Thank you for talking about having a colonoscopy,it so important. Lost my Grandmother at 58 from colon cancer. You would have liked her. She raised 8 children and could stretch a good meal like nobody's business. She made professional looking cakes for each grandkid, sewed, kept a beautiful home and worked outside the home. My Dad joined her in heaven almost 2 years ago and I miss them both terribly.
Sorry for your loss. The good ones always go home too soon. Lost my dad at 58 yrs old. I was only 21 and devastated. I still weep on his birthday and its been 18 years
From Florida - if you ever evacuate - Freeze a Clear Plastic Cup of Water THEN put a penny on top of ice - when you return you'll know how long your power went out depending if penny is on bottom or anywhere in between.
I process the 10 pound bag at one time. I boil them til they fall off the bone. I debone the chicken. Bag the chicken into servings sizes for us two for meals or for chicken salad or chicken casserole. I put all the skins, bones and my bag of veggie scraps from the freezer into the stock from where I boiled the chicken and add water to get a full stock pot full of broth and I cook this pot for 2 days on low to make it strong. It reduces down to about 10 quarts. I usually get 5 quarts and 10 or more pints. We use more pint sized than quarts of broth. So after deboning... I get about 8 pounds of meat, which is 32 servings....equalling 16 meals for each of us. Which equals 4 months worth of chicken meals for us. We have one or two meatless meals per week, one chicken, one beef and one or two fish/seafood, and one pork. So the broth is used to supplement these meals with rice or soup or casseroles or just to sip like I do teas and will last us approximately 4 or 5 months. Sometimes I buy 30 pounds of the leg quarters at a time and I will can 20 pounds and freeze 10 pounds as stated above.
Ouch! Sounds very painful Tawra! Lots of great tips! Yes, I've had so many amazing answers to prayer with free food too! We lived on a shoe string budget for many years & one time hubby went food shopping when I first became very ill & we literally had almost no money left. We prayed before he left & a dear lady from our church happened to be behind my hubby & she paid for our food as well as hers.... she insisted & had no clue how broke we were! Very thankful! 🥰Blessings from South Australia💕🐨
Tawra, in the past, one of our three sons had a terrible Migraine type headache for 3 days and no pain killer helped. I took him to a really good chiropracter and he was out of place in his neck and 10 other places in his back. As soon as he was lined up again, his headache went away before he left the dr's office and it never returned. Have you seen a chiropractor? I would suggest you try that before you get any shots in your neck. Also there is Sacral Cranial therapy where the practioner gently adjusts your scalp. I went to one for my tight neck and head issues and he told me that I had had two whiplash incidents in my past. He could tell when he was treating me.- I had not told him about that, but that was very true.
I save my veggie scraps and make broth as well. I collect the scraps in a freezer bag, and either add veggie scraps to my bone broth.. Or just make a veggies broth once the bag is full. I save my apple scraps the same way to make homemade apple cider vinegar, or apple cider, or apple scrap jelly. The tip Tara shared about the lemon juice trick to tenderize tougher meats can also be done with a couple teaspoons/tablespoons of vinegar. Apple cider vinegar is the best.
If I have an extra bottle of acidic-based sauce (salad dressing that needs to be used up), or citric fruits/ginger laying around, I'll used them for marinades. Pineapple (bromelain enzyme) and ginger (zingibain enzyme) can help tenderize tough meats too. So don't throw away that pineapple core just yet. They pair well with pork based dishes, but that ain't stopping me from trying it out with beef and chicken.
Chicken stew over biscuits, chicken and dumplings, chicken noodles over mashed potatoes and chicken and rice casserole are a few ways I stretch chicken. I do make bone broth after roasting a 10 pound bag like you recommend.
Tawra - My husband has that issue with his throat also, he has had his throat stretched 2x it works for a time, however it does come back, his gastro doctor recommended a prescription, which is basically Pepsid AC which he now takes everyday, it seems to work!! Good Luck
I have same problem with IV's. Have them use a PEDIATRIC needle. They use these on children as their veins are smaller. Had many tears and bruises until I changed doctors & his nurse tried the PEDIATRIC needle. 😂
If someone is afraid of losing meat during a power outage, maybe they can purchase a small generator for a backup. I live in So. IL and can only remember once in my whole adult life where we had a huge ice storm to where we did not have power for a week. Otherwise, usually a power outage doesn't really last that long and the power company has you up and running again.
I can't believe that people don't buy meat on sale. I hear people at work complain about prices and they don't shop sales. I bought a rib roast at Easter for $3.99 @ pound. I am saving it to make steaks for my husband's birthday in November. This will feed all my family, with some left over, 8 adults 4 grandkids. For $32.00!!! The cost for my family if went out to eat would be ridiculous!! It pays to think ahead.Thank you for a very informative show.
I once had an awful problem of the person finding a vein..they got a man come in who was an emergency truck driver and he found it immediately! Another time before surgery a nurse kept trying to find a vein..it was torture! The doctor hollered at her and he got it done with one try. I sympathize with you.
I love rotisserie chicken and our Costco in BC Canada sells them for 7.99 Also I have a brother that has a similar choking condition and his Dr told him that he feels like he'll choke to death but he won't. Made him feel better any way. Have a good day.
Tawra, you could supplement with glutathione capsule daily also. i also drink the powder form. i get mine from the Philippines if my relative is going there, but i believe Amazon has it too. The brand is Dear Face strawberry glutathione drink. it is yummy, same makers of the collagen powder i told you before.
I was unaware of the histamine in bone broth and looked it up. Real thing! The article I found had some suggestions for OTC remedies to help. I have lots of allergies and have taken otc allergy meds daily for years. Maybe why I haven't noticed reaction. I made a bunch of bone broth a while back when my son butcher a cow. I will be on the alert for a problem next time i use it. I have the same problem with getting blood drawn or my IV infusion treatment. I have been trying really hard to stay hydrated as it has really improved finding a good stick. Worst was 8 times to get an IV and blood draw same day. Bruised up for weeks. They make a little battery heater to help warm spot for stick.
