She was raised in an upper middle class family, and inherited a lot of money (in the millions$) BEFORE she married JG. What films has she made? I dont expect they are commercially successful but what are they about? Now she has one out on Dirt. So she is interested in dirt, and the earth. Wow.
One can see from this interview, the reports of how she treated MG and JG daughters and how she handled the JGB tapes - She is an evil woman. If she is executor and says she is responsible for this important issue, it is not the tape technicians fault that she gets poor quality copies. She blames everyone but herself. She has no integrity and this is the life she has created for herself.
Its a shame what she did / is doing.

thats because jerry was with Manasha Mathiesen(sp) during those 4 years.... once he got back with this retail heiress, he got back on heroin, she has done nothing but terrorize legally the many other garcia relatives.

I get a bad vibe from her. she called Jerry’s family those people I really think Jerry was so preoccupied with his addiction, and being sad that she took full advantage of him until she was in a position that she needed to be in to take full advantage of him. I could be totally wrong. I usually am, but I get a really bad vibe from this lady.

Yeah -- interesting how she starts choking/ coughing/ gagging whenever the finances with the Grateful Dead are mentioned. Bitter and defensive and just weird.
I've been around a while and I know about her malevolence. (I grew up in the Dead scene; they were our local band). Thus, I understand the anger in so many of these comments.
But I also know that Jerry was not the vindictive type. If, after death, he exists somehow, and can see the whole picture of how she used him, I still think many of these comments would grieve him. Hate and revenge were never part of being a Deadhead.
She will reap what she's sowed; no escape. But let us sow compassion.

UGH! Her voice makes me cringe. It breaks my heart seeing her in charge of Jerry's estate. She sucks! I feel for MG, Trixie, Annabelle, Manasha and Keelin. He was married to Koons for one freaking year. What she did to MG on the dock in Sausalito was absolutely deplorable!

The fans were recording the music before they were allowed. The band, instead of having fans who were pissed off then okay-ed the taping. Facts... where does she get them? Jerry knew she was a business minded person and they shared love and had a clean slate and it is what it is/was. Let it go. Go FURTHUR!

yeah. she thinks it would be nice for people to have access to the music, and she can get a 'little bit of money to pay the bills'. she inherited millions of $ already. her films are crap. she teaches at a no name college. and has never run a website or anything of significance. she says she was "Executor" of a will, like that is some amazing accomplishment. WTF was Jerry thinking? Nobody will ever know. He musta been stoned out of his mind.

Apparently she used to throw stuff a LOT , she smashed up Jerry's entire house according to McNally and they had to drag her away at Club front . Not a nice lady.....
it's almost like Jerry is choking her in the beginning when she starts coughing. She knows nothing of Jerry and his music only the business opportunities left behind.
you should see the house she and jerry lived in, and she kept after jerry died, and there was another house jerry lived in, while married. kinda strange, married and living in different homes. but the house she has, or had was the size of maryland or at least n.j. she all about the money!

The public perplexity of Jerry's marriage to this person points to just how private he was about his inner-self. He wasn't one to spill his guts, preferring to speak through his music I suppose.
I suspect part of his psyche was just as opaque to strangers as those who knew him best. In an effort to parse a complex world using limited brainpower, people tend to oversimplify other people.
And so the rife speculation here yields no conclusive insights. Whatever Jerry was thinking died with him.
I don't think Jerry really gives a shit about the guitars, the 5 million, the haggling.....he's probably jammin' out with Elvis and Bill Monroe about now

To me, Jerry saw in her the face of his big depression itself. Dark and cold.

