Spot on , I felt the same way about there being more items as well but then I thought, well maybe there is some replay value in challenging yourself in another play through and opting out of buying upgrades / items since the game doesn’t force you to use them
Nice review glad my number 1 franchise getting scored high but the biggest prob i have is the anoying auto lock curser messes me up constantly locking on different things at the worst of times wish the old curser from 3 or even better 2 o and then difficulty needs to be in order love this game but im stickin with my pikmin 2 this my second fav though even if i have less control such as lack of swarm but i hope more join the pikmin community

Great review! I’ve been really surprised by the quality of the visuals. Silky smooth frame rate, complicated and detailed geometry, and it’s got antialiasing to boot! Seems like Nintendo has finally figured out how to get the most out of their console. It actually looks like a generation leap over Pikmin 3 (which looks great and has aged well). Still adjusting to the gameplay changes… but loving it so far, overall!
Damn Pikmin are so cute. I lost a few when playing the Pikmin 4 demo because I was being an idiot, and that was incredibly devastating 🥲 I did feel like this one is gonna be decent for a newbie to the series like me, so I'm excited to give it a go! Pikmin has been one of my favorite game franchises since the first game originally was released on GameCube, way back in 2001 when I was only a first grader. My, how time flies. I've been in love with the series since the beginning, and I still can't believe Pikmin 4 is finally here. I've been playing non-stop since the second it was released, and it's made me feel like a kid again, exploring the beautiful environments and dreading what kind of strange creatures are lurking around the corner. I love it so much. There are a few features that I am a little conflicted about, but for the most part, it's been a fun time as I'm nearing the 100% end. I've been playing so religiously that I have dreams about it every night, just like I always used to (yes, seriously, to give you an idea of the impact these games had on my imagination, I always dream about playing Pikmin with weird new stuff, like some kind of romhack). All in all, great game. The new additions to the formula like the collection of raw materials and Oatchi come together well. Love the Ice Pikmin and Glow Pikmin too, they're great new members of the Pikmin family. It's been a long time coming, but I've had a blast with this beautiful new installment in my beloved franchise. It's great to hear new fans are being introduced to one of Miyamoto and Nintendo's most unique and imaginative creations. I will always love Pikmin, this series is near and dear to my heart. Here's looking forward to a bright future, when Pikmin 5 becomes reality. Some day. ...But please, Nintendo...make the Dandori challenges an optional, separate mode next time. It was easily the weakest part and brought the game down a bit for me.
Not sure if you know, but I heard that if you fail a Dandori battle then another crew member steps in and finishes it for you. Seems very odd but I guess it is a way you can sort of skip it 😂
This series is special to me for a couple of reasons. First, its one of my feel good games, second, and more importantly, it was the first game series that my wife (who is not a gamer) and I played to completion in co op, starting with Pikmin 2. The fact that they decided against a true co-op campain, feels like they took away a great part of what made the series so fun. Everything else they added however has been great! We're having a blast with the game regardless.
I do like futzing around the levels and throwing Pikmin around. This release will be a Xmas holiday purchase. I like some of the pressures reduced for a more relaxing experience.
Being my first pikmin game the controls are very fluid and welcoming I still think it would benefit from gyro controls as an option but how it is now is great and very easy to use
Based on your desire for less items, did you get to the part of the game that was extremely reminiscent of the first pikmin? Once I got to that part, this game is officially my favorite Pikmin. (Previously the first was my favorite).
Great review Glen!! I am absolutely loving Pikmin 4. I love that there is so much treasure to collect and it is bringing out the inner treasure hunter. Having a lot of fun with this one!
It’s only when you get to play as Olimar that you realise how much better the game becomes because he interacts and talks to the Pikmin. Nintendo doesn’t need anymore mute protagonists.
This gives me some hope as I’m still waiting for the Genshin Impact port. I sometimes forget how slow Nintendo is to deliver on their promises. Hopefully Genshin isn’t just forgotten about.
@@Clogmonger it’s up to Nintendo because they promised in a Nintendo direct a few years ago. The developers didn’t promote it coming to Switch until after that. It’s really on both now. But Nintendo made the promise first so it’s on them to make sure the developers deliver.
@@Clogmonger yea, that’s exactly what I don’t get too. Works well on phones and tablets. That’s why I think it’s something on Nintendo’s end and not the developers. Probably some legal issues of some sort.
You're right about the abundance of treasures. It makes them feel cheaper and less special. And i hold that exact same issue with Mario Odyssey's moons too.
I wish there weren't so many repeated ones. Wish there were larger ones....they made them take a lot less pikmin to carry but buffed up oatchi to carry 100 when it's really not necessary? Only complaint really.