I separate the leg quarters. Drums for frying or bbq . Thigh for baking and then turned into enchiladas or chicken salad (instead of lunch meat). All Bones are saved (bag in freezer)and eventually go in the crock pot to make broth for the dogs. I take out the splintery bones after a day of cooking amd leave all the other bits inside. I throw oatmeal and carrots in the broth with the leftover bits of meat and cartilage and skin etc, and serve to the dogs mixed in with their kibble. Its cheaper perpound than cheap crappy, dog food! My old dog lived to 16.5!
Would you be a candidate for a mediport/central line if you will be getting injections regularly? May be an option. We used Emla cream for numbing phlebotomy sticks.
If the hospital you go to has an oncology department you can ask for one of those nurses. They are really good at getting the stick the first time. I had the problem that my veigns did not like to be stuck so I ended up with a port and it was the best decision ever. The oncology nurses stick people all day. Good luck! Being a hard stick is no fun at all.
You need to be eating gluten for at least 2-3 weeks before getting tested for celiac disease. The equivalent of one piece of bread every day. If not, you might not get a proper diagnosis. The good thing is, at least you will be able to eat all your favorite gluten containing foods in those 2-3 weeks. Hopefully, you won't get too sick.
have them use a 22 gauge needle when u have blood drawn. im a hard stick as well. and these r the size for children. and yes they do work on adults. bc im an adult and i request these needles all thr time. and i have for many many years
I buy the 10 lb chicken leg quarters for $7.99. If the back are attached I cut them off and set aside for other meal likes chicken & dumplings or any kind of chicken soup. We get 5 meals out of the 11 leg qrts left. that is 8 meals for $7.99. Every 3 months Piggly Wiggly puts them on sale for $5.99. Today, 9/19/24, I saved $47.11 using coupons. My menu will be made around my savings and what I have on hand. I still spent $130 but this week that included 1 cleaning product, dog food, and personal care items that I had coupons for. 2 weeks. Costco has $4.99 Colossal rotisserie chickens. I buy 2. Debone. Save Carcass for Stock. That is at least 8 more meals. I make tons of casseroles and tacos.
Our grocery stores the last few years are ordering less than less Halloween candy and so there’s barely anything if anything on clearance afterwards after speaking to the different managers at the different stores they said they’re doing this purposefully to try to save money because people aren’t buying it like they used tothey would rather run out then access that they have to put on clearance so this year I’ve decided I looking for candy on sale. It’s cheaper than the bags of candy for Halloween. I’m getting it for a penny or two piece.
You are saving alot if you have colonoscopy at same time as esophageal dilation of stricture, called top and tail in Healthcare, gives you 1 anesthesia bill not 2 savi g $$$$$, my throa5 gets stretched as you say every 10 years, reflux causes it
It’s a computer app that u order from & pay with your credit card. Ours is in our Meijer store but u don’t go through the Meijer checkout. Your order is close to the service desk in a frig or on a shelf in a bag.
When my husband had the test after drinking that stuff. It toke longer to put the IV in then it did to do the surgery. Oh I end up getting a new freezer it is a up right. I had a chest freezer since 2006. Came home from shopping found it defrosting checked with my neighbors to make sure the electricity had not gone off. Ended up paying about 300.0 216+tax and transportation to get it brought home. I knew it might go out so I have had my neice take out what I tell her since she is on my account and put it up for me. So when my freezer went out we talked about it. She sent me a pic and I decided which one I wanted and she picked it up and brought it to me. We are about fifty miles from me. I buy my meat packages 5 for 25 last time I got 10 packages and I do repackaged it but it’s only me so the meat last about 3 to 6 months. Oh you was talking about cereal when my husband and I first got married that’s what he eat for super. He lost weight doing that his mom noticed and thought I was not feeding him he was eating what he wanted.
I think I have the best low cost meat. It is very lean. Organically grown. It cost less than a dollar period. Not per pound. The whole dear. W do pay someone to process and pack it. The price depends on the size of the deer. If I want to make hambergers or meatloaf I do 50/50 with 80/20 beef so the venison doesnt fall apart. Just some time for my Husband to be in nature, in the woods with other family and friends. He kills a dear with one bullet. He also archary hunts. He fills the freezers and we are set. We enjoy eating fresh Trout. But we enjoy catching them even better. The last time I checked the price of trout it was over $10 a Lb. Our son is a big foul hunter and sometimes shares. It's all free range, eating nature not GMO crap with tons of antibiotics, or injected with water so you think your getting more meat. Huh untill it defrost and the dish is full of water and your chicken is half the size that it was. Just saying.
Did you get your micro biome tested? Or try with REAL fermentation foods. Sauerkraut/pickles/kobisha/yogurt/probotics. See if you feel a little better. I got food poisoning then 2 weeks later sick and my system totally changed. Try it. My family from Germany-so bread is fermented 1 week/beer 1 month + Italy pizza 2!days to week for pizza dough so give it a try. Good luck💗
i have stopped going out to eat. the prices alone make me literally gag for one meal out. i can get some meat and other items and get 2-3 meals easily.
I f you roast your chicken quarters in oven fill up the oven roast your vegies bake your bread and cake all at the same time use roasted chicken bones for chicken stock
My 27 year old daughters just told me off not to eat any of the food they bring home and to buy my own everything though I pay all the bills they li E in my house I do all cooking cleaning chores they made me fill like shit I will only buy my own E erythi g
Thanks for doing the math on the freezers and power outage. We get told that a lot what if...I've saved so much with having freezers and stocking up

