If you want an NFL guy, would you consider Anthony Lynn? Tech alumni. Has been teaching Kliff to use the run game effectively in Washington and has probably picked up some concepts from Kliff. Bet Joey would love him and he will run the damn ball.

I sure liked how Cumbie got the guys to play for him when he was the interim H.C. Just how thin is the ice he's standing on at La. Tech? He needs to look hard at what he has coming back, his schedule for next year and be truthful with himself about his chances to win enough to keep his job. As has been said, Malzahn left a P4 job and Chip Kelly left the UCLA head job as well. I think Emo's job might be a little more secure and is in his second H.C. gig and may see himself as that. Doege is in his first year as an O.C., so he might not be ready to step up as of yet. Spavital? Wow, would that ever be a coup. And sticking it to Baylor in the bargain would be so sweet. Man, that dude at Houston sounds intriguing, but he's been with Fritz and is in Houston for recruiting, so that would be tough I'm thinking. Good luck Joey!
Good names, but the “why do we have to hire former Tech players or coaches” faction of our fans might revolt. 😂 I want a balanced offense. I loved how our tight ends and Brooks were utilized in our passing attack the last two games. More of that!
@@nathank556 think about what you have on your roster. You're not built to convert to anything resembling a pro style offense, nor can you justify swapping to a run first spread. Don’t forget Red Raiders, now is the time to Complain about loosing both coordinators we complained about all season. Only once we’ve hired new coordinators do we start complaining about how bad we’ll do next year and how bad the decisions are that Joey made to fix this staff. 😂
High school recruiting was already bad, and this will lead to decommits. And the transfer portal is going to be brutal with players fleeing this program. This has been a disastrous week for this program. Never a dull moment in the life of a Tech fan.
Interesting list and I'd be happy with Emo, Doege, or Spavital, but not sure Emo or Spavital want to give up HC gigs. The thing about UNT is it is a career killer for whatever reason. Wood would be a good choice for DC, but that is a lateral move and UH will probably do what it takes to keep him.
Spavital isnt a HC...he's the OC at Baylor. I'd be interested in Bowie (he runs the ball too...doesn't just always pass.) Bowie, at Valdosta St, i think, had Top 25 running game, AND passing game. Just like Leopold/Kieran, etc...if you can coach, then you can coach at ANY level.
I have 2 friends playing for tech that just graduated. DC will be a highschool coach from DFW and OC will be poached from another team if everything goes as planned.
Wow, unt's offense had the 3rd most yards per game this year. Would never have guessed with how our game went. Also noticed tx st had a great year offensively as well, maybe even more balanced. Cumbie would be good in my book as well. I love that idea of the houston dc. For them to have defensive numbers like that with a trainwreck of an offense says a lot.
11:15 no level. Stop it with the only wanting people with ties to west Texas and Tech. No. We’ve played that game. It does not work. Always picking our people has been a decades long disaster. I was very disappointed to hear him go there.
Enough of the retread. Let’s get some new concepts and people in the school. New ways of thinking and philosophy. We’ve had the Leach philosophy branch since 2001 and only once have we had over 10 wins. It will be okay to have something different.
AND no conference titles, which should be the goal. It almost made be sick when Joey was celebrating bowl eligibility after the ISU win! This team would have won 9-10 games if not for Kittley.

Seth Doege is connected to Emo, isn't he? I think you make Emo say no, then make Cumbie say no, then wind up with a co-oc with baby McGuire and either Doege or Neal Brown. I haaaaaaate Jake Spavital. Can’t we stop doing the air raid tree. That’s not how you win in modern college football. Please focus on a 60% run first offense that’s how you win big.
Is it, though? No one is winning championships with a power I. Even blue bloods like Texas, Georgia, and Ohio State run variations of a spread. Michigan tried the "we can only run" offense this year and their only accomplishment was beating Ohio State. Their championship last year being the exception that proves the rule (can you put generational talent together and run the dang ball? Yes) A consistent, balanced offense is what Joey is looking for. Kingsbury's tree has found ways for the run to be successful when paired with the air raid. It seems like Harrell has taken things another step as his last two teams have had nearly 50/50 yards split between run and pass (though that could have been a result of the absolute scrubs he has been forced to coach). To win big you need consistency (the offense must always put up points), explosiveness (the offense should be able to put up a lot of points quickly if necessary), and balance (the offense should be able to put up points in multiple ways). Nationally, the best teams are gaining about 275 through the air and 170 on the ground per game, few of the top teams are shifted towards the run with just Tennessee and Notre Dame in the top ten while relying more on the run than the pass.
