    Great video Ted. You're very proficient working the deck. You make it look easy.
    It almost defies logic and reason how 2 trawlers on all of Lake Michigan can diminish the Smelt population over an area of 22,394 sq miles. I guess if you are capable of thinking without logic and reason then it's possible.
    Unfortunately only a gifted few are able to think without abstract reasoning. It appears that they both found this video and they both love dipping.
    I'll bet those two bastards dipped so many Smelt that Lake Michigan now has a low population of Smelt. Before anybody found out it was them, they went to the video of a hard working man who does the most dangerous job on Earth and sometimes makes very little money and they blamed him.
    I know they had a little help wiping out the Smelt. Every Smelt "dipper" I've ever known used to scoop about a garbage can full of Smelt. Bring them home and clean about 2 dozen of them, get sick of it, try to give them away and when nobody else wanted them (because they too had too many), they dump them in the garden for fertilizer.

    Did not think there was any smelt left in lake Michigan. Sure do not see them running in the spring. Nice to see at least some still and would love see them make a good come back. Sure Ted would like that also...

      This is why you don't see them in the spring!!! Commercial fishing needs to stop.

      @@christopherhughes46 there is nothing for them to eat (zebra mussels cleaned up all they had) you need to do some research sporty

    Ted please correct me if I'm wrong. Jumbo in the black tub to the left, cull fish in the bucket, other species in the center tote and regular smelt on the far right?

    Are those smelt on the floor of the boat? What I would give for a scoop of those that you're stepping on. Haven't caught one in decades

    • @amlegpost165
      @amlegpost165  5 лет назад

      As I said to another person on here, I'm not stepping on them, I don't even lift my feet off the deck, I push them out of the way. You get bitched at if the fish get squished.

    What depths are you guys fishing for the smelt at?
    Do you fish for smelt all year round?

    • @amlegpost165
      @amlegpost165  8 лет назад

      +disonesto Any where from around 200 to 325 ft. but this video was from 2004 I think. The smelt population in lake Michigan has diminished greatly in the last decade, we don't even trawl for them anymore. The smelt trawling season was usually only from 15 November to 20 April. (winter months)
