They even acknowledge the concept in Pokemon Origins, it makes sense in an open world game to have gym leads use diff teams depending on your badge count or whatever progression. Then there is no defined order because it scales
@@froggy2597 they aren't going to do it since they still gonna get huge money without getting more employee anyways, and getting more employee means they gonna need to pay out more money
You could just pretend you have no badges for each of them and cheese your way into the league by having the easiest set of fights with all 8 gym leaders.
My biggest problem with the Pokémon company is that they literally don’t have to try anymore. Look how the fanboys defended rational complaints from Sword and Shield.
Worse than that, trying is not in the Pokemon companies best interest. If they made a truly 10/10 game, a massive leap forward for the series that redefined Pokemon as we know it they could never go back. They'd raise the standard of the series and things people let slide now wouldn't anymore.
Dexit makes even LESS sense with SV because of Home. All they'd have to do is move all of the Pokémon data to SV from SwSh and then add the new Pokémon + other Pokémon that got cut from SwSh. That would be what? 150-250 Pokémon they'd need to add data for? Most data which is already in USUM. I really don't get why Dexit is an excuse to release games quicker... a lot of Pokémon data is literally just a few KB per Pokémon.
It’s not just with Pokémon.. imo it’s with Nintendo itself.. Nintendo has gotten so greedy + lazy that even some of their other IP’s have taken a hit in quality (mainly it’s been Mario, with 3D allstars and the Mario Kart 8 DLC)
Exactly this. They know they can cut corners and still get record sales so they don't have to try or polish the product like they should. I hope the new games are good but none of the 3D games have been at the standard every other game series is held to so it's hard to still get hype.
I instantly knew Gen 9 is coming when Serebii announced that we are allowed to use two restricted legendaries in VGC. This has been always the sign of new generation is coming. Still Gen 9 should have been in 2023.
@@fatihzeyrek2069 I don’t consume garbage, if the game happens to be garbage I’ll skip it aswell and wait for a proper remake of gen 2 that has more heart and soul poured into it then gen 9. If the remakes of gen 2 happen to be dogshit like the gen 4 remakes then I’ll have to make the tough decision to skip it even if gen 2 is my favorite gen of all time and HGSS is my favorite remake of all time.
Glad you're back man. Seems like Pokemon is doing the whole "let's limit our marketing to 3 trailers and no other news" strategy again as we haven't seen anything new yet. I hope the game gets delayed but I know the company won't
Honestly, I don't give a fuck about gen 9. I'll reserve interest until the game is out. Gen 8 had basically killed all interest I had left in Pokémon and it took Legends Arceus (which I wasn't going to buy at first) to remind me why I love Pokémon so much. They had to get literal god to drag me back in.
@Mcheetah I can't quite get on board with all you've said because I did genuinely enjoy gen 6 and gen 7 despite their flaws and gen 5 is fantastic. I would happily go back and play those games over sword and shield any day.
@Mcheetah Personally, I've never really cared about the automatic Exp. Share, as it doesn't necessarily make the game easier, it just makes grinding less of a hassle. Grinding isn't difficult, it's just tedious. I do still agree that modern Pokémon games are way too damn easy, but rather than getting rid of the Exp. Share, they should just make the gym leaders use smarter strategies, such as having a benficial nature, Good EV spread, and possivly even a benficial held item.
@@nathanaldana6589 I’m the type of player who battles EVERY SINGLE NPC character I find in the overworld. By the Pokemon League in Brilliant Diamond my team was between level 65 and 70 which took the fun out of any challenging battles after the league, I’m actually bored as hell with Brilliant Diamond because in Platinum getting my team to level 100 took me a year, possibly a year and a half even. But in Brilliant Diamond my team got to level 100 within weeks and now I’m just bored as hell with nothing to do. I might restart Brilliant Diamond just for the sake of playing it all over again, but then what? Finish it again and be bored AGAIN?! No thanks.
I would be more hopeful if Scarlet and Violet had another year in the oven. Having it release so early, to me, goes far beyond what EA and Activision do. I just hope that someday, the rabid part of the fanbase will wake up and realize that they asked for The Pokémon Company to act like this.
