    Aww Jill, beautiful story💚
I was a single Mom, worked for my ex ( who fired me asap when we broke up). I had a 3 & 5 years old, little girls. One of my daughters had many issues & needed alot of help emotionally & even needed extra help to learn how to get dressed.
I took in children to pay the bills & so I could be home for my girls. I baked everything & made every meal because I had no money for take out. I never used credit cards. I paid cash for everything. My ex never gave me a cent for xmas presents. I bought only second hand clothes plus had a friend who once a year would drop off perfectly beautiful clothes that her daughter out grow. When I couldn't make enough to pay household bills, I also ran a B& B in the Summers for 6 years. My church "friends" were cold to me. I went to my Minister & He said it was because I was divorced & the ladies thought I was a bad example. I left that church that day. I had no one to babysit my children so I took them with me everywhere. I can tell you many times God was there for me when I didn't think I could have enough money for a bill. Somehow it got paid. It can be done. I loved being at home. You can do it. Some people nowadays are lazy & whinny. Waste so much money on quick take out meals & buying only new everything. My Girls are now 21&23.
You make so many great, realistic points & I really enjoy your no nonsense approach. Keep sharing your wisdom Ladies! God bless!

The wisdom of Jill Cooper is priceless. This channel and the cookbooks are built on her family’s recipes and principals. Talk about being blessed! I truly believe that Jill not only talks the talk, but she walks the walk as well. Her view on not using credit cards is in line with Dave Ramsey; a man who is worth over 55 million. He must be doing something right financially. I’m glad he follows Jill’s advice too! 😉

We had a family I knew and It was the beginning of a new year. Life is full of shocks this family always came to church . The mother was a Sunday School teacher of my children through the years.
The next Sunday the mother & 2 college age girls were gone all 3 suddenly car accident. In snowy roads were hit by a Semi. Only the father & teenage son were left. This still shocks me but yet is life. Real life and we are never ready for these things! God have mercy!

Single mom, work two jobs, my house is always clean, I clean my kitchen ever night, all counters wiped down, dishes all done and put way, laundry is done twice a week( small loads work better for me), I have a robot vacuum and it runs every day. I have a place for everything, if it doesn’t fit in the container then it’s designated for.. this means I have too much of those items.. and it’s time to declutter .. my refrigerator is cleaned and wiped ever Monday as trash goes out the next day, buying less food makes it easy for weekly cleaning.
Ever evening before bed, I do a 5-10 min house reset, put away things, put pillows nice on sofa, bring tea cup / dishes into kitchen, ect..
I don’t feel like I spend my weekends cleaning, as everything is already tidy.. I spend my day off work making memories ( homemade cookies, hiking, arts with my daughter), coming home should not make me feel stressed. I took a year to become debt free, and am still debt free one year later, and now have a 6 month emergency fund. Your show has been so encouraging, and I love listening to you ladies as I do cleaning, organizing, and cooking.

I needed this so much. I was a SAHM when my kids were growing up bc it cost every bit of what I made to have them in child care. I finally quit my job and we managed to live on very little and my children's grades went up, they quit having meltdowns in school. I have to slightly disagree on you can work if your home is in order and you are home when the kids get home. We are skipping the fact that once you get off work you are spending that time cooking ,cleaning, helping with homework, in other words always working. You don't have time now to spend playing with your kids or listening to what brings them joy or displeasure.
I felt guilty not working but I felt guilty working too. So when the youngest was about to graduate high school, I got a great job but it was shift work. She confided in me that she wished I was still at home. This threw me for a loop bc she spent all her time in her room. Turned out that just knowing I was home made her feel safe and if she had an emotional issue I wasn't there to give her a hug and make her some cookies. She was leaving soon so I kept my job. Not long after she left home a situation came up and we found ourselves adopting a newborn family member. I kept my job. It was so hard. Not taking care of the baby but keeping my house in order. I now also have psoriatic arthritis. I'm in so much pain. My job was easy so that wasn't a problem. My husband was great and usually took over the cooking and most of the cleaning but not the kind of cleaning a house really needs. Things started piling up. This year our daughter turned 5 and bc of what's going on today we decided she would be homeschooled. She is autistic and has a ton of food issues. I was overwhelmed just with her and her special needs. I finally quit working this year. She is already doing great and unless you around her for a long period of time you would think she is just a little odd. However, now I am having trouble getting the house back in order. It's a big problem bc mess and disorder really mess with my daughters mind. I'm finding it so hard to even start getting really clean and organizing has my mind crippled to where I really can't get off the sofa. My pains are so bad. So I listen to your shows to motivate me. When I got up to use the bathroom I cleaned the sink. Then I said I could clean the toilet and bf I knew it my bathroom was clean. I now have the energy to get Christmas put away. Goes to show how closely your mindset is connected to your pain. I'm still hurting but not as bad as when I don't move. Thank yall so much for these videos! I appreciate yall so much! I can't wait to meet yall soon in the sky ❤

