Spirits of Music is an unusual musical journey through the centuries, with stops on all continents. Inspired by their creators' different faiths, the works on the program have a strong religious background and are moving examples of the emotional power and effect of music. Internationally renowned soloists and ensembles as Bobby McFerrin (a ten-time Grammy Award winner, he is one of the world’s best-known vocal innovators and improvisers, a worldrenowned classical conductor), Nigel Kennedy (one of the world’s leading violin virtuosos), Sibylla Rubens (has emerged as one of the most compelling lyric sopranos of her day) or the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig will perform popular works from the European music tradition, encompassing Bach, Mozart and Verdi. Many magnificent examples of religious music come from artists as Kroke (playing and composing with the realm of authentic Jewish music), the Kuumba Singers (dedicated to the expression of black creativity and spirituality through song), Mari Boine (one of the most impressive folk artists of contemporary time), the Bulgarian Voices Angelite (24 women whose hypnotic chant circles the globe), Vocal Sampling (a Cuban six-man a cappella group which has been described as one of the wonders of the musical world) and the the Ensemble Al-Kindi (is currently rated among the best formations devoted to classical Arab music). With the inclusion of world music, the program will achieve a highly suspenseful juxtaposition of European and non-European music.
The first I heard of Bulgarian music was listening to a public radio show on a boombox and this song came on - that solo soprano voice pierced right to the heart...
They have managed to encompass their ancient myths and legends in their truly beautifull song.If your heart is not stirred by Bulgarian music and this in particular you most likely are dead.Dead to this beautifull world of love and suffering.
You can blame Orpheus (the tracian, the white one) for the Bulgarian folk music. He lived in our lands.

Actually its the same on 99 percent, so macedonian folklore doesnt exist! In bulgarian folklore have six districts, everyone of them have different style of singing,...

I’ve heard Bulgarian groups many times, and this one particular performance is simply amazing. There are unexpected things from the melody, the harmony, the modulations, the middle eastern sounding scales, and the vocal techniques. That instrument is intriguing. Wonderful conductor, too.

Explained:
This explanation might be confusing but what we have here is this: Denka cannot be the real god-mother, because she will be quite old at the time when the boy in the song has fallen in love with her. In Bulgaria the children of the god-father and the god-mother were also called god-father (кръстник) and god-mother (кръстница), So Denka is probably the daughter of the god-mother, which makes perfect sense because she will be at the same age as the boy (although the song is sung by a female, the antagonist is a man)

First I heard of the Bulgarian voices 10 years ago, and that this music was send to space, it's first time I hear this music today,, and it is unrealy harmonic.. I know it comes from the southern part of Bulgaria, in the border with Greece. Is that true also?
@@susannaberti9928 Denka, Denkou, Dena are forms of the name Denitsa (the name of the planet Venus in slavic or old Bulgarian). "Kalimankou" means something like "sister-in-law" in old Bulgarian.

Very pleasant voice, the instrument and the way of singing is practised by Gypsy's in Rajasthan India( it's different but lots of similarities).
Gypsies sing in a completely different way. We know in Bulgaria, as there are some musicians of Gypsy origins who sing Bulgarian folk music and their way of doing is MARKEDLY different. Anyone who ever attempted Bulgarian folk singing knows this. The technique is very particular.