I heard that Gamefreak has had a team working on gen 9 since Sword/Shield dropped. I dont think its rushed at all, in fact I think pla and bdsp are "proof of concepts" for gen 9 mechanics
@@Wackaz I had to check because I knew this wasn't the case and it looks like game releases were every 2 years, except platinum, HGSS, and BW in consecutive years, and BW2, XY, and ORAS in consecutive years. It's been yearly since Sun/Moon and now it's multiple per year.
@@yoso378 Ah yes, Platinum, HGSS, BW, and BW2 all released consecutively and all considered among the best Pokémon games ever made. GameFreak have their best games released consecutively; the problem isn't completely the time they take, but rather, the actual decisions they make.
It's tiring, really. There's no way anyone can use the "well they probably have been working on these games for years before they're even announced" excuse when games are coming out back to back to back now. I continue to only be able to hope that Scarlet and Violet are improvements to the mainline games. Also welcome back DK, it's been a while!
@Mcheetah Same here, SwSh was definitely my wake up call, and I haven't played another Pokemon game since then. Legends was a step in the right direction but it left a lot to be desired! I hate being so skeptical of a franchise I love but if they're not going to give it their best effort, I won't either.
I know right? Why couldn’t they focus on one game before focusing on another? Focusing on more than one game at a time makes development more troubled. *laughs in sonic 06 and sonic lost rings*
Glad you're back, this is actually the only Pokemon channel I have the bell turned on for. It will be a big win if they use the same capture mechanics as PLA. I'm very excited to be disappointed nonetheless.
I wish I still cared about pokemon, but swsh killed all my interest in such a momumental way I can't even bother. Tho I agree, things FINALLY look better. Hopefully the series starts to get on the right track, then maybe I'll be exited again around gen 12
The best "open world" function for pokemon was done in "The Origin" anime. When you go to a gym, the leader checks to see how many badges you have, and uses a completely different team depending on how many you have, thus letting all gyms simultaneously be both the easiest, and the hardest, with the only requirement being that you must beat all 8 to get to the E4. However, that requires brains, and masuda and ohmori don't have those, as was shown with Legends being so good, only because they didn't touch it. Personally, I didn't get Let's Go, and the announcement of the dex cut and the frothing deniers and defenders who just CONSOOM rendered all pokemon games basically dead to me. I will not be joining gen9. Besides, it's not like they will un-nerf steel. Gotta keep those waifu gardevoirs with shadow ball as top tier.
If anyone mentions anything about pokemon not being native to a region as a reason we can't have them all, let them know about legends giving us starters that are not native to the region, the space time distortions letting us catch pokemon not native to the region nor era, and ORAS having an even causing pokemon not native to Honen to become available all over honen for the rest of the game.
@@flysoup3607 Outside of Legends, game freak has given me no reason to like it at first trailer. They have a LOT to make up for before early reveal trailers make me excited for pokemon again. I'll be completely honest, and I've said this in multiple videos on multiple channels before but it bears repeating: While I have been a fan of Pokemon since the very beginning, they need to *SLOW DOWN* and take some time to work on their projects, give them some Polish and shine, and make it worthwhile. At the same time, we consumers need to be given time to actually enjoy our purchase, and be allowed to breathe a bit in between purchases. The first time I never purchased a Mainline Pokemon game was with sword and shield (dexit itself was not the issue it was the lies) however thinking back on that I probably also starting to experience Pokemon burnout.. my next purchase of Pokemon is Legends Arceus a choice I do not regret, however I do not enjoy Pokemon Bugged Diamond and Shipped early Pearl... if Pokemon would slow down and put more time and effort into each game I think that would definitely be preferable for all of us. And I'll be honest I'm worried about gen9 being another sword and shield or bdsp Fiasco... so I may not actually purchase it either.
Especially since they have 0 excuse for Dexit now. I mean, they didn't have an excuse in the FIRST place, but they really don't have one now... why cut Pokémon from SwSh in SV? They're already ON the Switch and it makes no sense to just get rid of transferring Pokémon because of a lame deadline excuse.
As soon as I saw that "late 2022" release date, I knew this was going to be another christmas rush job. I doubt there's going to be any substantial improvement over gen 8. I'd like to be wrong, but gamefreak hasn't put out anything to make feel any other way than pessimistic.
After the train wreck that was Sword and Shield, I'm keeping my expectations very low. The starters and the updated graphics on Magnemite and Seviper look great, but I doubt that it will be much different from Sword and Shield in terms of story or gameplay, especially when it releases so soon after BDSP and Legends. At best we're getting similar gameplay to Legends.
