This 63 year old Canadian also uses a color-coded bucket list spreadsheet, sorted into rows and columns, to plan “Big Rock” adventures. I also have a spreadsheet that uses 12 criteria to determine a composite score out of 10 for all completed and future Big Rocks. This may seem over the top, but I have multiple serious and progressive health issues and a very high level of planning is required. My rule on sequencing is to strive for “hardest first” before my health window closes. I can sit on a cruise ship when I’m 80 if I’m still alive then. But if I want to walk the Camino de Santiago, I better have it on the calendar (May 2024 in this case). Every year a few more Big Rocks move from the “someday” category to “never”.

We use cruises to better use the expense. Flight from Sydney back to LA was 11k so we took a 17 day cruise to Hawaii only cost us $6100 and we get to see 6 more places and all food included. Win win for us.
Dang, I guess you're referring to business class seats! We are trying to get to Australia and New Zealand in 2025, but we can't find a cruise that works with our timeline. We'll keep looking. We've been to Sydney and loved it, but it was before we were full-time travelers. You're right that flights are outrageously expensive though! -Judy
We flew Ontario, CA to HNL to Sydney. Hawaiian airline then Jetstar. If we’d of done economy the flight was less than 1k. We did business for $2300. The Jetstar was more premium economy but the break up of the flight time was nice.
Unfortunately, we typically need to use the upgrade costs towards the excursions or other activities and nicer meals when we arrive at our destination versus just getting there, but if you have the budget for the upgrade, by all means, enjoy! -Judy

Thanks for the great detail and presentation. Nice to see that our typical flights around Europe are similar to your costs, except we each check a bag since we carry a lot of hiking gear.
We do each check a bag when we have to, but obviously, we'd prefer to not. It's one of the primary reasons when downsized our carry-ons in Morocco. You can see that those costs were starting to pile on. We could have tried to skate through, but a lot of these small airlines are very invested in weighing your bags and ensuring that they get every dime out of us that they can (and we really don't want to pay the upcharges when they weigh us at the counter!). -Judy
Hi Kim, We'd love business class, but we're actually fine with economy. And if we can get two economy flights with the same number of points as one business class ticket, we'd prefer to do that. Someone recently asked us if we could only splurge on one thing, would we upgrade our accommodations, have an upscale meal, or upgrade our flights. The answer is we'd book an extra excursion somewhere because we think that will give us the most bang for our buck. We always are compromising on which activities to do when we are visiting someplace, so we'd forego business class flights to have more cash for an interesting tour. Great question. Thanks for watching! -Judy

@@enriquesanchez2001 Our travel planning spreadsheets are not intricate in any way, but they are invaluable to us! I think there just are glitches. Last week someone made a similar comment and then two days later the likes took care of themselves and disappeared to a more reasonable number. So it’s weird that this video is doing the same thing. We sometimes see a huge bump of subscribers, and then they go down as well. Sometimes we see two or three posts of the same comment and then those extras go away. It’s like there are just glitches in the matrix, so we aren’t overly excited about those 5000 likes because if there aren’t views, it doesn’t really count. There’s nothing on our end that we are doing to create this weird flux. -Judy
Yes, @anthonypeter8652, We wish it did as well, but we're happy with its performance so far. I'm not sure what's going on with this anomaly. But thank you so much for the kind words! We worked really hard to try to convey this information in the best way possible! -Judy
Oh no, sorry that we weren't more clear. The flight from Fes to Madrid was only $80, but we used points to offset the cost from Madrid to Buenos Aires (using Avianca Air). But it sure would have been awesome if it worked that way! -Judy
We agree, although we were surprised at how some of the getting around adds up when you factor in baggage and seat fees. These small airlines are getting nearly double the price when you add in those costs. Thanks so much for watching, @photoboy1986!
If I can have one superpower, it would be the ability to teleport. Then I can go anywhere in the world I want in just a second and for free. How hard are those two things to get from Santa? 🥰😁 I can’t think of a better way to spend Christmas Eve than with you guys. What time zone are you in so I can try to figure it out from where I am?

