Boulder Dash Review Lake Compounce Roller Coaster

- This wooden terrain coaster travels up and down a mountain through a series of tight curves and airtime hills, and it is quite a ride! Truly one of the best wooden coasters ever built!

If anyone is wondering, I remember riding this coaster many times in 2012 and I thought it was really smooth. Then I rode it again in 2016 before they refurbished that part of the track and realized it got a lot rougher over the years. That part that they replaced was clearly the roughest part that in fact it was painful to go over so I'm glad that they finally fixed that.
Nick I totally agree it's rougher than the first time I rode it a couple years ago
I just rode it again recently and it was jackhammering pretty hard. It didn't seem like riders were coming off of it happy. It's still a tremendously exciting ride, but it's rough enough that I think it's going to need more work imminently. I love Lake Compounce but I'm a bit unnerved by the fact that for both Boulder Dash and Wildcat, recent retracking work seems not to have actually made them much smoother. (I actually avoid riding Wildcat on the basis of reputation--I'm going by that here.)
I'm honored to have ridden this with you, Taylor!
U did?
CCI is definitely a master of terrain coasters.
Dooble *was
The triple up was extremely rough but full of airtime. I understand why they re profiled it.
It wasnt original to the coaster either.
The craziest terrain coaster I've ridden is the ultimate
I love myself long, intense, and airtime filled wooden coasters with a hint of roughness. The last time I rode this was 2013 and I still vividly remember riding this because of the setting and forces it provides! This is my number two woodie right behind the Voyage!
I love boulderdash it felt like a runaway train it was really fun. But overall i probably wouldn’t rush to get back to lake compounce, it’s a very small park and I would probably only go back if they rmc wildcat which probably won’t happen
This has my seal of approval, because it's my mother's favorite roller coaster of all time.
One of my top bucket list coasters
I go there 3 times a summer, best. Coaster. Ever
I rode it a LOT this year. It’s a little rough here and there. I guess that’s to be expected after use and it is wooden construction. It’s a very cool ride regarding the scenery. I love riding it at night. On October 1, I saw the haunted graveyard and rode bd 7x in a row. Here’s to 2018.
It's incredible at night. moves a good coaster into great
Thanks for reviewing this coaster! It's one of my favorites due to all the greenery around you throughout the ride :)
Another great review! AIRTIME!!
I've rode this dozens of times. The triple up was the worst! It felt like bottoming out and your whole body would hurt but now its smooth. I love it!
This is one of my favorite coasters
Custom Coasters International has a winner on their hands for sure :) They have made some awesome rides, and this is definitely one of them. Custom Coasters International, for the time you were with us in the industry, kudos for building a fantastic ride :)
I love this ride ... it is so much fun and just another great review
My home park baby

Love this Ride!
So far, this is my favorite wooden coaster that I've been on. I actually have a lot of family members who live in Connecticut, but none of them have ridden this coaster yet. My only regret is only getting one ride on it, I should have gotten a second ride towards the front.
Cant wait to go back here this summer. I went to Lake Compounce once and due to the group I was with I got only one ride on Boulder Dash. It was very fun but a tad lacking. Maybe because it was 58 and cloudy/drizzly on and off. I plan to go on a warm sunny day and hope for the epic experience
I just realized why I love Ghostrider, you have the layout design of a cci, with the speed and smoothness of a gci.
The perfect coaster for me!!!Airtime rocks!!!!
Shivering timbers, in my opinion, ride wise is better. A lot smoother, quicker, great airtime and length, but this is really close.
It is my favorite wooden coaster if you sit on the left side. If you sit on the right side, my favorite coaster is The Great White at Morneys Piers.
And yes, I rode El toro
Why does it say Location Boulder Dash? I think It's supposed to say Location Lake Compounce
Coaster Box minor mistake
Coaster Studios It's fine
Coaster Box it’s fine
lol
Great review! Rode Shivering Timbers earlier this year back in July and it was pretty awesome! Not the best wooden roller coaster in the world (only smooth spot on the train was the front) but it was fun!
