I just received mine direct from Formex. Petrol Blue with a brown leather strap. So light and comfortable. I’m very impressed with the design and quality.
@Dale Richardson - Indeed, SWC make these types of field watches with the Bunker and the ARK. That watch is absolutely the most comfortable watch I own (Nylon/Velco strap & Titanium case/caseback). @Long Island Watch - I'm sure this one will sell out in no time! Thanks for sharing.
I was going to say this too. I love my Ark, and I would guess it's at least as comfortable as this one, and I prefer the more traditional font of the Ark. This looks cool too though. 😬
Simplicity on point here , prefer the SWC Bunker as you mentioned , case design is a tad nicer & the lume is seriously strong. Well done just the same, I grabbed a bunch of those Velcro straps and they’re nice. Options are nice
Yes, very similar to SWC Bunker which made think the exact same thing, super comfortable. My one gripe with this watch and probably the thing keeping me from buying it is the clash of the futuristic number font, which I really like, and the antiqued lume. If they had used C3X1 or BGW9, one of these would be in the mail to me.
OMG, I pretty sure Mark was referring to my Reddit post about the ISL-42! I truly love that watch but that strap took it to another level! It’s so comfortable and I’m so glad I got the blue dial before it sold out (am actually wearing it today even)!
LIW I bought the black the day they released. It is a very comfortable wearing watch. I like it so much I may pick up another in blue. Mark, you should bring in the blue for sure. It was one of the first to sell out when released.
The muse is the unimatic, where others made it with 38mm, movement as YN55A and Nh35 [& sapphire]. Other movements and variations, and 0 shortage of choice.
Definitely agree, you need to do a video on your watch collection and storage setup. Also do you ever sell watches from your collection and if so where or how do you do those sales?
Awesome review, Marc! I just saw this watch at the DC watch show. Their new carbon fiber deployant clasp on their leather bands for this watch is the most brilliant thing I have seen in watches for years. I am getting one, but just have to decide on the color. :)
Nice watch but I like the Islander field watch better, it's a more refined desing and classy looking . A titanium Islander would be awesome !! just something to think about. Stay safe be well Marc and continued success for you and your Longisland watch team.
Looking good Marc, interested in seeing the vibrant colors in an update! Any chance of doing color matched date wheels on Islanders in the future? Have a great day!
@@islandwatch thanks, Marc, yeah I figured it is not simple and definitely reduces the redundancy of parts. Maybe just a black date wheels option for black dials though? I find that a white date wheels on a black dial sometimes just looks off, whereas white date on something like blue, gray, or salmon dial is less so. I am imagining an ISL-36 with a black date wheels at 6 o'clock 😀 I already own a salmonder but it'd be impossible to resist the versitility of the black.
Nice look. I love this design... except for the faux patina lume. It's a field watch, just make it white, it isn't a fashion statement. But really dig the case, the titanium and the numeral design.
I would love to have your Islander field watch with a basically plain dial but in nice bright orange. There’s a dive watch that has that bright orange dial but if that could be had in a field watch style I’d get one for sure.
Very nice watch, and its great to be able to get it direct from Long Island Watch and avoid the waiting and surpraise taxes. Question.- Is it a sandwich dial? Or just looks like it?
I respect the heck out of Formex for making a purple one. Purple is, quite possibly, the most overlooked color in watches. The fact that it's made from titanium makes it all the more unique.
I just bought from you (didn’t yet get it) this strap!! Can’t wait to put it on! Great looking field watches, really like the simple design, symmetry and toolish attributes 👌🏻
Is this the first video where Marc missed to mention the price? I don't think I've heard him saying it. Not a problem though since it's easy to check on the site.
Hey Marc, I prefer the Islander field watch over the Formex. I'm taking a second look at the Islander and I'm not a nato strap guy but I like the look of this one with it. All due respect to Formex.
Hmm looks so so familiar! It's pretty much a copy of Swiss Watch Company's Bunker Field Watch down to the Velcro Strap. Those straps are very comfortable. Nice looking watch and Titanium is like nothing on your wrist with that strap.
The strap is a carbon copy of the Apple Watch straps. Not a bad thing. I quite liked that strap. Comfortable as well. After that Apple Watch died I got my first mechanical watch (Orient Bambino)