I think the big difference is that this game will be open world as opposed to just having one open area. SWSH's problem was that it was basically a vanilla Pokemon experience outside of the wild area which was made all the more controversial after the cut started happening
I love how you deal with critiquing pokémon because you aren’t afraid to say what’s bad, but you still acknowledge what they’re doing right so it doesn’t turn into the mindless praise that other pokétubers give games just with criticisms instead
I just get my Pokemon fix out of your videos now, after the implosion of the franchise in 2019 I just left out of the fandom and started playing other RPGs. I'm now simply a bystander looking in on the state of things here.
I'm really not optimistic for Scarlet and Violet. I haven't gotten Legends: Arceus yet, but I plan to in the future. But even looking at the two/three other Pokemon games that came out, there are some aspects that still felt subpar. From what I've gathered, Legends fared much better and is a breath of fresh air for the series. Meanwhile BDSP came out as nothing special and definitely not something worth shelling out $90 CAD for when it doesn't even have the Platinum content. I get that the company wants to make as much money as possible by releasing multiple games a year, but I hate that quality has to be sacrificed for it. Maybe I'll be able to buy Legends used somewhere so Gamefreak doesn't get any more of my money.
@@aldoushuxley5953 I do agree that Legends has been the best Pokemon game to release this year, thus why I still want to play it eventually. One of the only things I found subpar were the visuals, but from what I can tell the gameplay made up for it. I still don't want to support Gamefreak, but with how successful the game was my contribution may as well be a drop in the bucket
Legends Arceus is easily the best Pokémon game in 5+ years but it seems too soon for Gen 9. Especially with all the other big games releasing this year, 2023 feels like the perfect time for the next Gen.
@@thelegacyofgaming2928 think about it this way the Pokémon company at this point is rushing out unfinished games look at sword and shield and bdsp they have to make a deadline and have to put a game out no matter how bad it is even if it’s glitch city and a complete broken mess like bdsp the Pokémon company wants peoples money and will do anything to get it so to meet the deadline and to release a game they changed around the dates and released an unfinished product to satisfy people hopefully Scarlet and Violet don’t have any issues or problems at all
They have shown basically nothing so far, but I have some hope that the pokémons might actually look great seeing what they did with Magnemite and Seviper, if they do and they have a decent gimmik this time I might buy it, I'll definetly get it if my local Gamestop does the bring 2 Switch games for one free, to bring in my BD copy, I honestly don't remember the last time I bought a Pokémon game without finishing it before BD

@@ProtoBrown they probably meant by souless on how open the region is and how there’s not many people and Pokémon in a area making it feel soulless and unrealistic unlike in other Pokémon entries
as someone who adores legends arceus (just finished the main storyline), yeah i can concur. flying around with braviary and seeing entire chunks of terrain drastically change in their geometry, indicating that polishing came very late and was very rushed for something as important as the ground you walk on, really was a let down. my playthru was plagued by graphical bugs and texturing issues, and for how much i adore the changes to the main gameplay loop and combat, its so hard to ignore the many ways it just looks unfinished. in addition i never really felt like any of the npcs got the focus and attention they deserved, making it hard to really care about most of the wardens, and characters like zisu get next to no dialogue whatsoever despite showing up at the final battle on spear pillar. for a game thats clearly trying to focus more on its story, it rly feels like they dropped the ball on most npcs beyond laventon, volo, and cyllene
Nintendo/Pokemon Company's repeating the exact same mistake Nintendo made with the mainline Mario games back in 2009-2013, where they kept releasing a mainline game every single year, & even released two NSMB games in a single year in 2012, causing some people to get sick of Mario platformers during the beginning of the Wii U era. It wasn't until 2014 where Nintendo finally decided to give the mainline Mario games a break up until 2017 when Odyssey came out. Hell they even made a joke about it during that Robot Chicken Sketch at Nintendo's E3 2014 Digital Event. Here's hoping Nintendo/Pokemon Company gives Pokemon a break once Gen 9 comes out.