Boulder Dash is my favorite wooden coaster, ever since it has opened it has remained my favorite wood coaster. That being said I agree about the rough parts, which hopefully the park can remedy. 9.5 is a fair score
I❤️boulder dash ,top ten best coasters on my list
Hey I use that same airtime trick on B&M hypers
I thought Boulder Dash would be underwhelming but boy was I pleasantly surprised. Great ride.
I ♥ PTC trains. The grand national at Blackpool pleasure beach has the same style trains as this and I never have the airtime restraint problem and the grand national it definitely have crazy airtime
Nice review. Love boulder dash, and your channel too! My Favorite cci is Excalibur at FunTown SplashTown USA. It's a mediocre park, but the Excalibur ride is easily the best there. It may not look like it has much airtime in POVs, but there's airtime galore AND a super cool layout.
I can't wait for you to at some point come to washington. I really want to hear your thoughts on the classic coaster at the fair.
Whoa how cool 😎👍
great Review!
This is a great coaster.
It's a great coaster. I used to live five miles from the place and every ride on it was amazing. Yes a bit rough but I like the front seat. You feel like you are racing through the forest. After that series of up hills, right as it's banking left, you can see the tall ski lift type ride that goes all the way up that mountain included in admission!
Sadly, the sky ride is no more. They shut it down shortly after the Great Escape skyride incident, citing safety concerns (it was always a potential challenge to evacuate in an emergency--they couldn't run it after it rained.)
I loved that sky ride, and I'm happy I got to ride it while it was around.
@@MattMcIrvin thanks for sharing this, Matt! I didn’t know they removed it but I can understand why. Yes, it was a fun ride and glad I got to go on it as well.
I actually just got back from lake coumpounce and last time I went on it was 8 years ago when I was 8 and I very vaguely remember the triple up and it being unbelievably rough. And when I went on it for the first time today I actually now have a small hairline fracture it my right arm because from holding the restraints I smashed it against the side of the train. It was around the part of straight track between air time hills near the and of the ride before the pictures. So it’s gotten way worse, but the double up is so so so so so much smoother than it was when it had a triple up. So you really didn’t miss much with the triple
Before I really became a huge roller coaster fan and a(not really) enthusiast, when I first rid boulder dash(it also is my home park) I kind of hated it. It churned up my stomach so bad because I think I sat in the back, but my stomach hurt all night for some reason. Well, I now appreciate this ride, and I’m also proud of it for being in my home park.
I was watching Star Wars: the Last Jedi when this was posted. My bathroom break was four minutes and thirty nine seconds long.
My home park!
If it didint use the trerrain and you just put it on a flat piece of land what would you rate it
I alter those PTC lap bars so that I get a good 5 inches of space. But like you said, you have to keep pushing up on the lap bar or else it will click down and staple you.
I rode it last night in the front. much smoother than the middle and the back.
Craziest night ride.... night ride is better than my home park favorite.. El Toro
Man great review you do a review and fly home all the same day plus go and see star wars keep it up
This ride is in need of a RMC. 2018 season I was being thrashed out of my seat. The track jerks you around when you think it's going straight. The front did NOT make it much smoother. I used to love this ride, now I think it needs a new track and trains.
Last time I rode Boulder Dash, it was before they re profiled it, so I rode it in 2016. The old triple up was so rough. It would change your opinion of the ride. It snapped you up and down again that your legs and head hurt when you got off. Now it is re profiled so I will hope to ride it in a couple of years.
ThePCCoasterGuy 567 lmao before they re-profiled it, I rode it in one of the middle rows, and it churned my stomach so much that it hurt for a couple of days.
Wicked Boulders anyone?
All aboard the RMC hype train
Nah it dont need it
I just rode this today and maybe its just me but even though it has great airtime it is VERY rough in spots
Double up is better than the triple up but it felt pretty cool going up up up but I have to say it sure was one of the rougher parts but I loved the airtime
You should definitely ride Shivering Timbers some day. It’s a bit rough but not too rough to make it not enjoyable
but if you hold the bar so that you get air in the station won't the staf come give it an extra push?
saberline152 depends on the ride ops and how you position your body
Would u recommend front or back
My home park
Front row is the best on the Coaster, All the other rows on this coaster suck but I still love this coaster
I rode this in 2016 and was completely disappointed...that triple up totally ruined this ride, front seat and back...While I enjoyed the rest of the ride, that triple up was brutally painful. Keep in mind that 4 of my top 5 coasters are wooden. Those are Lightning Rod, El Toro, The Voyage and The Legend (since retracking). My favorite, as of now, is Skyrush. Shivering Timbers was much more fun than Boulder Dash. Wildcat, at Lake Compounce, was the absolute worst coaster I rode on my 2016, 14 park, 14 day tour. Of course, It was also retracked for 2017. The only thing that saved this park was Phobia which had no wait and was extremely fun. I wish I had skipped this park that year and stayed an extra day at Hersheypark..
