@@JannelleOShaughnessy ok tried it! Pros: INSANE volume and more wave in my underlayers near the scalp. @@JannelleOShaughnessy couldn’t wait and had another washday with the tweek of not squishing stylers. Just so-so. Because I don’t use a lot of product or hard hold gels, the differences are mostly subtle. I much prefer squishing for the definition, hydration and more ringlets. Fun to try though!
Thank you for this video, I usually do not scrunch my hair but when I scrunch it it creates more frizz. I think in this curly journey you have to do what your hair likes instead of what everyone else says...

Soooo good!!! 👏🏻 Can’t wait to try this! Love this!😍 I’ve noticed my curls definitely always do better when I don’t scrunch. Isn’t it so bazaar how it’s the opposite result of what we’d think lol. Now I can’t wait to wash my hair tomorrow!🤗
I'm a non-scruncher also! For me, scrunching breaks up clumps and causes stringiness, frizz and wonky curl shape. The only time I scrunch is if it is 100% dry and I need to break up areas that are too clumped and add a little volume. But it is a tradeoff bc it causes frizz. Love all your videos!!
Guuuurrrrllllll!! You are the most adorable thing!! It's been a hot min since I've seen your videos and dannngg you look super good!! I'm loving and living for how fantastic your greys look and your hair has some length to it and still you've got your volume and curls defined!! So I thought for sure that my curls would be wavy and limp and not very curly at all but I got the complete opposite results!! Definitely not scrunching anymore! Thank you so much!!
I think we have similar hair types and I've always had better hair when I hardly manipulate it at all. Plopping and scrunching just don't work for me. Good to see a video on this!
That curlsmith feather light protein cream, followed by the volume foam, c me the best hair EVER! It was also the 1st time I got to day 4 with barely a touch up and my hair looked like day 2!
Generally, I shake my hair dry after I get out of the shower. I don't scrunch it until it's mostly dry. At that point, it's really only to prevent it from matting. It's always worked for me.
This turned out sooooo good! I honestly thought it would be a disaster... I would NEVER have tried this before watching your vid... but I'm thinking of giving it a shot next wash day.

Haha, love that reaction to the root scrunch. Love your energy Janelle, always look forward to your videos. Your hair does look stunning, can’t wait for mine to grow to your length, goals!!
Janelle my 1st time watching you. I’m trying to regain my natural curls, HARD journey. Trying to keep the heat off and more importantly accepting that my curls are ok regardless of what people think of me. Keep the tips coming.
Welcome!!! I’m really happy to have you here, more and more tips will be coming your way. #1 tip... love the hell out of those curls and give yourself the grace and space to get there. It always happens in our own time and that is perfect! Also, I know I don’t know you but I can already tell you I KNOW those curls are more then Ok ❤️❤️❤️
Your hair looks great! I think I'll give this a try, I often get wonky curls where they bend in the middle and start twisting the other way. I'm worried that I'd have no definition and elongated curls, but your results give me hope!
I think wetter hair works the best and then also your favorite curl definer + something with a stronger hold! Can also try using a brush for added definition! I think this technique really highlights the natural texture & curl pattern of our hair as it’s minimal manipulation!
In my younger days when I had more hair and I wore it curly, I never scrunched. I used the shake and rake routine and always air dried. I had amazing curls.
So funny because I did a no scrunch just by coincidence before watching this and I had great results. Kind of more of a uniform curl around my whole head. No more scrunching for me.
Your hair came out great! Totally natural and very flattering. How long did it take you to air dry? That’s one of the reasons I just give up and blow dry, because I get tired of having to baby it while it takes four hours to dry. I’m going to do my demo today, so I’m watching as many tutorials on letting my natural curl happen as I can. I’ll try the no scrunch challenge too. Thank you!
I did this 2 weeks back. I have a loose texture much like yours. I usually scrunch to boost the spring in it. I was terrified. But my hair loved it and it stayed for a whole week.

I can’t believe it! This worked better than my scrunching techniques. And today (day 2) looks even better than usual. Styling took 1/2 as long (though drying took longer since I air dried like you did). I will diffuse next time. Thank you!!!

Kind of similar to the feeling of after a day or two where your hair can still feel clean but has a slight dirtier feel.. does that make sense?
For my fine thin density hair this would never work. More for curlier girls than me.
That might be true! I’ve definitely seen people with wavy hair not be able to achieve as much definition as they would with scrunching! Definitely going to depend on the persons hair type and texture!
