- today I show you how to improve or to setup your joystick controls for War Thunder. I constantly get asked "how to stop wobbling" in War Thunder. Setting up proper axis controls is key.

Wow....i could not hit shit with my setting and after using yours i could finally kill something....
Normally i got shot down by bombers because i needed sooo long to line my guns up ...and with your settings i made a quick run on him and just enjoyed the fire of his engine slowly burning his crew... i can hear them screaming and i kind a like it

Memnon2212 Exactly, I could get in an awesome attack position behind the bomber, but everytime I was about to fire and make small corrections my plane would wobble all around. People say to aim at the engine, I could barely aim at the bomber xD. And everytime the gunners would have enough time to get my engine rekt.
Gliding back to base was always expect when attacking a bomber lol.

Hey I just wanted to stop in real quick and say thanks for doing this video. I applied these settings to my setup this morning. I queued into a match to test it out and who should be there? You and Feraphic!! It was a huge help making these adjustments. I was able to net 2 kills. BTW, you should post the chat from that EC where the guy on the other team was calling everyone cheaters. It was funny as hell!

OMG. I love you. I can finally say that I can play War Thunder. Hitting a burst on a stable target was almost impossible, and all my dogfight kills were mostly due to luck.
Now I can actually make the plane do what I want it to do, instead of having to fight against it. I can place my cross hair right about where the enemy plane will be, it's like magic, never thought I'd be able to do it xD.

Thank you for re-invigorating my enjoyment for this game. I bought the hotas x a year ago and got too frustrated because I could never get the calibrations to my liking. Just seemed like a waste to even try. Tweaking one minor adjustment ended up causing 30 other problems. This video definitely helped.

I used your settings, and I loved them! But then my PC broke and now I don't know how to setup the controls anymore!
As someone with a small joystick, this helped alot, and i will showing this to my other friends with smaller joysticks, so they can learn to use it to its full potential.

in the bottom left corner of the test flight menu there is a button to edit the mission. this will let you fly a test flight in any map you like with ai to fight. I find that the added pressure of dogfighting ai can help me diagnose problems better than default test flights.

Best explanation of the fine adjusting rather than what they think. Im great with a ps4 controller on arcade and realistic, no problems at all playing with ps4 controller, but this could really get me to the point of equal pros and cons . I just don't like that they reset my bindings and layout. Takes forever to get back. K30pt it up bro. You make me wanna spend my little bit of time in life perfecting the art of old school luck and kill or be killed.

2021, this vid literally helped my get 2 direct kills and 4 indirect kills (enemy fucking up or game not counting panic kills) with zero deaths (even landed with severe damage twice!) in my first real match WITH a shitty 2012 jury rigged joystick and my vr headset. Biggest tip in 2021 I can offer is don't go for tier 3 stuff, that's where all the aces are hang out and have fun with vehicles you like and can get into at lower tier.
Reducing the sensitivity and such helped more than you could believe as well as the general idea of primarily aiming with your elevator.

Thank you for the tutorial. Setting up this way did improved a bit. Not sure if its my glaring inexperience, linux client or cheap Mad Catz V.1 stick (or combination of those) but still can not hit even an AI fighter in single mission. :(

Nice vid! Thanks for uploading it looks helpful. Have you stopped playing War Thunder while this video seems quite old? The Preview version of game was released yesterday on Xbox One so finally I got introduced to this while I'm lacking a gaming PC (and PS4 ) The game appears to be promising and looks awesome with native 4K on Xbox One X. Ordered Joystick immediately, I miss these games so much. (have played IL-2 Sturmovik and Birds of Steel previously) I have a question: Is it worth it try to configure Joystick for Tanks? And naturally while I'm playing with console other option is controller, so M&K is not a reference or option here atm. I tried the gamepad controls it's kinda ok but probably will have some challenges while playing crossplay with PC-guys. But I like the challenge :)

I use yaw to aim, creating a slip angle and get deflection shots (and if anybody lines up behind me, they can`t hit because of the slip).

One think who isn't aborded in this video ; i think ; is where it is prefered to configure the hotas : Better in game (like showed here) or better in the Hotas profiler ( to get more button acces or fonction or what ever...) ?
If you set some axis curves in the profiler and start to touch the axis in the in game menu ; you will get "double layer" of curves .
What is better if you play a few sim games? ( BoS ; CoD ; WT ) Set profiles for each game directly in game ; or set profiles in the joy profiler and load the correct profile before each game load ?

I have one last question how did you set your camera in the video, and the Vision shifts please ?

I have never tried the sensitivity lower than 100% because I want the response as close to my axis movement as possible. I don't use any other corrections but a small dead zone - the reason are the same, I want my axis movement and feedback to be as close to true movements as possible.
I used a Saitek X52 pro earlier, now I'm using a Thrustmaster Warthog - the censors in this stick are of better quality compared to the Saitek, still I didn't use any more corrections using this. To decrease the multiplier has been necesarry in some planes to avoid stalls - which I don't use anymore, I can recommend this adjustment for a new starter, it's easy to over compensate the movements in the beginning.
I can see your point on reducing the sensitivity if one use a stick with low quality of the censors or if the stick are worn. I will try to lower the sensitivity to see how it works.
+Senilix flying circus Yeah I think a lot of my tips are personal preference. But I am pretty sure alone the knowledge about the meaning of the options will help.

Hi and thanks for the tutorial, im playing with a hotas and in settings- controls, there beside the options "mouse aim, "simplified" realistic and full real... I understand the difference. But there is also a control mode menu right beneath them, which has the following choices: None, mouse aim, mouse joystick, relative control and view. Any idea what the options " view" or "none" do? I can' t find it anywhere and no one has ever said anything about this.. I would appreciate your help very much!

I find one major difference between 'Mouse Aim' & 'Joystick / Mouse Joystick' and that is the horizon view.
With Mouse Aim the Horizon stays straight and the aircraft turns.
With Joystick the Aircraft is fixed and the horizon moves.
Now in WofWP you can choose which horizon action you prefer for either Mouse or Joystick
However I cannot find a similar option in War Thunder. I would like to use a joystick but have the horizon fixed like Mouse Aim.
Is this possible?

Thank you. I tried setting up my joystick about 15 times already just to find out that I cant even take off with it. The joystick works just fine in IL2 1946 though. I will try this out in about 15 hours and I will let you know if it works. (If it does not I will bombard you with questions :D)