Idk Shivering Timbers is pretty good
could you start putting the DTB duration
I'm a short kid for my age (4ft 10in-11yo) and my lap bar still have me at least 8 more inches of space. So, I guess if you're bigger, then do the thing Taylor tells you. If you're short, just keep your hands up.
i went on it yesterday
I’m guessing you’re doing reviews for the bigger coasters first, but I still hope for a Twister review soon.
I'd say this is even with Lightning Rod or Thunderbolt at Kennywood as best terrain coaster.
When are you going to do the Goliath (La Ronde) review?
i agree with you
This makes me think of the crash bandicoot level of the same name
i think this looks good
#Terran coaster
I know that sometimes when I'm on racer at kings island before the train goes into the turnaround the lap bar presses me. KI should RMC Racer
Michael Swancer I can guarantee you that will never happen.
Coaster Studios potentially it could happen if racer gets rougher I know blue racer is pretty rough
ki is my home park and I also don't think it will even though it is getting pretty rough
Try Swamp Fox... talk about coming up
the triple up was bouncy af
It would be pretty cool if they rmced this ride
i really want to ride
How did you not talk about the laterals that's one of the best parts of the ride.
Fox Coaster it does have some good laterals!
I was there the day that the 2 trains collided
Aaron Productions wait what happened?
Aaron Productions I looked it up the operator put it in like override mode or something with disabled the brakes and going through the last break run is NOT 60MPH but still fast I'm sure
I think this was a pretty good review. I’ve just never really been a huge fan of this ride lol
They should rmc this ride
Before they reprofiled that section it was literally like hitting a pothole at 55mph
zero exaggeration I thought i might have been injured.
What is the angle of desent
Bob Bobinski that is a good question. I was unable to find any info on this.
Oops, one time the seatbeat component unbuckled and came off not a fan lmao
Boulder Dash vs. Ravine Flyer
sooo... this was my first coaster...
thegoldpugplays mine too
I feel bad.
But it was mine too.
The triple up sucked ! It was painful and that is why they got rid of them
I think this is the biggest terrain coaster in the world
Caleb Reese look up the ultimate
*Wildfire says hi*
Ok I watched a pov of the ultimate forget what I said
Imagine rmc boulder dash
Rollercoaster gods please🙏
The information thingy says Location: Boulder Dash
EpochEmu i'm aware. Minor error.
Boulder Dash vs. The Beast
Where is riven flyer 2 review
Mitch Bob I will review it eventually.
Coaster Studios thx
Saying Goodbye to Boulder Dash 💔😭😢🥹😔😞☹️😕🙁🥺
Boulder Dash is located in Boulder Dash. MinD blown.
I havent ridden this yet but I think this will not top El Toro
Miku Hat Gaming you'll be surprised
*LATERALS*
I'm surprised you like this Coaster better then Superman The Ride at SFNE, I like Superman The Ride better then this coaster but Boulder Dash is in my top 10
Can you parody this coaster?
Mikado Gaming Channel no
Location: Boulder Dash Huh?
Phoenix, El Toro, and Voyage are probably better. I have yet to ride Voyage or Boulder Dash.
IMO:
The Beast 10/10 (15/10 At Night)
Shivering Timbers 10/10 (11/10 At Night)
Boulder Dash 10/10 (10/10 At Night)
Your lucky u didn’t ride wildcat this year
It is super bumpy worst than a SLC
You don't know this rollercoaster if you haven't done a backseat nightride
is it bad or good
I like phobia better lol
Did anyone notice that the location is boulder dash lmao
I don't understand why this coaster is such a big deal. It had ok airtime and it was in a cool setting, but it was rough and underwhelming IMO
