- After 27K miles, its time to do a proper review on these Yokohama Geolandar XMTs, AKA Extreme Mud Terrains.
Ive owned these tires for a few years now, and have taken them offroad all across the country, and logged thousands of road miles with them. In this video we dive in and take a look at how i like them.
Lets take a look at these tires and talk about; Road noise, tread life, mud capabilities, rock crawling, height and weight, and much more.
Alot of people look at these and think, "Wow those will be loud" or "Man they will only last a few thousand miles on the road". Well, yokohama worked some magic with these tires!!
They are a great tire that handles alot of offroad situations extremely well, however they do have a few drawbacks that i mention in this video.
So whether your a mud bogger, a rock crawler, an east coast overlander, or just someone who wants a cool set of tires, be sure to stick around for the whole video and see if these tires are for you!
For those who are looking to see what the durometer of your current tires are, here is a link so you can check for yourself:

I hope you enjoyed the video. Please remember that a lot of thought and prep needs to go into your Jeep before running larger tires, and make sure to upgrade the appropriate parts before installing larger tires on your Jeep. - Авто/Мото
Also, adding ‘X’ to a tires name gives it like 20% more grip.
those 27k tires look like they have a good amount of life still. pretty impressed
thank you vmuch for all your videos so far. I just bought a Gladiator a few days ago, never been an offroading type of guy but it always peaked my interest, so I snagged one and plan to daily it. your vids have truly enlightened me and have truly accelerated my love for my truck, cannot wait to install (first time tooling btw) 3 items youve recommended so far:
stabilizer, afe exhaust, & the intake. thank you thank you!
Great videos! You really do a great job explaining and going directly to the point. Thanks to your reviews, I’ve been able to make better decisions on what I buy for my Jeep. Thanks man!
Great explanation Ben . Its nice to get a real world review on tires etc from someone that actually uses the product . I know I'm a little late but happy veterans day and thank you so much for your service. Take care and be safe sir .
Love your vids brother... awesome job explaining tires. I do that for a living and you covered almost everything. Thank you!!
Thank you for your service ben...👍👍👍
Thank you for your service ..I would like to try out that catch can
Thank you for your Service to our Great Country!!!
Thank you for your service and great 👍 videos
Awesome review! Best one I have found for this tire.
As you know, Alaska requires more from everything. Softness in the duromiter helps with winter driving on ice. talk more about your time in Alaska! Every time I see your old school AK plates I smile! Thank you for all you provide to the RUclips community!!
Thank you for your service!
thank you for your service.
Love watching your videos!
Had some yoko geolander MTs and loved them. I have pats now which I love - if I was going on a long cross continent trip I would have the Yokohamas but for the day to day my pats works great and they are nice and cushy which makes a huge difference with 4x leaf springs
Thanks Ben! A proper review!
An actual tire review! Thanks!
I have a set of 38/13.5r20 on my f250 and I have to say they are holding up great and they are very well balanced!!
Also looking to put on my f250 how long have they lasted and how much would you estimate
@@kelvinaquino1161 I’ve had them on my f250 for at least 2 years . They haven’t dry rotted they are holding up really good. I’ve probably put about 30,000 miles and they’ve barely worn . It’s not my daily driver so it doesn’t get used all the time but I still haul a 25’ goosenecks with a 4 seater and. 2 seater rzr a canam outlander max Xmr and a Honda 250 . I give them a 10 out of 10 rating . They are pretty quite for the tread design and balance very well .
Nice video. Don't think I need such an aggressive tire, but you never know. And a catchcan would be cool.
I like your info on the oil catch can on your Jeep
I feel personally attacked here 😂. Good thing I ran my tires in the past before doing my initial tire review of my brand new tires. Great review!
