I presented Pennine Sport and 'Sportacular' with Tony Delahunty and then Chris Cooper from around '85, and through the 1990s.Great to hear our old sports theme - from 4:07 to the end
I have a big smile listening to this. I was at primary school when Pennine started, and I recall each of these jingles. Quite sophisticated tunes! Cheers.
cielobuio These jingles must be programmed deep in my brain somewhere. Once I heard the start of any of them, I could sing along to them. Really enjoyed the nostalgia of listening to these after all the years. As a 14 year old, I once did the Saturday morning young DJ spot on Pennine. I can’t remember the name of the the DJ who recorded my brief slot. I wonder if it still exists in an archive somewhere. Thanks for posting this piece of nostalgia!!
@@daverichard3748 Yep - I remember going along to the studio in Bradford on the Thursday and being very excited. Alan Ross played us a lot of unofficial spoof Jingles that they had made for a laugh. Highly amusing at the time. The only date reference I have to the period was "It's a Mystery" by Toyah Wilcox being played. I guess that makes it early 1981. OMG - that's 40 years ago ........
Thank you for posting - brings back lots of memories. I liked Dorothy Box, she had such a warm voice and talked about interesting topics. Alan Ross did the People's Pick on a Saturday where you could phone in and vote for your favourite single of the week. Didn't one male DJ from Pennine have a hit single in the early 80s - a comedy single taking the Mickey out of Rambo - it was good, better than my description makes it sound !
Also these jingles are from the late 70s / early 80s , this is what radio jingles were like then. Might seem tame to some in 2021 but they should be valued as an historical document our past
To me the majority of Alfasound jingles sound really amateurish and naff, and these are no exception. The singing is absolutely awful and flat. There's no robustness or energy at all. The bland English accents don't help and sound so dreary. Centre Radio's second jingle package by Alfasound sounds even worse than this one.
I've never rated much of Alfasound's radio jingle packages. These in particular sound embarrassingly tacky and amateurish with corny lyrics. Listen to the rather negative lyrics "Seems like a typically English summer" for example. They're so ill-fitting and uncool they could have been written by a child.

Wonderful warm memories are coming flooding back :)

Being down here in Reading, I never did actually hear Pennine Radio. It seems to me they had a loyal band of listeners :-)
