Things I love: - she clearly makes up her song as she goes - saying "you know how it goes" in the middle of the song she came up with - the smile during the song as she thinks of a rhyme - the pause in horror after "in the rain" - her teaching me what a pith helmet is - the ever-growing enthusiasm until she's nearly hyperventilating at the end - the very unusual pant-gasping she thinks will not deprive her of oxygen - the pause before she says "the brain", indicating oxygen is not in fact going to the brain - the discovery channel logo popping up partway through - sanpaku eyes - "the combination of both." Stopping and shopping?? This has been living rent free in my head for at least 11 years or however long this has been up. And I still don't know if this is real or fake.
I am fascinated by this. She is borderline manic, but there are flashes of self-awareness in there, so she does know how silly it looks to others. I think the strangeness is also amplified because this footage has gotta be pretty old. A woman that age in the early 80s(?) would have been raised in a very different era.
God, this is that combination of sad, lonely, naive, dim, but sweet that strikes my soul so hard. Walking the mall is probably one of the only times she feels like a person. The rest of the time she probably watches everyone else, wishing she could have some of what they got. Whether it be intelligence, success, friends. I want to curl up in a ball and die, the empathy is suffocating.
I feel you man, she's found something that makes her feel alive and who are we to mock her for it? A lot of us on here only feel half as alive when we're bringing other people down because we've got nothing deep down but she has a pith helmet and a song and she feels like she can be herself and proudly for it.
That's funny you thought that, because I thought nearly the opposite. She's doing a thing she likes, and what more than that does any person do in life?
Gotta give this woman credit for confidence and attempting some amount of exercise. I'll even admit I like to walk a lap or two around the mall before I leave.
Every time I go to the mall, I take my pith helmet, and ride the escalators and sing this song. Hell yeah. Be good to yourself. Then I take out a security guard, and yell out "Long live the Counter Revolution!" and "Four legs good, two legs baaaahhddd!"
Oh honey. I've been there. It's that moment when stress snaps your last brain cell and you're reduced to grinning like a maniac in the hopes that no one notices.
This video needs to be remixed into a horror film trailer. The song she wrote plays in the background, as we see her acts of violence against all the teenyboppers who have the nerve to take the escalator or elevators in place of the stairs.
She's a great patriot! She's supporting a Cathedral of Corporate Consumerism, a wholesomely smoke-free environment! She's practicing preventative medicine, getting in shape and avoiding being a burden on the US no-healthcare system! She's singing and shopping and being happy! She is a model US Citizen. Everyone should be like her, and by the time the Public School System is finished with your kids, everyone will be! XD
"Listen, not a year goes by, not a year, that I don't hear about some escalator accident involving some bastard kid which could have easily been avoided had some parent - I don't care which one - but some parent conditioned him to fear and respect that escalator."
This is a very underappreciated comment. I literally laughed out loud. Yes, I know it's a decade old... but it, and this video, needs more attention and praise 😂
Wasn’t she married to John Wayne Gacey or something? Idk or maybe her family was devoured in front of her by a bunch of cannibals. Maybe she’s just really nervous to be on The Discovery and that’s why she looks like that lady from Requiem For A Dream.
obvs she is being interviewed bc she is actually interesting & has something to say & be passionate about... unlike most ppl lol. sure she is crazy but who cares, it's fun to watch
As psychotic as she may sound to some people, I also walk around malls a lot as a teen. The outside environment in suburbs are so desolate and boring that walking around outside in a suburban neighborhood feels unsafe and not relaxing
I like this lady. Her heart is in the right place, she sings, and she walks.
And people make fun of her.
YOU GO, HAPPY WALKER LADY!
I know right?!
Alx Windsar happy walking GIRL
I love how she goes from proud and smiling to deadpan serious during the course of saying "IT'S A PITH HELMET"
glad someone else noticed I just looked this up after not seeing it for a year just for that part
I love this lady. Sure people might say she's nuts, but man is she ever into what she's into and I actually admire that.
Yea, until she wears your skin as a funny hat.
I want to believe that this is fake, but she sounds so sincere.
Oh it's real. Though, not as scary as some are making it out to be. Just regular old shut-in narcissist with minor schizophrenia.
I don't think it's real. I think she's trying to do an Andy Kaufman-style act.
i want to believe she does an antiagoraphobic act, silly, loud and unapologetic

That's actually just an old song. She just replaced some of the lyrics. It's called The Happy Wanderer.
I am fascinated by this. She is borderline manic, but there are flashes of self-awareness in there, so she does know how silly it looks to others.
I think the strangeness is also amplified because this footage has gotta be pretty old. A woman that age in the early 80s(?) would have been raised in a very different era.
Good analysis.
She reminds me of Andy Kaufman when he was doing his wrestler act. I think it's pretty obvious she's doing a bit.
"Someone looks silly to me therefore they're manic".
looks like it was filmed in the 90s, not the 80s.
God, this is that combination of sad, lonely, naive, dim, but sweet that strikes my soul so hard. Walking the mall is probably one of the only times she feels like a person. Dude shut the fuck up. Just because someone looks silly to you doesn't mean she's dumb, unintelligent, unsuccessful or has no friends.
That's funny you thought that, because I thought nearly the opposite. She's doing a thing she likes, and what more than that does any person do in life?
If you've ever worked an opening shift at a mall you know that every mall walker is exactly like this.
i Walk Hour before close. people have no respect for mall walkers they stare and act like ass.
I NEED to know where this came from. There has to be more behind this.
we may never know
Discovery channel, 1987
I always wondered if she got paid for the 90s house tracks that sampled her.
1:53-2:01 **cue Nothing's "Say Less" here**
Mom?