The only big downside of Pikmin 4 compared to the stellar Pikmin 3 Deluxe is the lack of real co-op. - Also the limits on Pikmin types you can take out. Many suspect this is due to the limitation of the ageing Switch hardware. Pikmin 4 Deluxe ought to be on the Switch successor. Oatchie really is the 2nd player.
just 100% the game, best pikmin yet, had features from every game, and they way they built the side challenges into the story was refreshing, only complaint is that there is no good way to manually aim making some task annoying
I loved the gameplay, but the lack of transparency regarding its story drove me crazy. I kept waiting for the game to either justify itself as a sequel or reveal itself as a reboot, but it just doesn't. Still a great game, but I'm not fond of how this and TotK are so eager to just ignore past continuity.
16/20 for controls is a joke. This is an rts for a console, the controls are an amazing accomplishment. Graphically, i have not seen anything id change, and it has not stuttered, i would have given that a perfect score as well. Not done yet, but think my goty is going to be pikmin or bg3
they have free demos that give you a very good idea of the playstyle. I recommend that. If you do like the playstyle, then I wouldn't worry about doing them in order. They're not particularly story driven games. But that being said, each entry in the series has its own spin, so each one of them has aged very well and is worth playing
@@yis8fire I happen to agree with the sentiment that the first game nailed the balance of urgency and gravitas of being stranded on an alien planet with limited time and resources so if you can get into the gameplay go for the first one to start, then pick whatever if you enjoyed it and want more content as the entries are independent of eachother. All great games, give or take a few flaws here and there, but the first one is near flawless imho.
@@Astral0muffiN Hmmm, the controls of the first two games and the awful Pikmin AI isn't so great, but overall, I can definitely agree that each game has it's own charme and is worth playing (if you like the general gameplay). Try out the Demo, if you like it, I'm sure you'll have fun with the series.

Spot on , I felt the same way about there being more items as well but then I thought, well maybe there is some replay value in challenging yourself in another play through and opting out of buying upgrades / items since the game doesn’t force you to use them
I have spent every hour of the past 2 days playing this game. The only breaks I have taken were when I needed to do something or when I was sleeping
Nvm swarm in the game wow had it the whole time found out how to do it by hitting wrong buttons... awsome would of saved manh pikmin lives if i knew (-_-') the curser and difficult are only probs have o and rocket punch needs major buff it sucks not worth using at this point
I'm sorry, but the lack of punctuation makes this really hard to read
@@micahfurlow2624 yah i get that alot school didnt teach me english well and having a disability doesnt help sorry about that
Great review!
After tackling some of my backlog though 😅
Thanks for the review, excellent work as always!
Yeah, it's always pretty gut wrenching when you lose some! Glen
I bought this game, after seeing this video. It is my first Pikmin game, and I am loving it. It is charming, and the graphics are very good. I may have to buy the others, once I am done with this one.
I just received my copy today, i've yet to start it but i'm looking forward to it (i love the Pikmin's little "wah ha" sound when you throw them, it's so adorable, there#s a level of charm to this series you can't get anywhere else, i'm so glad Pikmin is back :)
It's an incredibly charming series for sure! Glen
Am I the only one who also really enjoyed Hey! Pikmin on the 3DS? While not a traditional Pikmin game, it definitely had its charm.
Always something to complain about. No praise for added additions like the NIGHT MISSIONS, DANDORI BATTLES and the amazing Olimar's Ship Wreck Adventure. Which if I paid $20 for DLC I would have been happen. THEN, after you beat Olimar, even more crazy hard difficult content opens with the SAGE LEAF missions. How did you miss all of this amazing content in your review? Oh yea I get it, you didn't complete it yet.
My main issues were the enemies don't respond and the difficulty can't be changed.
if you want a really difficult self imposed challenge, ive got one for you:
Pik4 kaizo
Minimum oachi (only use when necessary)
Minimum flarlics
No upgrades ever
And no rewind or restarts
Good luck!
Another Code: Recollection is my most anticipated. I never played the original, and the demo that came out has me intrigued.
Seems very odd but I guess it is a way you can sort of skip it 😂
Such nostalgia, grew up playing Pikmin!
I just want to play as one character like in Pikmin 1 (best pikmin game imo) so this is a godsend. Can’t wait for my download to finish!
Pikmin never was my thing, but from the comments Ive read here, I am glad to see it has been highly received by the fans. Nintendo, you did good.
I am new to Nintendo switch games I have never played a pikmin before but man it is addictive I played the demo and I will buy this game
This is what i want. And what the littles been buggin for. 😊😊
Find pieces of your ship? Sounds familiar.... Toe Jam and Earl!