Great tires. Hook up absolutely amazing on rocks. 10psi front and 8psi rear. Couldn't spin them if I wanted to
Another great video
First of all thank you for what you do. My wife and I absolutely love your channel ❤️ I currently have the 37x12.50 on my jku with built d44's I noticed that the 37's measure 36" on 33psi..we're close to getting new tires here pretty soon and I'm debating whether it's worth going to 38x 13.50's or just go to 40's considering they run almost an inch smaller then what it states on paper... I have a g2 Core 44 front axle with chromoly shafts front and rear, yukon 5:13's and teraflex ball joints, Adams hd front and rear drive shafts. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. Light crawling mostly overlanding. Thank you for any advice you might be able to shed 🙏
Great review, the only thing i was hoping you'd cover is loose dirt. I live in the PNW and our trails are a combination of loose shale rock/dirt rocks and mud. curious if you wheeled anywhere that resembled this and could give me some feedback. thanks
Great video!
Tire diameter is most important for calculating speed and distance travelled. As a note, although the diameter is reduced when you put the weight of the jeep on them, the circumference remains the same (which is how your vehicle computer calculates distance travelled < Circumference = Pi* Diameter (of unweighted tire))
Great video...how do they compare to the g003?
I have the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss and I like them so far. I’ve only put a couple hundreds miles on them so far. I like the asymmetric look of them.
I’d love a catch can for my jt, hope you got your jt running right!!
How long did the X-MT’s last and was the Jeep your daily driver? Would you run them again? Thanks, love the content!
Happy Veterans Day, and thank for a common sense review on the tires..
Hey Ben, I was going to buy the Yokohama's but I got a great deal on new beadlocks and they came with a set of Patagonia's. Definitely not my first choice but I couldn't turn down a good deal. I'll probably buy the Yokohama's on my next purchase because I think they'll do great here in the PNW!
I love my Yokohama Geolandars M/T G005’s 295/70R17’s best shoes I put on my JKU! I ran through the OEM 32” BFG’s and a set of Pro Comp Xtreme MT2’s 35/12.5R17’s. The Yokos are the best thus far. Highway and Trails! Went smaller on the highways more than the trails.
That's a cool shirt man! Gear and gadgets garage?
You mentioned Nitto Trail Grapplers in comparison to these, perhaps for weight but I’m wondering if the Mud Grapplers would be a better comparison; just a thought 🤔
Great review these tires are totally rad, I bought MT-G003 watching your review on that tire. X-MT is just an incredible tire.
I’m waiting for the G003 to be available in a 40 and I’ll probably swap to those!
@@JKGearandGadgets do you find the G003 better on mud over X-MT?
@@RoyFJ65 the XMT are better for mud. However the g003 have a great tread life and can be a little better on the rocks
@@JKGearandGadgets yes and amazingly they are also quieter on road of any other MTs and do well in rain but I would still feel X-MT will outperform all other muds in the market.
Would use catch can. Have one on my f150 and amount of oil caught is amazing
How do they do in the rain as far as hydroplaning
love the video
Hey ben , would you have any idea with what's going on with highbeamoffroad ? They have been terrible with customer service lately and with there warranty claims !
Hey man...so I'm a first time jeep wrangler owner...just bought a 2020 wrangler sport s with the 2.0 turbo and I want to get it lifted 3.5 in. and put some 35s on it but how do I pick a good lift..I've called a few places and most of them recommend rough country..is that a good reliable brand?
And I know they have a few different kits..wich one will be a good choice...im not looking to do any extreme rock climbing but I want to hit some medium difficulty trails so I want to make the right choice....thanks for all your videos they are very detail great job..Luis from fontana ca.
Benji. Did you forget to mention snow ? Please explain what compatible sizes are available for Jeeps as I've normally associated Yoko's for BMW fitments ! V.
How do they compare to the Yokohama Geolandar MT's you had? Granted they were smaller but, overall what's your honest opinion between the two?
93lbs is a very light tire.
40" SX2 is 121lbs
You said these ran good at Uwharrie, have you taken them on Potts? If so how did they do there? Great video and a no B.S. review is always appreciated.
I live in Wisconsin these have performed amazing in the winter like them so well I did as you did and I'm on my second set went from 35s to 37s this time 👍🏻
I'm just bought 37's of the same. Can you tell me what the actual measurements are mounted on your Jeep? If so thanks!!
