“I tried to make sense of the world, I was trying to make sense of left and right, literally. Like why do some people vote right? Why do some people vote left? And all of that comes from a concern for ourselves, for our friends, for our families, ultimately, for our babies. I was really inspired by going to Chile. I went to Santiago during the protests there, which were profoundly moving. We were driving down the street, and the whole city was covered in graffiti, like all the old museums and palaces. And I was shocked. The beautiful people that I was with said, ‘But why are you so shocked? We’re protesting human lives and you're more shocked that property and buildings and monuments have been hurt here. And, in fact, human beings are being hurt, and this is what you must focus on.’ That was like a slap in the face.” Manson tied that awakening to the confederate statues being toppled in the U.S. and how the hand-wringing overshadowed the real struggles of the marginalized in society. “All these people, they have more value than a monument to slave traders, but they don't have more value in the consciousness of society, and I think it's devilish and obscene, and I want power to be dismantled, and a society re-imagined. So, this song is about re-imagining our society for the future, for our children and not making the same mistakes over and over again and allowing greed to corrupt our thinking.”

I generally like to discourage any sort of sentimental nostalgia; eyes to the future! But Im scecretly a little bit pleased if its true. Lotta good music from the 90s. Then again, I'm biased, The 90s where my 20s, a golden time on the planet earth.

@@arminrist4043 I LOVED Republica I Wish we had the same female singer songwriters we did then. I cannot stand autotune I despise it it makes songs sound so generic, artificial and emotionless. I alsi loved m people more pop r n b certainly but Heather Small was an absolute beast with her voice. I saw them live in Brighton and the electrics at the venue went. That woman went on to sing acapella and you could hear her in the whole same auditorium. We went wild when the power came back.

Music has become so cold and compartmentalized. I mean we had some amazing things happen I love Body Count which is Ice T's metal project I loved Skyler grey and Eminem's work now it's a socialedia world. We had local live venues most of which have been shut I'm in Portsmouth UK i would have to spend a fortune to go and see anyone in concert it's sad really

Still an icon after all these years. Loved her voice and style from the days of Goodbye Mr Mackenzie, through her stint with Angelfish and with Garbage for the last couple of decades. Even still play all those albums regularly.

I am a fan since my 13 years in 2000. I was an outsider girl all my life and finding a rolemodel such as Shirley helped me a lot, I started to make music myself (hell, i even got a nickname after her :)). Now I am a 33 years old mother of the most amazing girl and some of things I want to teach her comes from Shirley. I believe she was my age when I discovered them.

Garbage is an American rock band formed in 1993 in Madison, Wisconsin. The band's lineup-consisting of Scottish singer Shirley Manson (vocals) and American musicians Duke Erikson (guitar, bass, keyboards), Steve Marker (guitar, keyboards), and Butch Vig (drums, production)-has remained unchanged since its inception. All four members are involved in the songwriting and production process. Garbage has sold over 17 million albums worldwide. The band's eponymous debut album was critically acclaimed upon its release, selling over four million copies and achieving double platinum certification in the United Kingdom, United States and in Australia. So happy to have rediscovered Garbage when we saw them open for Tears for Fears last year. Great set. And we just saw them headline last week! Love the "No Gods..." collection, as well as the recent cover of "Cities in Dust." My wife and I also absolutely loved Shirley's interview on Lol Tolhurst and Budgie's Curious Creatures podcast--it was both heartwarming and hilarious!

I could listen to Shirley's voice all day long. Seeing Garbage has new music out totally made my day, grinning ear to ear now! I can't wait to get the album! I've loved them since I was 16 years old when I first heard the new single "Only Happy When It Rains" and I don't think I'll ever stop! There have been times I've craved new music from a rock band with a singer like Shirley so badly I went out and found bands like Nightwish and Epica and Within Temptation to listen to, and I love all of those bands, very much, but Garbage is just the best.
Garbage has done so many awesome songs but this one ... we listened to it all night last Saturday. Over and over again, twenty, thirty times maybe? And the bass in the chorus, so clever (i play bass myself and the first thing i did was sitting over my 4-string for hours to perfect it)! Wonderful pace, great drive, deep lyrics - a lot of thought and work went into is. I am very impressed.