Being my first pikmin game the controls are very fluid and welcoming I still think it would benefit from gyro controls as an option but how it is now is great and very easy to use
I agree with the pebble shooter mode being a lacking piece but I’ve never felt gyro controls to be accurate or helpful in any game I have played.
Based on your desire for less items, did you get to the part of the game that was extremely reminiscent of the first pikmin? Once I got to that part, this game is officially my favorite Pikmin. (Previously the first was my favorite).
I will play the series in order
Great review Glen!! I am absolutely loving Pikmin 4. I love that there is so much treasure to collect and it is bringing out the inner treasure hunter. Having a lot of fun with this one!
First Pikmin game ever and I love this game so much, I love Oatchi and the Pikmin, definitely recommend
This is all I been playing on Switch since it came out
One of the best reboots I've ever played--if that means anything.
Thanks for the review fellas!
It was so fun but I hope that they add some DLCs or updates to add a new game+
It’s only when you get to play as Olimar that you realise how much better the game becomes because he interacts and talks to the Pikmin. Nintendo doesn’t need anymore mute protagonists.
This gives me some hope as I’m still waiting for the Genshin Impact port. I sometimes forget how slow Nintendo is to deliver on their promises. Hopefully Genshin isn’t just forgotten about.
Wouldn't that be up to the Genshin developer, not Nintendo? What's this have to do with that?
@@Clogmonger it’s up to Nintendo because they promised in a Nintendo direct a few years ago. The developers didn’t promote it coming to Switch until after that. It’s really on both now. But Nintendo made the promise first so it’s on them to make sure the developers deliver.
@@DefinitelyNotBender gotcha. I think they said it's still in development last year? Not sure the hold up when the game runs on cellphones.
Yeah, my thoughts entirely. Glen
I wish there weren't so many repeated ones. Wish there were larger ones....they made them take a lot less pikmin to carry but buffed up oatchi to carry 100 when it's really not necessary? Only complaint really.
Nintendo dong what is does best, diverse and different games
With this being the forth instalment, its clear how good this series is
Nice work fellas in bringing the review
Great show and ALWAYS great content
❤I have all Pikmin games. THIS BY-FAR THE BEST, and cutest, and more fun then all. You have more fun things to do, extra crew doesn't get in the way, or no you must have this or your game ends. ❤❤❤ love love love it.
Oatchi is the best addition to the game
It feels very magical 🥹
This game looks fun. There's a demo but im too afraid to try it. I dont want to be addicted to it. 😂
This is the best pikmin game in the series def pick it up if you love pikmin
16/20 for controls is a joke. This is an rts for a console, the controls are an amazing accomplishment. Graphically, i have not seen anything id change, and it has not stuttered, i would have given that a perfect score as well. Not done yet, but think my goty is going to be pikmin or bg3
The auto aim-lock absolutely SUCKS
Rewind time sounds superb. I never beat 3 cause the final boss was too hard and also i had to use a guide to do many missions
Half a$$ing the co-op takes 15% off for me
This is not my type of game. But i liked the review.
Looks weird but fun. My rental copy from gamefly is on the way
I'm trying to decide if I should just jump to this one, or get Pikmin 3 Deluxe first and play through that.
Sounds weird but I'd start with the new one. 3 is sort of out of sync with the rest of the franchise. 4 is easier but more enjoyable.
I want to play the other games first, and now the whole series is on switch, tho i dont think pikmin is my cup of tea
they have free demos that give you a very good idea of the playstyle. I recommend that. If you do like the playstyle, then I wouldn't worry about doing them in order. They're not particularly story driven games. But that being said, each entry in the series has its own spin, so each one of them has aged very well and is worth playing
@@smitty7326 thanks for letting me know
@@yis8fire I happen to agree with the sentiment that the first game nailed the balance of urgency and gravitas of being stranded on an alien planet with limited time and resources so if you can get into the gameplay go for the first one to start, then pick whatever if you enjoyed it and want more content as the entries are independent of eachother.
The game of the year so far to me!
Absolutely adore the game. MUCH more content than expected.
Gyro features sold it for me 7:46
My biggest gripe is no online VS mode. It would be so fun.
I could only imagine how sweaty it would get if there was ranked dandori battle
Dandori battle with loui is too difficult and frustrating. I think i never get plat from it.
The start is anoying but by far my favourite pikmin so far
Looks wonderful, but I’ve discovered that the Pikmin series is not for me sadly.
Really enjoyed the demo
Oddly i think tinykin was more exciting to me than a repeat of same stuff