I've seen this probably 20 times, and it just never gets old. I love her face when she says the Sierra Club walks in the rain. HAHAHA
Gotta give this woman credit for confidence and attempting some amount of exercise. I'll even admit I like to walk a lap or two around the mall before I leave.
I may not know how your song goes, but I love you Happy Walker Girl--KEEP WALKING AND SHOPPING!
Every time I go to the mall, I take my pith helmet, and ride the escalators and sing this song. Hell yeah. Be good to yourself. Then I take out a security guard, and yell out "Long live the Counter Revolution!" and "Four legs good, two legs baaaahhddd!"
Anyone else here because of Nothing?
...she's a brilliant character actor and this is part of her act. It has to be. Please.
Sounds like this would make a great sample for a song ;)
Lol I see what you did there ;) #Fantavision
I now know what a Pith Helmet is.
This is how I learned that.
And Discovery Channel showed this on TV...
think of the children ;~;
I wonder what show
*Presented: A boss cut from Dead Rising*
I could totally see her in dead rising
Killing her grants you increased walk speed.
This seems like it would be a good Kristin Wiig character on SNL.
She actually manages to get crazier as it goes along!
2:23 [Deadpan] IT'S A PITH HELMET.
lartisteautravail I piss myself laughing every single time. My god.
internet goldmine
Oh honey. I've been there. It's that moment when stress snaps your last brain cell and you're reduced to grinning like a maniac in the hopes that no one notices.
okay
The Face of schizophrenia. My prayers are with the poor people she brutally murdered after they stopped filming.
Either she needs help or she is a comedic genius of Kaumanesque proportions.
This is a new level of bat shit crazy
She is. so. ADORABLE.
omg that song, it NEEDS to be my ringtone
*I* am a happy walking woman.
zack B happy walking GIRL
Not woman.. girl
This video needs to be remixed into a horror film trailer. The song she wrote plays in the background, as we see her acts of violence against all the teenyboppers who have the nerve to take the escalator or elevators in place of the stairs.
She’s a rebel!🎉
Look at her walking up the down escalator!
"it really helps me keep in shape"
It's on and on and on and...
Lol, 12 years later I come back to this video one morning
Lol, this stuff is gold :D deserves more views!
I'M NOT CRAZY, YOU'RE CRAZY!
This is definitely a favorite. Future viewings will be glorious.
Truly we are a fallen species
Fallen from the tree millions years ago
*fallen country
no fuckin way the sample thats on a house track has been stuck in my head since 1993
i dont know why but i cant stop watching this. thanks a lot aots
XD
well.... whatever floats your boat. O.o
She should put that song on itunes so mall runners everywhere can have something to listen to.
This woman makes me feel an unspeakable joy.
I love her!
She’s amazing ❤
Thank whoever recorded this off Discovery and who uploaded it.
Mark my words people; this lady will rule the world.
Who is this lady? I gotta know! She's so into this I can't help but admire it some!

She's so lovely ^^
"Listen, not a year goes by, not a year, that I don't hear about some escalator accident involving some bastard kid which could have easily been avoided had some parent - I don't care which one - but some parent conditioned him to fear and respect that escalator."
This is a very underappreciated comment. I literally laughed out loud. Yes, I know it's a decade old... but it, and this video, needs more attention and praise 😂
thank u AOTS!
.......well if mall walking is as good exercise as she says it is then alot of her shopping must be for food. lolz
If I walked up the down escalator, I’d get yelled at.
this needs to become viral.
No but she's so cute though, I don't see her as psycho; she seems like a sweet woman!
at 7 in the morning is the only time when Karen can have a little peace and quiet doing her happy walk in the mall. Falleriiiiii!!! Falleraaaaaa!!!!
...in the rain..... -death face-
i love how she says "this may seem silly"
but i knoe that everyones thinking
"not silly. CRAZY!"
When she took out the helmet my laughing centre exploded... I have never felt so complete
I know right, he worked his magic.
"Your head it's spun I'm not the one" 🎶🎶
She really makes me want to avoid shopping malls more than I already do..
AOTS
I don't think I'm high enough for this right now... lol
well I think she's just a silly person enjoying life. :)
I hate that no one knows who this woman is. If this is acted it’s soooo good!
I saw The Unborn earlier today, and this woman is 430% scarier.
i really wanna find this article she speaks of, i wonder what magazine it's from...
I WALK THE SHOPPING MALLS [crazy eyes]
It's a PITH HELMET! Haha, she looks so offended.
Wasn’t she married to John Wayne Gacey or something? Idk or maybe her family was devoured in front of her by a bunch of cannibals. Maybe she’s just really nervous to be on The Discovery and that’s why she looks like that lady from Requiem For A Dream.
Love this person
dude- there are all kinds of people out there like this.
This is wonderful.
Agree... you can tell the frame changes at times such that there were few takes and editing
obvs she is being interviewed bc she is actually interesting & has something to say & be passionate about... unlike most ppl lol.
sure she is crazy but who cares, it's fun to watch
She right It's not silly it's beyond insanity !
o______o Where has this been all my life.
I'm going to share this with everyone I know!
this is absolutely terrifying...
Wow, she's downright frightening.
she's a regular at the mall walker subreddit
Yes, it was on AOTS.
Say Less - Nothing
LMAO ROFL!!!!!! I have not laughed so hard in a long time!!!
As psychotic as she may sound to some people, I also walk around malls a lot as a teen. The outside environment in suburbs are so desolate and boring that walking around outside in a suburban neighborhood feels unsafe and not relaxing
Badass message for sure
I could see her turning into the "Happy stalker girl"...