Nice watch but too much reflection on the glass. That prevents a sharp and clear view of the dial. When that is improved, it would be a nice alternative for Hamilton Khaki.
Great looking watches. All the quality features come together to make an awesome field watch. Thanks for sharing them Marc and have a great day! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
Gorgeous watches Marc. All colours are great though the green attracts me the most, kind of an Alpinist look about it. The date is done extremely well and love that case finish.
Great watch. Love the case and sandwich dial. Quite a novel idea for strap. Attention to detail is pretty amazing. I don’t know why I haven’t noticed this brand!
Nice looking watch. Love the blasted titanium, case shape, hands and minimalist caseback. The strap is cool. I would love see a 39/40mm Islander like this with a Miyota 9039 movement, 200m and a more traditional numeral font.
Rockwell A, B & C tests the Brinell hardness using indenters such as pointed diamonds and balls. The balls test non-ferrous materials. Diamond tests hardenable ferrous materials. Vickers tests micro hardness. Is used in thinner materials and layers of materials. I am no expert in Vickers hardness and maybe someone can expand on it. 🙂🐶
Boy oh boy, I wish I could afford one of these,, , absolutely fantastic,, that Ash Grey, is a totally stunning piece,, I might have to get that superb strap for now,, shame the shipping, is so much, to us here in England.. 😭. The main downside to titanium watches, is the scratchability, but Formex have that covered here,, I'm really impressed... Great video...
My only request from watching this video: Can you IG a shot of the watch above the bone and tightened a bit? I want to see better how it conforms to the wrist...
Formex makes some great watches. its great to see these velcro style watch straps. It would be great if this style of strap was availiable to be purchased seperately.
This looks like it's drawn some design inspirations from Bertucci or Boldr. Formex is awesome and the dials here are way more to my taste than those two companies, but Formex using this case shape has to be validating to Bertucci and Boldr fans :)
My Hamilton khaki field mechanical recently purchased was jealous until you mentioned the dimensions. Looks great but the only watch over 39mm and 47 L2L I’ll buy is the Omega Soeedmaster
I think its got to the point that there is no more can be done to an analogue watch.Everything pretty much looks like anything else.A suspension bridge or cable stay bridge only has so many options for example. When the chips are down its a bridge .So a watch is a watch in my mind if it tells me the time .The watch market now is just flogged to death.
This one is definitely a nice piece! I am looking to the right moment and probably for the petrol blue (hope ot will go the other way the petrol pric fo lol). I would definitely pull the trigger now if it was a bit smaller.
SWC Bunker has much better specs for almost half the price. Same straps, same titanium, sapphire crystal, SW200, 20 layers X1 lume, 16 layers of anti reflective coating (8 under and 8 on top with a sapphire coating).....
Before getting my first titanium watch, I couldn’t imagine how confortable it would be on the wrist. Lightweight makes you forget you’re wearing a watch ! Formex is delivering a lot for the money: It’s hard for me to see them as a micro-brand with that level of quality on their watches. 👌
A few things here not to like, too - size (too big), price, horrible colour on the numerals (on my colour-corrected monitor), weird numeral font. It's a hard pass from me.
I really don't like that yellow/patina color for the numbers and markers personally. I also don't like the 41mm diameter as I feel it's going to wear a lot bigger because of the lack of a rotating bezel.
How much true originality is there in the watch world anymore though….there’s only so much you can do with a case/dial/hands/crown/strap combination given that watches have been around for over a century.

Very similar to the SWC bunker field watch in Titanium with the velcro strap, so light and comfortable. SWC did this last year.
Interesting, thank you.
The SWC Ark has that as well. The strap blew me away. So insanely light and comfortable.
Simplicity on point here , prefer the SWC Bunker as you mentioned , case design is a tad nicer & the lume is seriously strong.

Fair enough!
I would expect they would also do 39 mm as they did with the Essence. If that comes out, I will definitely be in for one.
Love when the date dial is matched. I am so happy you have the straps online. When I get home, I'll be ordering one of those for summer.

Nope.

The Formex one will work on other watches.
Great looking field watch!

8:50 Cool re Velcro origin. I didn’t know it was a portmanteau. Fun fact: Soylent is actually Soy+Lent(il).

Can't help but think they'll do a bracelet for this due to the impressions off the 12 and 6 sides of the case into the lug area