Jill you are spot on about how important it is for a mom to be home for their children. With our first born I worked part time just 4 hours a day and when I came home my hubby did the afternoon to evening shift and also continuing his education. When kid number 2 came along I stayed at home with them and then kid number 3 . It was hard financially but we were very thrifty. Drove clunker cars , shopped at thrift stores and cooked from scratch.

One way I keep my house organized - when I leave a room I always look for items that need to be taken to another room. Example: laundry to the laundry room or a cup to the kitchen. Never leave a room empty handed. I try to straighten up the living room for a few minutes before we go to bed. Just having sofa pillows and blankets in their proper place makes the room feel clean!

I lost my husband this year and it’s very emotional to clean and change things. So what I have come up with is I have a spiral notebook and I set aside around 5 pages for each room. I wrote the name of the room at the top of the page. I then wrote everything that needed to be cleaned and organized in each room and numbered each item. I also numbered each room. Then in one box I have numbers 1 thru 20 and in the other box I have the same amount of numbers. Then I choose a number from each box and then I have a room and one item in each room to clean and organize. I find this is easier and less emotional for me. My sister and nieces help me clean with this system. I love all of your videos. My siblings and myself know that our lives were better because our Mom was always home when we got home from school. So glad to hear someone say it like it is. I am now 73 years old and when I got married they were permoting this 2 income thing. My husband had a job that sent him away from home weekly. We decided that I would stay home so he had someone to come home to. My kids had someone to come home to. I have 3 kids that are respectful and love their parents. I was like Tara they had to do what I said and they could not change my mind on it. I even had some others teenage kids live with us for awhile. One new kid asked me for something they should not have and I said no. He kept on trying to convince me to change my mind. Another kid that had lived there heard all this around the corner and came around and said to the other kid you are wasting your time, she will not change her mind. He never tried again. Some of those kids call me mom as well as my kids. I cared enough to make them do what they should. As well as give them love and attention, You have to give up big fancy houses etc. But being a mom means you put your husband and your kids first. You know what the Lord ALWAYS provided for us even when things got tough. STOP DOING WHAT YOU WANT AND BE THE KEEPER OF YOUR HOME -like the Bible says if you are a Christian.

I have a rotating closet where I have mostly summer clothes and keep winter warm stay in a tote under my bed and switch out with the seasons. Makes the closet very easy and spacious. Also enjoyed your talk about keeping a clean home for family sanity. Growing up my mother always had an after school snack waiting on the kitchen table after we got off the bus. Sometimes it was baked cookies or a muffin, sometimes a graham cracker with a little frosting and apple and my favorite was celery sticks with some velvets cheese spread in the crack!! Also I was single most of the time I raised my daughter and worked full time but she was able to go to my parents house after school till I got home. Then later on I got remarried and my husband and I made the desicion for me to stay at home because we were both working full time jobs that payed very well but didn’t always have the same time off to spend quality time together. It was a little bit of an adjustment but we are very happy. I have time to cook ALL my meals from scratch including bread- the house smells wonderful when he comes home to meals bubbling on the stove and I have time to spend with my four year old grandson whenever I want and time to take off and go fishing with my hubby on the weekends and know I have left over meals vacuum packed in the freezer to heat up when we come home. ! A lot of the practices and values you both talk about I have been doing for quite a while but I still learn something new as well. And yes….. thrift store and garage sales rock! Very much enjoyed watching you and your mother go to garage sales as it was something my mother and I did a lot of in the past when I lived closer to her in Wyoming. In Colorado now and yes my pantry is my grocery store too and I never meal plan either- I just plan a meal based on left overs in the fridge and get the rest from by pantry. Love you guys keep up the good work I especially love your Bible talks

I feel that chaos - lack of structure, whether it's physical organization or scheduling/routines - is a form of mental and emotional abuse towards children. It can really mess them up for life. Of course, being too rigid in structure can also be abusive. You have to find the right balance for your kids' needs.

