I love how Rachel gets more and more frustrated with the boy's game of keep away with the spell book till she poofs them out of the picture. Such a great story without words.
Except her one word at the end, "DONE"
I keep thinking Layne is saying, "for my mama", when he hands the book back to Rachel. 🫠
Layne was on the Charismatic Voice showing Elizabeth how he did the arrangement. It was wayyyy to complicated for ne to follow. You should check it out.

I understand that was Layne's voice that Cesar used for the low notes, rather than Geoff. Can;t remember why. The whistle could be double tracked rather that two people. This was a follow up to last year's In The Hall of the Mountain King, with Elizabeth Garozzo as guest. VoicePlay arrangements are always impressibe.
It's hard to see because it's dark, but is Eli also whistling? It kinda looks as though he is, however, it IS dark and hard to see clearly.
There are way more than 5 tracks- they double a lot of lines to add harmonies in one singers’ part.
Cesar is miming the low vocal and Rachel’s high vocal.

One thing you didn’t mention was the set. This was on a soundstage at Pattycake Productions. Layne and Tony brought in 34 real trees and 10 large hand-painted trunks to create the forest. They also used the set (in different configurations) for two episodes of their Villians Lair series and another video that will premiere in November. (They were very happy when they could finally clear it out after several months!)

Just like in 2022's Hall of the Mountain King by VoicePlay, it's easy to miss and/or forget that this is an a cappella group, performing a dozen classical pieces, with not a word spoken throughout the entire video!
Because I've been singing (not professionally) for at least 65 years, the performance always catches me first. I adore Voiceplay and listen to everything they do multiple times. The arrangements are out of this world!! Layne is so goofy, it makes it difficult to recognize the musical genius that he has. Also true of Geoff and Eli in their arrangements as well, but Layne is just over the top.
Eli did their arrangement of the Beatles Eleanor Rigby. You will find classical music there as well.
I have listened to this many times, and find something new every time. You brought out yet more details I hadn't noticed. Thanks.
To pick up the "whistle harmonies": Of course, the audio of the video is no live recording, it's prerecorded and (partially) lip-synced. They use multiple tracks and layers and post-production effects to get the best sounding result. It's not the same as they would perform live on stage. In this case, Layne mixed a total of 124 tracks for the whole project. But: Every sound they create is made by voice or body (and then edited) and so it's still acapella.
This takes numerous watching and listening to catch everything. At the end of Hall of the Mountain King, Layne managed to make everybody disappear by throwing a carrot into the cauldron that they were all using. Eli somehow brought them back with Rachel‘s spell book and she just took care of those boys.
There are so many clever little details that get missed. A favorite that I did not catch until I watched it numerous times was that the colors of the flames match the character that singing. When Geoff is singing the flames are blue. But when Layne is singing at the end it’s orange at the bottom and green at the top because he is the carrot king. I never did catch that Layne actually used a dictionary to be the (ha ha) spell book until somebody pointed it out.
It took me a couple of times to be able to recognize all of these pieces. Fur Elise gave me the most trouble. I have a friend who plays the flute and that is her favorite piece. So this couldn’t be any further than those lilting tones of a flute so it took me more than once to figure out what they were actually singing.
Brilliant fun and so well done, no matter how often you watch/listen there is always something different.
Wonderful reaction - this - and Hall of the Mountain King - are two of my favorites. Reminds me of the original Fantasia. Not in the detail, but in the sweep and imagination.Thank you.
As much as I love their original take on the Peer Gynt favourite, this short version does add a little something with that demonic chant in the background.

Cesar can sing up in whistle register, if memory serves, so he might be able to sing the high part of his 'stealing the voices' part, but not the low part.

Cesar steals Geoffs voice and then Rachels voice.
Layne actually did the low part there.
Cesar can't quite sing that low, but he can actually sing that high, if needed to.
I also love the little bit of sass that Cesar does rolling his shoulders seductively while he has Rachel’s voice.
And his crazy can can dance too. He is just so cute.
I enjoyed watching the fire change to the same color as the character who was casting a spell. Outrageous! And around the time that the love spell was cast, I noticed the paper sticking out of her bosom. LOL! Nice touch VP! Hey Shawka, what is the name of the opera that you said is one of your all time favorites❓
Marriage of Figaro is hilarious.
It was Cesar stealing voices. Layne did the first steal and Rachel did the second one.
