    I brought home a baby shark egg case from Oceans Direct Saltwater Fish Store ( www.OceansDirec... ) about 5 weeks old and put it in one of my saltwater tanks. It was a baby Banded Bamboo shark based on the shape, size, color and texture of the egg case. I created videos as the embryo matured and finally hatched. You can see the yolk sac, umbilical cord and the developing external gills. The rapid movement helped promote circulation of the water within the egg case and absorption of oxygen by the developing embryo.
    This is a work in progress and I documented the whole event as it happened. Depending on temperature and conditions, the whole process usually takes about 130 days from egg production to new born. As the baby shark matured I researched and prepared some supporting videos for you to view on the overall life cycle of the Banded Bamboo Shark.
    This video includes footage of the removal of the immature baby bammboo shark from the natural egg case and transfer to a clear plastic incubator for the remainder of the developmental process. The encased baby bamboo shark was kept in dimmed lighting until maturity was reached.
    When the shark egg case was about 11 weeks old, the outside surface started to turn opaque. It was hard to see the baby bamboo shark development clearly like before so I removed it from the original egg case to a clear plastic container. I researched this and there are many public aquariums that remove a section of the egg case and use a clear plastic patch as a window to view the development inside. This process is usually done around this stage in the maturity of the baby bamboo shark. I transferred and encased the baby in a clear plastic container with small vent holes for water circulation (as it naturally occurs in the egg case). The baby shark was kept in dimmed lighting in the main tank until it was fully mature and ready to be removed from the plastic container for free swimming and eating on its own. The depletion of the yolk sac was the main indicator as to when that time was near.
    This is a work in progress and I documented the whole event as it happened. As the baby bamboo shark matured I researched and prepared some supporting videos for you to view on the overall life cycle of the Banded Bamboo Shark.
    Stay tuned, this is going to be a very cool event. The wonders of nature as it unfolds.

      cool! I love sharks. I was lucky enough to volunteer at mote in FL ( usa) where sharks,dolphins and sea turtles are the specialty. even touched a shark in the tank once ( a young black tip) they feel like sandpaper which i thought was cool :)

      actually the egg gets hard as an crispy bacon. Many of the sharks die on birth because they can't make it out there. It's easier to remove them earlier as far the egg is still soft, so they don't hurt the baby

      They do this if the shark in the egg seems to be dead, so they insert them into incubators if they still live after they Opened the egg and checked

    You released that shark way way too soon. If it still has the yolk attached the size it was, it was too early. You are lucky it survived.

    Highly doubt that that shark survived when hatchlings are born in the wild they have to be ready for predators they would normally be way more active and jittery. I'm going to say is I hope for the best

    Just curious, but how do shark pups usually exit egg cases in the wild?

    • @Monkeyjrking
      @Monkeyjrking 10 лет назад +3

      they naturally break through the egg case by wriggling.

    • @buns4814
      @buns4814 6 лет назад

      After a long while, a crack develops on one end of the egg, allowing water to come in and help the baby grow, and it also serves as an exit.

    Why would you take the shark out of a safe environment that had all it needed and put it into that tiny bottle? You should have left it alone! You did not need to see it growing!

    • @subcon959
      @subcon959 6 лет назад

      How is a jar not a safe environment? All it needs is the placenta for nutrition, the egg merely provides some protection from predators.

      Its like with snake breeders, they cut the eggs in the clutch with a blade to check on the development of the babies, and to see their pattern or if they're rare twins. They do this a few days or a week before they come out of being so cramped up. Lizard breeders do this at times. A family friend I know has to do this with his clutches of snake eggs to make sure none of them have died during incubation, how many hybrids he has, how many sets of twins, how many one eyes/no eyes, etc. This is why they do this with the bamboo shark because after a while, they can stop moving within the egg. So, they always need to check to see if the shark pup is still alive or not.

    I have a shark hatched 2 days ago how long does it take for him to feed and what exactly do he feed on it is a banded cat shark

  • @TitaniumShortcake
    @TitaniumShortcake 11 лет назад

    Ahh, I see. I can understand why it upsets some people to see, but I've seen snake breeders do the same. They don't do it quite so soon as this person did with the shark, but it does have its benefits. If a young animal can't get out of its egg on its own, it will drown. Opening eggs gives them a better shot at survival.
