You know what hurts to imagine
So, at the start of the song, it's ralsei singing it to Kris when he's hurt or maybe had a nightmare, basically comforting him
And at the end, it's Kris snapping, fatally wounding Ralsei, and Kris is singing it to him as he dies, as a sort of sick, twisted type of comfort--
Another version starts out the same, Ralsei teaches the song to Kris...
But at the end, Kris gets injured too badly to be saved, maybe during a battle where he's trying to protect Ralsei (I know that's not everyone's headcanons, everyone says Kris is soulless and being controlled lol) and is singing this to him with his last few moments, trying to comfort him--
Last version is similar to the second one.
Ralsei teaches the song to Kris, Kris memorizes it...
But this time, Ralsei gets either badly injured or very sick, and is going to die, and Kris is holding him and singing it to him to comfort him while he's dying, trying to reassure him that everything is okay, even though it's really not.
This song means a lot to me. During the really tough times in middle school I would sing this little lullaby to myself when I was feeling really anxious or depressed. I was telling myself everything would be ok in a way that makes me feel it’s true, like I am truly pacifying myself. When my death anxiety would creep back into my mind in the depths of night’s darkness I would sing this little lullaby to myself to chase those little demons away, and it wouldn’t take long for me to fall asleep peacefully. Thank you so much Shy, you don’t know how much this means to me.

Gave me actual chills! I had an inkling of an idea that Ralsei’s Lullaby had a darker meaning, but you took that and ran with it! I didn’t think it was possible to love a haunting song so much!
This sounds like Kris singing this to Ralsei mockingly as they try to kill him, while the lyrics under Ralsei are him trying to turn them back to the side of good. I love it.

When put in this context the meaning changes SO much compared to the original song and I love it! The line "and hear your heartache wisp away" in the original song is very literal whereas this version is your heart literally wisping away, cracking and breaking into dust. The very next line "Let sleep embrace you" feels more like Kris asking them to give into death, to not be afraid of the endless darkness which awaits them. Of course this is all my opinion but this is still a really good song. Keep up the good work!

He keeps hiding things from us by getting Kris to close their eyes. He’s been hiding stuff from us, which he only reveals when he has to. He seems to be aware that Kris isn’t really in control, and I think he’s trying to change that

Hooooly heck.
I knew I was onto something, I knew something didn't feel right, and I _was_ right.
I imagine this (along with a bit of distortion) as how Kris would be hearing the song sung as Ralsei desperately tries to calm them down when (like others have mentioned) they're trying to kill Ralsei (and maybe Susie.) Originally I was kinda scared of the idea of Kris being evil/possessed/whatever, but now seeing all the incredible content that's sprung from this idea I'm excited to see whatever comes next and how things play out.

@xx Cosmiiic I'm willing to bet Kris took back control from us by ripping out their own soul. Chara has no presence in this world as far as we know. Kris seems like the "Chara" of this universe in a sense.
At the beginning, when a connection with the game is established, the red soul appears. That is our connection with the game. Kris rips out that connection, therefore seizing control over their body again from us.