The first time they were together, she was well-documented Crazy: stolen master tapes of recordings, let the air out of Jerry tires, etc. There are legions of 'family' stories. When he got back together with her it was ponderous. My interpretation of what he saw in her was a deep-rooted wish, after leading the band after so many years, for a strong if not dominating woman, to relinquish his control to. That's my Psych 101 explanation.
Anyway...
That is the exact opposite of what Jerry would have wanted IN MY OPINION.. im not trying to talk like I knew the guy at all.. Or that I even know much about his life and personality.. But from his friends and family talking about him... They tell it like he was oncomfortable with all the merch with his face and image all over it.. I dont think he wanted that.

i mean, as executor for the time that she was, to keep putting off the garcia tape issue (she claims she waited for one guy...who failed to do anything...and another...etc) she showed very little concern for jerry's legacy, his fans, and musical history by not getting on it an making the tapes a priority. it's disappointing and i wonder if she gets it.
I think the only reason why she wants the music from the tapes put out to the fans is so she can profit off it.

Hey believe it or not, Guys do this to Women too.. I hope Jerry had fun with her while they were together, because I doubt either of them very much control over what was fate.. Obviously, she can't cover her negligence, thus her nervous demeanor.. I wonder what it was in her that he did see worthy of Commitment? Must have been something & whatever it was, that was Jerry's choice.

Many years ago maybe 2005 or earlier someone told me she sort of let him exist with the heroin and maybe kinda wanted him to die. That sort of thing. Someone that knew either her or the family or something that it I can't remember the details. Lot of money when a rock star dies
I've seen someone claim that her wanting Jerry to get clean is what ultimately killed him, which is a very odd thing to say. If he was that far gone, heroin could've killed him anyway.

Remember Garcia died in a Methadone rehab. He was getting high and went to a meth clinic to slow it down. He had no hard drugs in him when he died but you don't go to an in-patient meth rehab because you're straight.
He died because of a heart attack. It's well-documented.

Everybody should try to see her like you would your spouse. She is not a Yoko and Yoko is not a Yoko neither . But I do think she should of let Mountain Girl and child go out on the boat to spread ashes but people do strange things when it comes to death. Love you Jerry R.I.P.

throughout knowing the dead I have always combed carefully to understand why fans hate her,, and I think it grew out of bad rumors that surrounded legal battles after jerry's death and the scattering of the ashes,etc, etc... she never did anything for the fans to dislike her for, other than so-called "bad vibes".. if she gets a little bread for jerry's work you shouldnt be hatin because she makes great films that are a tremendous public service.. watch THE FUTURE OF FOOD to appreciate

The interviewer and interviewee can barely scratch the surface of what Jerry's music did and still does for so many. The shallow questions from the interviewer and the equally shallow, emotionally detached and self-absorbed answers from Koons just make me cringe........
The Dead killed Garcia he wanted out of The Dead/Garcia Band but there were too many hands in the cookie jar so he couldnt quit.Too many mouths to feed - plus all the other artists tugging on him. Plus all the ex wives/girlfriends.What Garcia really wanted to do was leave it all behind buy a house in the Ireland country side and play music in pubs & around the fire to 20 or less people.John Kahn was the fall guy but he had quit dope by the mid80s but the Dead & Deborah kept up that false fact.

I find it interesting that EVERYONE has an opinion about Deborah Koons GARCIA and Mountain Girl, and what Jerry would have wanted done with his ashes and so on and so forth, and surely they don't know shit about the situation. Deborah Koons GARCIA was deeply loved by Jerry, and it feels like everyone is hating on her just like a child does when their father brings a new wife into his life after years of misery with drugs and hangers-on such as Mountain Girl.
In a nutshell, Deborah tried to break Garcia's will that stipulated that the payments Garcia was paying to Mountain Girl in their divorce agreement (a signed contract) be continued until the total amount was paid off. A judge essentially found for Mountain Girl, not Deborah. Jerry and Mountain Girl had made an agreement for a certain amount of money be paid to Mountain Girl, but Deborah tried to put a stop to it and failed.
Crypto-Deadhead fascists. Passing judgment on people based on rumors, "vibes", and "body language". That's just what the witch hunters in Salem did.

Deborah has made some PHENOMENAL films --- such as The Future of Food, and Symphony of the Soil. These films are extremely well made and go against some very powerful concerns. Deborah is a person of great COURAGE and HONESTY!
