I'm actually surprised to learn we don't know the highest possible score in Scrabble. Not that I've really thought about it before, but I thought it might be possible to come up with an algorithm that would make it solvable, for a supercomputer at least.
im pretty sure there's infinite possibilities, computers still cant predict perfectly chess games so dont even think about scrabbles !
@@thomasprovot1621 well, no, it's definitely not like chess, and it's definitely not infinite. There's a finite number of valid words, not to mention a finite number of squares and a finite number of letters to put on them.
@@DodderingOldManWhile not literally infinite there's so many possible combinations of words, squares, and positions that it is effectively infinite.
So you could technically get an answer eventually if you're up for waiting until the heat death of the universe for it
The problem seems to be that you need to use all seven letters to create a vertical word that also changes seven horizonal words into new words that exist. (Or vice versa on the vertical/horizonal part.)
At the same time, this might still be feasible. You would need to look for 15 letter words that would score the best going vertically at the edge of the board.
Then you would need to come up with seven words that you can add a letter to at the beginning or at the end to change its meaning that could fit into the vertical word.
Once that is done, you would just need to come up with word structures to allow you to build these words into the board.
(For example, the first word of the game was Washing, which became Rainwashing and was used to build the left side of the board up.
We really have to emphasize the E when adding it to the board

I once put down "member" on w triple word, then next go made it "remember" so It was across 2 triple words, then (i checked, its a real word) next go made it "reremember". ended up a good few hundred points ahead
@@pi3.14etc you can only use multipliers like that on the move you place on them. eg. member would be tripled, then remember would be tripled but only from one of its tripled and reremember would not be multiplied at all because it doesn't newly cover a triple. Also reremember is not a valid scrabble word (i checked, its not a real word).

Play George Lucas rules and as long as you can make up a convincing definition for the species of Star Wars alien you created, it is valid.
I've always found scrabble to be extremely frustrating, since language is constantly changing and evolving, so it just comes down to which edition of the dictionary is being used and who is most familiar with it.
I opened a private browser window to look up what "jaculating" means. Apparently it's innocent, and just means "to throw or hurl, as in a dart". Which... makes the other word's etymology make sense, too.

There are some Arthur Conan Doyle short stories where it’s not uncommon to read something like “Watson, do you not realize what this portends?!” Holmes ejaculated loudly.
