I brought home a baby shark egg case from Oceans Direct Saltwater Fish Store ( www.OceansDirec... ) about 5 weeks old and put it in one of my saltwater tanks. It was a baby Banded Bamboo shark based on the shape, size, color and texture of the egg case. I created videos as the embryo matured and finally hatched. You can see the yolk sac, umbilical cord and the developing external gills. The rapid movement helped promote circulation of the water within the egg case and absorption of oxygen by the developing embryo.
This is a work in progress and I documented the whole event as it happened. Depending on temperature and conditions, the whole process usually takes about 130 days from egg production to new born. As the baby shark matured I researched and prepared some supporting videos for you to view on the overall life cycle of the Banded Bamboo Shark.
This video includes footage of the removal of the immature baby bammboo shark from the natural egg case and transfer to a clear plastic incubator for the remainder of the developmental process. The encased baby bamboo shark was kept in dimmed lighting until maturity was reached.
When the shark egg case was about 11 weeks old, the outside surface started to turn opaque. It was hard to see the baby bamboo shark development clearly like before so I removed it from the original egg case to a clear plastic container. I researched this and there are many public aquariums that remove a section of the egg case and use a clear plastic patch as a window to view the development inside. This process is usually done around this stage in the maturity of the baby bamboo shark. I transferred and encased the baby in a clear plastic container with small vent holes for water circulation (as it naturally occurs in the egg case). The baby shark was kept in dimmed lighting in the main tank until it was fully mature and ready to be removed from the plastic container for free swimming and eating on its own. The depletion of the yolk sac was the main indicator as to when that time was near.
This is a work in progress and I documented the whole event as it happened. As the baby bamboo shark matured I researched and prepared some supporting videos for you to view on the overall life cycle of the Banded Bamboo Shark.
Stay tuned, this is going to be a very cool event. The wonders of nature as it unfolds.

That was way too soon, i would be surprised if it survived
he put in a jar so he can see the growing
So cute! I want one so bad. But I dont have the funds for a big enough tank. So I watch videos of other's sharks XD
cool! I love sharks. I was lucky enough to volunteer at mote in FL ( usa) where sharks, dolphins and sea turtles are the specialty. even touched a shark in the tank once ( a young black tip) they feel like sandpaper which i thought was cool :)
That's pretty damn cool, you can see the forming of the foetus live !
Cant wait for the update. My shark naturally hatched on its own and looking forward to seeing how you keep them feed in the beginning.
Awe !!.. That was fascinating 2 witness, & birth is so precious.
Happy birthday his birthday was days ago when u hacked it out of its protective case... Probably stressed it out as it would be able to see it's surrounding s and nor feel safe
so cute
I know nothing about breeding sharks so why do you have to remove them from the casing I'm not trying to be a dick I'm just wondering
I think it's so they can see the shark better
actually the egg gets hard as an crispy bacon. Many of the sharks die on birth because they can't make it out there. It's easier to remove them earlier as far the egg is still soft, so they don't hurt the baby
Wow. The Sharkie saga is more riveting than the Twilight Saga. I look forward to watching the next installment ;)
stareing at a wall is better then twilight
You should use sand instead of crushed coral
I think you just took it out of the egg too soon😐
It's alive.
They do this if the shark in the egg seems to be dead, so they insert them into incubators if they still live after they Opened the egg and checked
Nice..Thank you for sharing..
He’s good at that
okay why transfer the shark from his eggs to a bottle ?
Sidney garay It is a incubation. Other life forms might feed on it before it fully develops
Yh like he’s moving it from a natural egg to an artificial one
simply an incredible shark pup great video
You released that shark way way too soon. If it still has the yolk attached the size it was, it was too early. You are lucky it survived.
There was no follow up vid so it might not have survived.
Highly doubt that that shark survived when hatchlings are born in the wild they have to be ready for predators they would normally be way more active and jittery. I'm going to say is I hope for the best
Way to go, barf-asaurus....that poor shark will be blind before it's born...
It will gain sight later so don't complain.
please keep us updated. i have 2 shark pups on there way and your videos help so much.
Happy birthday to you bamboo shark
Why the hell do I hear water noise
Because he put a backing track on the video?
Where do you get the plastic incubator ?
Leave it in there .it's in there for a reason to grow . And those annoying wave sounds what made u think that was a good idea
The Picasso Trigger never bothered him? I hatched a banded bamboo but we let it devolve in the pouch until the yolk sac was fully gone.
wow! that was really cool what you did
relaxing vid... cute shark!