Were you reading my mind, @erinaustin9968. I thought I had things finalized (or close to final) for 2025 and then Kevin threw that monkey wrench in our plans. We do think about it as well, but it's not our primary consideration for the most part. We factor it in mostly when we reject or choose a bucket list destination, but you're right, we probably should have broken it out as our own separate item. You are right, though, that it's a great feeling when the automations just come together and it's fairly low effort! That's the way our pivot tables worked for us when we were putting together our 2024 spending video. That's a lot of employees to process, so having those calculations be accurate had to be critical for you! -Judy

We use repositioning cruises and long haul flights as our big rocks since they have the longest lead times. Weather is a consideration too! We are going to S Korea in Jan when it’s cold! 😳😲 hopefully it will all work. 😂 lol
Hi @erinaustin9968, We were in Busan near beaches and wanted at least decent weather there. Seoul might be a little easier if it's chilly. But we also are wimps! Thank you so much for watching! -Judy
SK in winter can be a great trip! Seoul had a winter ice festival in a park; if you stay near to valentine's day, there were many small events and special foods/chocolates to buy. I had a fabulous hike at Namsan tower. Just bring best quality winter boots and base layers to tolerate the cold.
Great planning 👍
You are a really nice couple with a wonderful friendly vibe. Can I ask you which zodiac you both have if its not too personal? 😃
Awww, thank you so much! I am a Libra and Kevin is a Gemini. We pair up pretty nicely! -Judy
I hope to spend my retirement traveling like you do. Some countries I recommend are Tunisia, Laos and Panama.
Hi @kristinheimburg330, Thank you so much for the recommendations! Panama has had some pains lately with its rainy season, but it's someplace we are interested in visiting! We'll add the other two as well. We really appreciate it! Not sure how much longer you have to go until retirement, but here are a few videos that might interest you. -Judy

Thanks. I just turned 59. We shall see. Oh, I also recommend the Republic of Georgia, where I served in the Peace Corps.
@@kristinheimburg330 We would love to visit and have it on our list tentatively for end of July 2025 for a month. We are crossing our fingers that the politics there will be fine and it will be safe to visit. If you have any insights, we'd love to hear them! -Judy
Hi! New subscriber here. To your newsletter too. When is your live on 12/24? I'm at PST.
Hi @dpoon11, Can you go ahead and vote in our poll on our Community tab in RUclips so your time zone is recorded? We will be sending something out either late tomorrow or very early on Dec. 23 once we get a good cross-section of times for people. Thanks so much for watching. We would love to have you join us! -Judy
@@FindingGinaMarie Hi! Thanks. I got the time of live stream email. I will see you at 12pm PST. I m in Los Angeles. - Dave
Terrific! We can’t wait to see you there. Happy holidays! -Judy
I’m so confused. This video has almost 5,000 likes but only 1,200 views? Great info!!
-Judy
@@FindingGinaMarieThat’s annoying! I was hoping this video had the traction you guys deserve. Your info is gold.
Yes, @anthonypeter8652, We wish it did as well, but we're happy with its performance so far. I'm not sure what's going on with this anomaly. But thank you so much for the kind words! We worked really hard to try to convey this information in the best way possible! -Judy
Wait! Ryan air flies across the Atlantic ocean?! And the cost was under $80 per person?!! That is crazy! I have a lot to learn!
Oh no, sorry that we weren't more clear. The flight from Fes to Madrid was only $80, but we used points to offset the cost from Madrid to Buenos Aires (using Avianca Air). But it sure would have been awesome if it worked that way! -Judy
I love how cheap flights are everywhere else in the world besides the US
We agree, although we were surprised at how some of the getting around adds up when you factor in baggage and seat fees. These small airlines are getting nearly double the price when you add in those costs. Thanks so much for watching, @photoboy1986!
❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much for watching! -Judy
If I can have one superpower, it would be the ability to teleport. Then I can go anywhere in the world I want in just a second and for free. That would save me so much money! 😀 Then it would be great to have like a virtual accommodation and save on that. I mean Christmas is coming up. How hard are those two things to get from Santa? 🥰😁 I can’t think of a better way to spend Christmas Eve than with you guys. What time zone are you in so I can try to figure it out from where I am?
@bw5911, You and me BOTH! Part of the issue is even just time! I want the good weather to last and last so I don't have to be pulled into another direction before I'm ready. (Although I admit that chasing weather has pushed us into directions we are very glad we explored that we might have missed)! We are in Brazil right now, but we'll use whatever time zone can work for the majority of our viewers who will be watching! We'd love for you to be there! -Judy

I don't think they are unreasonable gifts at all, BW! I'd be willing to pay for some things, but I would like a never-ending year! It's crazy that we already are thinking about where we'll be in 2026!!! -Judy
We like to think we consider the political climate but it hasn’t always worked.
We'll be sitting down today over cappuccino weighing that as an additional option for our summer 2025 plans (where we're considering all three of these areas: Georgia, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan).
