I can't seem to get enough of Alan Cumming's portrayal of Emcee, its by far my favorite. I love this. So creepy and sleazy.. and comical.
Why won't someone cast him as the Joker already? I mean he was Loki and Emcee, he's pretty much done the role already. >.>

I was in college when the CABARET movie was released. I was nuts about it, and never thought anyone could BE the Emcee but Joel Grey. Alan...proved me wrong. When I saw it on Broadway he had left already. He's come back. How I'd adore to see him on stage doing this role. He is amazing!

Agree. I never thought anyone else could equal Joel. Lately, I was thinking about the movie and looking at clips- some of the Alan clips came up.
In the comments I saw how fiercely people loved his interpretation of Emcee. So I started watching all the Alan clips.
At this point, I feel they both made the role their own and they both did a great job.

I mean, with all this make up on his face and red lipstick on his lips... *wwww* I completely fell in love with his portraial of Emcee, even more than Joel Grey's. often as a way to remain very slim, with diets which often are very poorly balanced in nutritional value - anti-nutrient content of greens and nightshades also being a bane for many even if all vitamin needs are covered.
the dogma is also so rigid that due to empathy/guilt for animals and horror of production of eggs, dairy and obvi meat in high production centres trumps the ability to then reason that for many pure veganism can become a cause for illnesses -but they are often accompanied with a very slimmed figure
so becomes just another way of disordered eating

Money makes the world go around
    ...the world go around
    ...the world go around.
Money makes the world go around
It makes the world go 'round.
    A mark, a yen, a buck or a pound
    ...a buck or a pound
    ...a buck or a pound.
Is all that makes the world go around
    That clinking, clanking sound...
Can make the world go 'round
    Money money money money
    Money money money money
    Money money money...
    If you happen to rich
And you feel like a night's entertainment
You can pay for a gay escapade.
If you happen to be rich and alone
    And you need a companion
You can ring (ting-a-ling) for the maid.
If you happen to be rich
And you find you are left by your lover,
And you moan and you groan quite a lot
You can take it on the chin,
Call a cab and begin to recover
    On your 14-karat yacht! WHAT!?
Money makes the world go around
    ...the world go around
    ...the world go around.
Money makes the world go aroung
Of that we both are sure...
    *Rasberry sound* on being poor!
    Money money money money
    Money money money money
    Money money money...
When you haven't any coal in the stove
And you freeze in the winter
And you curse to the wind at your fate.
When you haven't any shoes on your feet,
    Your coat's thin as paper,
And you look 30 pounds underweight
When you go to get a word of advice
    From the fat little pastor,
He will tell you to love evermore.
But when hunger comes to rap,
    Rat-a-tat rat-a-tat at the window
    *Knock knock* (at the window)
    Who's there? (hunger) oh, hunger!!
See how love flies out the door...
For, money makes the world go around
    ...the world go around
    ...the world go around.
Money makes the world go 'round
    The clinking, clanking sound of...
    Money money money money
    Money money money money...
Get a little, get a little
    Money money money money...

The film quality is worse. And Alan is an good actor but i love the performance from Joel Grey and Liza Minelli with the cash coins. The film is terrific.

Should we assume Liza only agreed to the movie if they made this a duet?

Considering that this song was written for the film, therefore never existed in the stage version before that, probably not.

No. It wasn't in the original stage play. They adapted it for the stage.

How can you be the Emcee in Cabaret and not be able to dance or even move on a stage without it looking awkward? Sorry the Emcee is supposed to able to tap dance on top of performing other dance disciplines