Its nothing else production videos about this shark
Before this vid i see your photo on imgur :D Very nice!
Yesterday I done one & today dead why???
I'm working very big aquarium in Malaysia
I have so many eggs from shark
what kind of shark is that
Should have left it in it's egg. I have hatched several and this is not a recommended method. Nor is it a good for the shark.
Where do you get "Sharkies" egg?
they're available at many Saltwater Aquarium Stores
Why didnt u just leave it?
Sooooo cute
Can you get these as pets?
Actually I wasnt refering to the birth as such, more like the discusting way in which this poor creature was took from its purse before its time just to satisfy human curiosity!
Hes so cute
We're can I get one from?
It's been a year now. Now I really think it died
so cute🎊🎊🎊🎉🎉🎈🎈
how did you get the egg?
did it cost you or is it dead
I guess its fine
this shark is beutiful
That was very soon
How big do these sharks get?
It can grow up to 30 inches
Just curious, but how do shark pups usually exit egg cases in the wild?
they naturally break through the egg case by wriggling.
After a long while, a crack develops on one end of the egg, allowing water to come in and help the baby grow, and it also serves as an exit.
just asking but why put it in the small jar not to be a jerk but i seriously need to know this for my hatchling
he only put it in there so he can view it grew
xperiaviper your right because i did it after i watched the video and i wanted to know if i was right
I've seen videos where people cut the egg when the yolk sack is gone.
Touristan Mashu dont take him out he will have long term problems. this eggs so not need human intervention as the will do fine in the wild
I feel like I'm on the seashore..dude
I don't know much on biology. But.. what's that yellow thing on it's early months? What does it do?
Xendra Ferdanz It's yolk. It's the nutrients animals that derive from eggs feed on before they hatch.
Looks like a small tank.. need to upgrade to a bigger tank for that guy..that huma huma u have get rid of him..it will starve the shark cause iou t eats to much..that's what happened to mine..it was really wierd.. for everyone don't ever get a huma unless u have a 300 plus gallon tank..
I muted the video and played the Donkey Kong Water level song...fucking amazing
genius
It look like there is no water
Tooo cute :)
Do you sell them
Cute
i didnt know shark lays egg!! omg
How many gallons
+Blue Apples you need 360+
Why do you have a shark Egg???????
What!? how could he swim already? 8:45 they can only walk the first month an then learn how to swimm
Why would you take the shark out of a safe environment that had all it needed and put it into that tiny bottle? You should have left it alone! You did not need to see it growing!
How is a jar not a safe environment? All it needs is the placenta for nutrition, the egg merely provides some protection from predators.
Its like with snake breeders, they cut the eggs in the clutch with a blade to check on the development of the babies, and to see their pattern or if they're rare twins. They do this a few days or a week before they come out of being so cramped up. Lizard breeders do this at times. A family friend I know has to do this with his clutches of snake eggs to make sure none of them have died during incubation, how many hybrids he has, how many sets of twins, how many one eyes/no eyes, etc. This is why they do this with the bamboo shark because after a while, they can stop moving within the egg. So, they always need to check to see if the shark pup is still alive or not.
I have a shark hatched 2 days ago how long does it take for him to feed and what exactly do he feed on it is a banded cat shark
Danielle Sims how did you get the egg?
Local aquarium
Fish store sorry
how is your shark doing ?
Boboexplosion I have 2 eggs right now.
Ahh, I see. I can understand why it upsets some people to see, but I've seen snake breeders do the same. They don't do it quite so soon as this person did with the shark, but it does have its benefits. If a young animal can't get out of its egg on its own, it will drown. Opening eggs gives them a better shot at survival.
can they hatch by them selfs
Mohamad Ali of course they can . It happens in the sea
Yeah this guy did it way to early not sure if his shark is gonna survive
So wat the hell arebyou ever gonna post the next stage jusst watch this on fish take kings
How r u baby sharkie
too much roocks no room
And why do you have the sound of the ocean going, when you know very well that that's added audio?!
to make the video better duh
*****
It doesn't help...
actually try the donkey kong water level music from the first game
lmao nice! XD
thats looks far to earliy to do that
Do a care video
This video is appalling.
Wtf? An egg?
Absolutely discusting!!
What the fuck is discusting. Learn to speak English.