Thank you! I agree with everything you are saying. I am glad you are speaking truth in love. I grew up in a home that was spotless. I wasn’t allowed to do anything unless and until everything was done on my list to near perfection. As an adult, I rebelled and feel like I swung to another extreme. I wanted to provide memories with my kids over housework. I homeschooled all four. At times it was chaos. Finding a balance is so important. I am 54 years old and my kids are all adults. I am overwhelmed with the years of clutter that was shoved out of sight to keep public areas looking nice. I have been ok with our master bedroom being a mess so that what people see is picked up. I am about to do a major purge because I know that my mental state is not what it should be because my room is not a place of rest and rejuvenation. Hearing the hard stuff from my mom or husband makes me sad or angry. Hearing it from you two seems like it is coming from a place of wisdom. Just get up and MOVE. I used that motto when I battled breast cancer and I can use it now to turn my home back into a sanctuary. A place where my family WANTS to visit. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. It is important to gain wisdom in areas of weakness that will make my strong areas more enjoyable.

When I would get restless (sorry guys, it was so loooong), I put you on pause and during the multiple breaks I was motivated to wipe down my kitchen counters, disinfect the sink and dish drainer, tidy up the spice cabinet, de-crumb both the bread drawer and toaster oven and still reward myself with a cup of coffee. Your methods put into action. Not only did I watch your video, my kitchen is now clean.

The hardest part for me is that when I have good days, I want to do something I enjoy...I do paper crafting. If I leave a big mess from my good days of crafting, I have a really hard time cleaning on the not so good days. So, I try to remember to clean up even more at the end of my crafting time on those better days.

My wife always keeps a clean house the thing was all the decorations on the coffee table, side tables, dressers etc. She went through the whole house and got rid of a lot the decorations. She has a small box of them if she wants to change them out. Kitchen counters only have coffee pot, microwave and toaster oven on them. She cleaned out her closet and got rid of clothes. Now you can walk in her closet. Kitchen is more organized. Got rid of gadgets she never uses. Everything is organized now and has its place.

I am quilter and learned to sew from my grandma and my mom. I have a small spare bedroom as my sewing space. I saw peg board rack idea online years ago and made one for my sewing space that it has worked great for me. You get a piece of peg board paint it whatever color you want then get some wood art canvas frame pieces. Stain them and put together and then nail the peg board to back of the frame. Add a strip of wood on back top edge and then attach to wall. Get several hooks from the hardware store and hang up your thread rack, cutting rulers, scissors, some bins, etc and all of your most used supplies are easy to access and organized at the same time. You can customize the size based on what size frame pieces you buy. My husband put up a peg board in the kitchen for pots and pans and so easy to grab one and cook something or put back after cleaning up.

Thinking too much, especially so much that you don't take action, is a big sign of ADHD. It's a real neurological issue...but establishing routines that you and your family can do without thinking, is a huge help! Turns out that both my kids have ADHD and they didn't find out til they were 28, 29 years old. I didn't find out that I have it til I was 53 (this year). But, I think, because I established routines and structure and organization that the kids could follow from the time they were young, they don't have issues keeping their living spaces clean and organized.

You are so right about not needing two incomes. I stopped working when an elderly woman, who had a daycare I had my baby & infant sons care for daily, until my 2 yr baby son had a cut on his lip, that I knew could not be from a fall on a stair! I could not take them back there, so, I quit my job the next day, my husband’s blessing. When they went to school, I got a job that allowed me to get home when school got out for the day. It was as a lunch lady at a different school my kids attended. The years I had them with me, nurturing them, tending to them, safe in their home and experiences being and going places with me, makes a difference in their personal growth and good moral content of character .

Today is April 19 . I decided to catch this live chat I missed. So I put you two in my pocket and cleaned 2 bathrooms, 6 litter boxes, brought the used litter( horse pellets that turns to sawdust) out to my back lot, brought in the mail, swept and washed the kitchen floor and gave my dog a bath. Now I have time to do some hooking . I made 5 hats for homeless today and had no intention to clean at all. You saying that the priority should be the house , not charity work spoke to me. So thanks for accompanying me this afternoon. Also I want to tell you that my daughter passed away Christmas 1993. I took everything from her room and put it in storage. Paid the man $480 to store it a year thinking I could face it in a year. So when the year was up I went to pay another year . I wasn’t ready to part with it. Well he had died and his wife sold the business and everything was gone. Since I paid cash he never kept a record. Everything was gone!! All her pictures, most of her trophies, all her collections and her toys and stuffed animals. All the artwork from school. Connie was 10 with the mind of a 4 year old and her toys were all for that age. My heart was broken . I cried like I lost her again. Then God moved my spirit to understand that I was never going to be ready . Never. So I had to put it in my mind that we had a fire and lost everything. All the photo albums and children’s books had names in them and the hardest part was the anger at whomever cleared out our things and didn’t even try to find us. We lived in town . The beautiful photos on canvas of my four children were gone forever . Eventually I forgave them . 😢

