the lot. That would have been a truckers dream come true!

Sounds like the unloading valves in the head of the compressor are stuck. Have to pop them out clean and reseal. That should stop your ticking.
If I had to guess, the knocking is bad reed value block on the air compressor. Could be unloads too
I’m going to rebuild the whole air dryer then move to the compressor since it’s an easier rebuild, first.
Watching you remove the carpet from the sleeper, I could almost taste the carpet dust. LoL
