I'm the woman in the photo at :32. Walt taught the geology portion of the AR Master Naturalist class. We drove around for several hours that afternoon, stopping to look at different features, Walter explaining in great detail. His passion was infectious. Clay isn't the only science teacher that Walt made a difference with. Walt was my advisor in the early 2000's for my undergrad degree. He effected my life more than just about anyone else. He is and was a great mentor, earth scientist, and role model.
I can only imagine how grateful Dr Walt's family are that Clay regularly interacts with Dr Walt with care and kindness. Thank you Steve... You always share THE BEST STORIES. ❤
I remember clicking that slide projector for him in a summer GEOL1230 class in 2005. I took his field trip class to Big Bend and he was just the most fun the whole time. Knowing him was a great blessing and inspiration!

Clay, this will be one of your hardest journeys in life, however it will absolutley be one of your most rewarding and memorable ones too, I recently lost my partner of 38 years to Huntington's Disease / Dementia. It was and always will be my toughest journey and also my most rewarding. My goal was to keep him in our home and never put him in a Care Center, I achieved that goal--He died in our home on Oct. 9th 2024 Not without God at my back 24/7 would I have been able to achieve the task God Bless You

If that picture is from off the interstate south of Fayetteville, I have some specimens from there, "tempestites" he called them, I think?
