Never thought I would feel disappointed with a Derwent product. Surprised how flat the 12 pan set looked on the white paper. Much prefer metallics on black paper. Stand out so much more. Thank goodness we can watch u swatch otherwise money would be wasted on not such good products. Is now 2.43am and just finished watching your video. Always look forward to early on a Thurs morn as know u will have posted. Loved your 5 day videos, particularly with the brush pens. Have got some but not really used them yet. Watching u with the red and yellow and how they blended, was really impressed. Definitely shall be trying them out now. Thank u again for a great informative video. Have a good week everyone 💕

I saw on another youtube channel that this kind of color chart “paper” does warp/shrink and curl up after a substantial amount of use. Can’t remember where I saw it though. I use a piece of leftover laminated pastic sheet to put between the paint and the color swatch that comes with it (and my own color swatch on top of that 😂)
But I recommend to leave it open until the paint is dry because they stick to the lid of plastic sheet rather than sticking to the pan itself

I LOVE metallic and pearlescent watercolour SO much! I got the Artist's Loft pan from Michaels awhile back and surprisingly, I LOVE it. This set is considered pearlescent but it's basically the same thing. I'd love to see what you think of them. I usually do not like Artist's Loft stuff so the paints were an awesome surprise!
I personally have Niji (not great) Kuratake (did not like) Artist's Loft (so surprisingly creamy and only cost me $5-8) and I have one hand made one that Iuile added in for free with my absolute favourite holographic sparkle paint EVER! Handmade is by FAR the best, but yeah, I actually put my Artist's Loft ones second! I almost even got a second pan just to make sure I still had it when my first pan ran out, just in case they change the formula. I even used the paint on an acrylic painting I made for my hubs, on top of the acrylic paint itself, ON A CANVAS and it's nearly a year later and the paint looks just as good as the day
I painted it. The watercolour paint is still fully there and i first had the painting tucked away against something else, and the paint didn't rub off, and it has been on our wall ever since. No fading, nothing has fallen off. No flakes dust, nothing! I didn't even put fixative on it as I forgot I had spray on stuff, and i worried my brush on would lift the watercolour. And I didn't paint a small section either, it's around ¾ of the canvas!

If you take the paint out, put a drop of water in the half pan, and then put the cube of paint back in, it will usually stay there. Worked for me.

Doesn’t work for most of the loose pans of the 4 sets of Derwent paint pans I have (pastels, line & wash, charcoal, shade & tone) so everyone trying this, stay cautious!
But I was thinking maybe a drop of gum arabic? Anyone have any thoughts on that?

@@leenb.7936 i only have the high end professional watercolors,(Daniel smith, Schmincke, Qor etc) and I’ve never had a problem. Can’t speak for those you mentioned. Not even sure what they are honestly.

I certainly like the metallic on the black paper better, as I like the more intense pigment color and shine.

Thanks so much for the Derwent review. Seeing how products work before buying can really help. I currently have 2 sets of metallic water colors. A very inexpensive set by Yasutomo that I am happy with for adding a bit of shine to a project. I also have owned the Arteza 24 set for awhile. Unbelievable as is seems, I have not yet swatched them. I think I may be a little afraid of messing them up. :) They are so beautiful in the pans. Fingers crossed they don't disappoint. :)

I know the water brushes are popular but I find them hard to use. I prefer old fashioned tried and true watercolor brushes and your results show why watercolor brushes are so much better. I am also not a fan of Paul Reubens shimmer/metallic set. They are really hard to rewet and I have the 45 half pan set because curiosity got the better of me or maybe my set is defective. Who knows? I agree with you, I don't think I would get these either. The are very muted on screen. Thanks for the review!

I notice most metallic products are shown on black. I only use metallic for accents or doodles because I don't like the streaks.
I would like to ask for for opinions on the best water brush experience. There are so many.

I think crumbs with metallic pencils are just part of the territory due to the mica content makes for a dryer product?

Did you try swatching the pallet with the watercolor brush to see if it picked up more pigment? It might make it a closer comparison with the 6 you swatched with the regular brush.

I wish I’d seen your movie before I bought the products. I’m very disappointed in them. As for the paints, 4 pieces met my expectations for the metallic coating. Three more can be considered to be in order. The rest are beautiful colors, but unfortunately they are not metallic.
Colored pencils just as disappointing. Some crayons can be considered medium soft, but some were really hard (maybe I was unlucky). I would have expected softer crayons.
On black paper metallic shade is ok, but on white paper I don’t see any difference to scholar products.
I can not remember when I was disappointed by the products of this brand so much. In my opinion, they’re not worth their money.