@@samandkay26a solid 36 inches tall 28 psi
@@andyhorenziak7025 thank you. Greatly appreciate it
@@samandkay26 when we go off road , rock crawl mud whatever 14 psi seems to work best 28psi winter and summer fuel mileage 33 to 35 but it rides best with 28 overall
@@andyhorenziak7025 Yeah I'm mainly going to be doing low speed crawling. Planning for the Rubicon trail in August, and here in Oregon we have browns camp which is a mix of rocks and dirt. Thanks again for the input it helps out a lot
What size lift do you have, and also what is the total height of your Jeep
Did you guys get the Gladiator taken care of? It’s become a common issue that’s related to the ESS. Jeep will likely have to recall/TSB the affected vehicles. Something similar happened to the 2014-2016 Ram HD 6.4 Hemi’s. Affected engines were completely replaced.
Are you going to pickup the Hemi engine?
did you measure the weight? or do the 93.5 pounds weight come from the specs sheet online? Thanks!
Is the catch can still up for grabs ? I can drive to you I live in Brownsville
How do you balance your 40s?
Still in for the catch can!
Yeah I can't stand tire reviews that go "these are the best tires because they are tires and I love these tires and I hope that brand gives me free tires for saying I love them, I have never run any other tires and these are the best tires because I run them and they are great" - mindless reviewer
This was not that, thanks! Great video!
So when we getting a video on that scat pack 👀
Have you tried Pitbull Rockers
can we get a video of that scat pack in the driveway lol
What about ply and load range. It goes with thicker and resistance to puncher. My guess these are a 6 to 8 ply or a load range of ç or d due to weight. But that is one of the first things I look at after I look at tread pattern.
I’m looking into getting a set of these, did you have to use ring spacers on your beadlocks since the sidewall is so thick?
I was able to get away without using them, it’s very close haha. A lot depends on the wheel and ring as well
Sounds like a 6 hour drive to go pick up a Hemi. Hopefully to replace that 3.8l and just use that LS for the LJ. 👍
Are these a radials??
Is that your red Scatpack ???
I’ll take the oil catch can 😁👍🏽
What outer fenders are you running in this video? Thanks!
MCE Narrows
Hey ben I’m interested in running 40” geolander mt 003s like you had in 37. Jeep will see streets and trails but not brutal wheeling. What would be your thoughts?
The 003s are amazing tires. I would highly recommend them, but I don’t think they are in 40s yet
@@JKGearandGadgets my local discount tire says they can get them in 2 days
Wow man
What PSI are you running on pavement? I just got them and chalk tested down to 28
i would run around 28 as well
The road noise isn’t bad but it’s like I hear a vibration sound from under the fenders. Did you experience any sound like that!
I didn’t notice anything like that. Interesting, I wonder if different brand/style fenders could affect the sound differences (which is completely possible).
Waiting to see your thoughts about the Kanati Mud Hod mt tires.
Damn l might buy your “old” 40s if they are up for a grabs
Buddies of mine have these and boy they look mean however being said my 39 km3 have accomplished obstacles their 40 yoko didnt out here in the southwest, the km3 have been the greatest tire ive ever owned just frustrating their overall diameter is 38.5 and under my jeep 37.7 smh
I enjoy watching your videos and they are vary helpful to me
I have a Jeep on a 3 1/2 inch lift lift with a set of 315/70r17 with 4.56 gears and a locker in the front with poison spider sliders and body Guard and fenders with angry front grill
After market front and rear bumpers
It is a 20213 wrangler two door hard top
Where did you get them for $390? Thanks!
When they first came out in 2019 they were $368 each on Simple Tire and Giga Tire. I paid $368, one of the reasons I bought them. The price has gone up significantly since they first came out
Those “old” tires only look half to 2/3rds worn. What’s the tread depth?