I just got chicken leg quarters a couple days ago for .49 a pound, 10 pound bag for $4.90. Can’t beat it.
My walmart has the leg quarters for .67 per lb! Thanks for the heads up!!

1, you can boil some quarters w/onion and seasoning then you have broth and chicken.
When I was doing chemo they had a numbing cream I was able to put on over my port area to numb the needle sticks. Worked well.
I'm a hard stick too. I used to give blood for years. I get it! Hope you have a great time on your trip.
Great tip Tara! You guys have a good night 🌸
I have same problem with IV's.

That’s a really nice deal ❤️
Also I canned the leg quarters in pressure canner. cheaper than buying canned chicken for chicken salad.
The Mexican rice has a bit of tomato and oil in it. Yellow rice has turmeric and or saffron in it.

If we had a freezer issue and everything thawed, most likely would have time to cook and refreeze the meat.

I can't have sausage, ham or any kind of meat like that very high in sodium
Did you get your micro biome tested? Or try with REAL fermentation foods. Sauerkraut/pickles/kobisha/yogurt/probotics. See if you feel a little better. I got food poisoning then 2 weeks later sick and my system totally changed. Try it. My family from Germany-so bread is fermented 1 week/beer 1 month + Italy pizza 2!days to week for pizza dough so give it a try. Good luck💗
Yes I had "REAL" fermented foods. They made me horridly sick. Won't touch that moldy stuff ever again!
i have stopped going out to eat. the prices alone make me literally gag for one meal out. i can get some meat and other items and get 2-3 meals easily.
