- I'm honestly surprised that this can run on an actual NES (+ a few emulators)!
I didn't beat every level because I'm not use to these physics.

I think it’s meant to be a click, notice how it doesn’t play for every jump when the player is holding.

When I saw that, I thought it would be just an exe game replicating nes style but I was wrong. This is an actual nes rom. Not only that but nes games are made with assembly which is one of the hardest programming language out there. Impressive

It represents the machine code instructions as human readable text where each line represents a machine code instruction, and the assembler translates each line into its binary representation creating the actual program that the target CPU can execute. Because it's machine code represented as text, it changes with the CPU architecture and it is tightly close to the hardware, which means if you write a program in assembly for x86, you can't run it on arm, you have to rewrite the whole program

The parallax scrolling is very impressive
I opened the PPU Viewer in FCEUX and there I saw a bunch of tiles with fast moving patterns which are placed in the nametable to simulate a scrolling background

The bass sounds like something straight out of Super Mario World

It sounds more like the sun soft DPCM bass, which was used in popular games like Gimmick by sunsoft, it was the solution to using the other square channel as the bass, and allowed more musical creativity. I literally just wrote that because I got bored

Update: might also want to fix some of those hitboxes, some of them are bigger than the visuals which won't do.

But I agree, the sound is very loud and the hitboxes seems a bit big, but maybe that’s just how the nes is programmed

i have been watching this closely trying to figure out how they managed to pull of paralax like this
but looking closely i notice everything has a border, and im guessing all the tiles underneath the objects are just constantly shifting as they are being moved on screen
i also love how since everything is always moving, the dithering seemlesely dissapears into another color.
this is the most impressive thing i have seen on the NES! truly using it to the absolute extent of its power, almost looking as if it were on the SNES!

I wonder, are they using a special mapper chip to pull off the background scroll? It seems the background is just tiles with a constantly swapping sprite that scrolls the other way

i literally made a nes series in gd (my user is nevinfan)
This looks like the kind of game you would find on a bootleg plug and play lol
Although, it does look good and high effort.
I put this in my emulator and BOOM thanks i wasn't expecting it to work
if time machines are invented, we need to:
A. secretly give nintendo this after GD was made, and make them release it so that nintendo gets sued-
Or
B. send this to nintendo when they released the NES so that all grandparents or children do not get confused on what GD is, buut the nintendo company has to hide NES GD from the ROBTOP

it could totally run on an actual NES with a very advanced color palette! (Not like the NES has stringent restrictions that would restrict the gameplay of majority of the levels in the game if it just used this color palette. Also doesn't Aesprite have an NES color palette?)