So, the difference is that Mario is and always has been, about making video games that sell. The Pokemon Company is, unfortunately, NOT a game company at its core. It's a toy company. There's a reason that Pokemon is the biggest IP in the world. The games only have to do 2 things- come out every (or every other) year, and have new pokemon in them. The Pokemon company makes MOST of its money on the toys, the action figures, the plushies, the anime, and the card game. The games are just a backdrop for merch. You have to stop thinking like a human being that cares about pokemon and the IP, and start thinking like a robot that counts dollar signs and NOTHING else. You may be tempted to say that making a great game will lead to more toy sales, but that is not true. Making 10 mediocre games will always lead to more sales than 1 really good one. Mario needs its games to be good and well beloved so they sell well and keep a good image. Pokemon needs to have new toys to sell every year or they lose massive amounts of money. This is why pokemon will never take a break.
@@LunatheMoonDragon Thats a very good point ive never thought about. Its no wonder theres basically almost never a bad or mediocre mario game (atleast first party, we dont talk about shit like hotel mario lmao) while for pokemon its pretty much the opposite, its just garbage after garbage, the games are just an excuse to sell more shit, quality literally doesnt matter they just need new pokemon to sell more stuff, while on mario they're worried about making a game thats actually fun to play.
One of the things I liked about Scott Cawthon was that he knew when to step down from fnaf and he left the series to fans and studios he knew were passionate about their work, I wish gamefreak did something like that
Although Scott did leave shortly after an attack campaign on him for supporting his political beliefs. I still think his stepping down was planned and that incident was the last straw for him. TPC is probably not stepping out of pokemon anytime soon.
Well some fan made games are better then some of the recent mainline games,so yeah,if game freak would care about pokemon, they should stop the releases and give it to the fans. The problem is that pokemon isn't an indie franchise,it's a pretty big one(anime, merchandise,TGC,games, etc) so they can't and they won't do that cause they are just milking their dying golden cow.
They won't. Pokemon is their cash cow. Its a cash cow thats starting to die since they are clearly running out of ideas, but a cash cow none the less. We can always hope, wish, and pray that somehow the franchise tanks though and that it will fall into the hands of fans who will treat it with care. Lol
They tried, and Pokémon lover dragged them back. Little Town Hero? lol flopped Harmoknight? Good, but you probably never heard of it since it released. Pocket Card Jockey? lmao Game Freak was always good at making games, but they've boxed themselves in like Sonic Team. The Pokémon Company should branch out, for the sake of its brand's survival.
I think that the grass could look good if they build the game around this graphic style. Something even more cartonish could work for pokémon so when they orientate themselves on their old titles they could pull sth off
if I could, I would look the CEO of TPCi in the face and ask him one simple question: Who asked for yearly releases? Who asked for a game 10 months after your previous one?
_"DistantKingdom is just toxic and negative!"_ DistantKingdom: _Clearly being overall positive and hopeful in this video despite being critical_ I'm personally not very hopeful for this game. So much of the recent entries have sucked so far and Legends Arceus isn't that impressive. @@pingug7531 Ironically, those "recolors" actually had their own personality, stats distribution, abilities, and even an entire overhaul in the side games, such as Blasters and Busters.
Spain is actually a 5head move for Gamefreak, since they can have empty wastelands of nothing inbetween points of interest (cities) scattered around. The big city is in the middle, forming a great base of operations for an open-world exploration type game, and many of the notable cities are on the coast, meaning that you could stuff lots of collectibles (pokemon) in them. There are also a number of mountain ranges in Spain that could be used to funnel players into certain areas at certain points, depending on the starting location.
Remember when mainline Pokémon games let you EXPLORE mountains? The whole point of Sinnoh was the giant mountain that cut the north from the south. Imagine if they made Galar back in Gen 4. There's no WAY we wouldn't have been able to explore more of the map.
Check out the new trailer! They went a step forward then two back, the Pokémon attacks don't connect anymore, the battle mechanics are the same as Sword and shield and the no voice acting is just ufff, this series is just evolving backwards
If I learned anything from the SwSh prerelease stuff they basically hardly change anything and what you see is what you get. There's A LOT of rough patches in the Scarlet and Violet trailer and I just can't see past those shortcomings. I mean, why would they willingly show off a windmill in the background and NOT hide the choppy animation it has? People keep praising how good the Pokemon look, but the instant you look away from all of the fancy stuff and the environment around them... Yikes, it looks like one of the beta builds from Breath of the Wild. Btw, and I've been meaning to ask you this but never got the chance to, have you seen SomeOrdinaryGamers' and AcousticHarmonia's takes on Legends Arceus? They pretty much hit the nail on the head about the game and the franchise moving forward.