Its just my husband and I. I work outside the home, he works more and has longer commute. Therefore I make sure this laundry is done, dinner is on the table within minutes of him getting home and the bulk of the housework is done. Then we talk over dinner and stay connected. On the weekends when he has time he does the dishes and tackles housework I find painful (getting on my knees to scrub the tub for example)

My husband and I both worked and we shared cooking and cleaning. My husband took off the first two years when my 2nd child was born, cleaned the house, made dinner and took care of the baby and went back to school.
When the kids were in school one of us were always home when they got home from school. And yes we paid for our kids college and they did great. You are right no pets because I don't want to clean up after them.
You can make it work, if you work together as a family. A clean and organized house is constantly a family project.
Menu planning is good because it is possible to go to the grocery store and still not have anything to make for dinner. If you wait until 5pm and everyone is hungry it's hard to make a healthy dinner.

The number 1 reason why people struggle to stay clean and organized is that they put more value in constant consumerism than they do on looking after what they already have.
STOP shopping as a hobby, a distraction, an addiction. START creating a home. Get off your phone and do some work cleaning, mending, cooking, ironing, etc.
I'm serious! I have a friend who is a second generation shop-a-holic and hoarder. She is shocked at how clean my home is. I don't spend 8hrs a day cleaning. I just don't bring in more than I need.
My wardrobe is simple, based on a personal "uniform"
    My weekly menu is simple
    My decor is simple
Happy New Year, everyone!! This CAN BE A GREAT YEAR, if you make it a great year!♥️🇨🇦

You're right, people don't keep things in the same place anymore. Even when I was a young adult - people were so amazed at how "organized" I was, and how clean the house looked, even when I was doing home daycare. I had a place for everything, even the toys, and made the kids pick up and put away the toys before every meal. The tiny kids learned the places for things almost instantly because it was a bin for Legos, a bin for toy vehicles, a bin for toy dishes, etc. So easy.
And yes, if there's too much stuff that you don't have room for it, you need to pare it down. You *cannot* organize if you don't make/have the space for it.
And with kids especially, you will do yourself a favor if you only have certain toys and things that you keep out all the time. I had a big freestanding cabinet that housed things the kids were not able to play with unless I took it out and they were supervised. This included anything that would make a mess, like crayons, markers, clay, games & puzzles (because you can't play them right if you lose pieces), etc. Also, put noise-making toys away in a cabinet - you let those out when you can deal with the noise. If you are leaving all your kids' toys out for them, they get "bored" (i.e., overwhelmed with choices) and need you to help them figure out what to do. When you have things that only come out at certain times, they actually appreciate those opportunities more. And, they are better able to manage independent play with a smaller amount of toys that are always available.
Anyway, I was always floored that other people didn't live that way. I don't understand how you can stay sane without it.
I also taught my kids how to take care of their things...they didn't get replacement things if they left stuff out and it got ruined.

To keep my linen closet tidy and use the spaces wisely, I roll my bath towels and stack them on top of each other. More towels fit in the space with that method than if you fold them. I also take the time when folding sheets to get them as smooth and similar in size so they fit together more compactly on the shelf. I think the biggest secret is to not have more items than you have room for! If you are motivated to buy new towels, then get rid of the same amount that are older and have seen better days. I keep a stack of old towels in my coat closet to use for big spills on the floor. It’s much more cost effective than pulling off tons of paper towels!

My mother died in August of 2022. We had a strained relationship for over 30 years. I went to spend time with my amazing father. She NEVER threw away anything! He has a house with so much stuff he doesn't need. If you are a bit older and can't find it within you to part with things then think about who will have to handle the "mess" you have left when you are gone. Sometimes we have to find a way to think of others and it can create a motivation.

Comment about mold and oder control. I heard an expert talk about the improvement in weatherization in homes has led to lower air quality due to lack of air circulation in the home. When I was a young girl, my grandmother told me to run the bathroom exhaust fan running for at least a half hour after a shower, or open the window for a few minutes. Also, open the door (s) and a window, or two, for a 5 to 10 minutes everyday to air everything out. I made that part of my routine, even in very cold weather, and it helps to air out the oders plus keeps the home less humid.

Today I have packed away all my Christmas decorations in readiness for the new year! I live in an apartment and for me Christmas is stored in a old zip bag that a duvet came in. My rule of thumb is if it can’t fit in the bag then I have too much, I’ve never had a tree but always a garland along the window sill as then I still have the floor space. Less for me is definitely more, I can get the whole operation done in less than an hour.