Them "old" tires have quite a bit of life left
Shoot you could get 40k+ out if them when i pay for a tire i keep them ti they are worn smack out
I said the same. Looks like he can get 40,000
It's his second set. The ones he's showing are brand new. He replaced the same model that had 27k on them from what I understand.
Oil catch can please
Happy Veterans Day... Man it’s Hot Outside ... November in Texas! 😳🥵
Ben, I am interested to have the catch can if the person does not respond to you, love your videos keep up the good work
dueller at revo 3 35" I will put on my gladiator
10:54 ... Ive found a glitch in the matrix. Check out those windmills in the background!
What bumper are you running?
It’s the Pritchett canyon frame chop from barnes4wd. They have a bolt on version as well. Plus they have the Jkgear discount code for the channel 🤟
@@JKGearandGadgets thank you, I'll check them out! I love your channel and thank you for the reply!!!

Just added a catch can to my Amazon cart but holding out just Incase the other guy doesn’t claim it lol
Another thing about tire size is the wheel width a 8.0 will be taller than a 9.5
True! Great point
@@JKGearandGadgets I know this is old but I'm looking for a new set of tires and these are on my list. Bfg km3, nitto trail grappler and these. The price of these has my interest
Ive been rocking Yoko geolander go15 A/T for the last 2 years . And while theyre certainly not the best "off road" tire, Ive found theyre the best do all , everything pretty good tire . Seriously , when aired down they still do pretty good off road , and theyre excellent in rain and snow conditions as well . Plus whatever compund they use doesnt wear . Im 20k in and they still look brand new . Best tire Ive ever owned , hands down .
how's the road noise?
Those tires look like they have a lot more life in them. Could of got a lot closer to 40,000miles
Are you sponsored by Yokohama ?
I just hate how they look honestly. I guess personal taste here.
Please Hemi swap!!
Wanna sell the used tires?
Hows the gladiator? Lol
Those tires have another 50,000 miles left on them
I’ll buy those old tires if they’re for a 17 inch rim from you I’m 1 hour away from you 😂 mcallen
To be 1.5” below 40”. 👀
That’s mounted and settled for over 2 weeks though. Most people measure right after they put them on
Keep in mind if you were not aware that overall tire diameter is not the same measurement as he measured in the video. Overall diameter which most tire charts list out as a spec is a tire mounted on the correct width rim and then inflated and measuring its total diameter with no weight on the tire. What was measured in the video is not even a stated height type measurement from tire manufacturers to be able to compare to specs listed from the tire companies. The other tire manufacture number that sometimes is listed is what they call a static loaded radius diameter and that would be by inflating to whatever the manufacture decides to use for a pressure and may be maximum inflation with maximum allowable weight and that is measured from the floor to the center of the axle hub. Its this second measurement that will tell you the height you've gained from one tire to another mounted on the same vehicle/same weight but with the huge variable being inflation pressure as that changes everything drastically for a loaded radius height. So in the video that 38.5 inches was arrived by measuring static loaded radius ( as per that jeeps weight and inflation pressure ) and then adding half of a total overall diameter unloaded tire together. Also there is a revolutions per mile measurement listed by manufacturers and that all tends to fall in line with its physical diameter and another comparison tool between tires you may be looking at buying. If i can't find those specs I personally just find it the easiest to measure over all tire diameter between tires that lets say buddies have mounted on their vehicle by measuring across the side of the tire centerline and sighting to the tire on the other end of the axle and get very close that way or use two large carpenter squares across like a huge caliper to do the same thing, gives a guy a good relative comparison to other brands of the same size tire one is contemplating purchasing. Long story short, those 40 inch as listed tires on that jeep are certainly taller then 38.5 inches but I don't have the answer as to what that is, simple enough to remeasure using overall unloaded diameter.
Hey friend
Would you like to make a review video of JOYTUTUS Car Cover?
l have emailed u the details. Please feel free to contact me.
I’ll take all your worn out tires. 👍🏻
Unfortunately these are longggg gone
Mud doesn't care how hard or soft a tire is.
Dont make out with your tires on your first day out.