I'm actually in Harmonia's server. While, I personally agree with some of the stuff went over his head. For example, the mythology surrounding Volos people and the DP Clans basically reinforced his motivations or critiquing that there isn't any breeding in a period where most people have prejudice against Pokemon is a little silly
inb4 "We couldn't update every single Pokemon's quality so they're not all in the game." again. Amazing how they can't spend an hour updating grass texture. It's not like they're going to use grass in every single Pokemon game... right?
I swear, it feels like SwSh and BDSP were made by interns who got to practice before making LA/Gen 5 remakes. LA would have been a better time to teach people to code instead of the first game in a generation... it feels like every 3rd game we get will be slightly above mediocre, while the rest will be so way below it, it makes B2W2 look like game of the decade.
The Gen 9 trailer felt underwhelming to me. They didn't even reveal the Region name unlike Gen 8. To me that's a sign that Game Freak is hiding something about the game if they don't even reveal the region's name.
@@hereskyubi3333 pokemon dont usually reveal info until June. Dynamax wasn't even revealed till June 5th. So luckily for us, we should expect news somewhere next week.
One of the things I hope they get right are towns. A staple of RPGs is that keep the player engrossed with the game world, this is one of the areas modern Pokémon games lack. Case & point Heliodor from Dragon Quest XI (a game that almost four years ago), the first major town the player visited, and it was a million times better than anything Pokémon gave us in S&S. It was an impressive display of the game's capability it had levels, buildings to explore, and npcs that gave you interesting world lore. Sorry if this was long, I'm just saying something like that is just something the highest grossing game franchise should meet.
As much as I enjoyed Legends Arceus, I'm not really going crazy for Scarlet and Violet and could probably care less for it. Another year in the oven would have been desirable not just for polishing the game but also for having more time in between releases so fans don't feel fatigued after the last game
This video was never put in my subscription feed and I only just found it today when I went to see why you hadn't uploaded in a while. Thanks for the content!
I didn't think about it till now but, something tells me theirs alot of crunch happening at the pokemon company. To be able to pump all these games out.
My concern is that we’re gonna start seeing subscription paywalls when it comes to something like mega evolution or even the National dex. In my opinion, the removal of these features was calculated from the start..
Just imagine fighting the "8th gym" leader first, and they have weaker pokemon like shown in the anime. And the "1st gym" has strong pokemon when you fight it last. Just imagine all the speedrunning strats, the routes you have to take to be optimal. Or alternatively, the route that would be easiest to beat the final teams of. Choices. I shouldn't fill my head with empty fantasies, but one can dream (or play fangames).
Honestly... After buying and playing almost every Pokémon game on the switch... Sword & Shield, Legends Arceus and especially BDSP. After finishing them I felt griefed and bad for buying it. I won't buy those games. Don't want to make the same mistake again and be disappointed again later.
DK, Im from Spain so I can help in the "inspiration" part of the video. Representative Cities or places of Spain that could be representated in the game: -Toledo: a medieval city surrounded by a river only accesible by four Bridges (one per direction North, south, east, west). Most representative building: The Alcazar. -Valencia: the city of art and science. A seaside city with skycrapers, hotels and the museum of arts and science; a futuristic and very beautiful museum. -Barcelona: is the city that we can see in the trailer. -Madrid: the capital. Skycrapers, more skycrapers and thats it. -Vasque Country: is the swamp area that we can see in the trailer. If represented as a city, it will probably be a industrial city. -Murcia: the desert from the trailer. -The pyrenees: the ice mountain that we can see behind Barcelona in the trailer. -Burgos and altamira: places full of fosiles.
Heey Distant. Could we perhaps see you cover the game 'Coromon' at some point? It's a monster capture game in a pleasing pixelart style which harkens back to the earlier Pokemon Generations before the games went 3D. It's currently available on Steam, but in the future it will also come to the Nintendo Switch and mobile (no date known yet). I personally haven't gotten too far yet into Coromon (maybe I'm halfway through?), but all that I've experienced up until now has been a joy for me.
I won't buy them until I get confirmation that you can be a ginger. Friendly reminder that you were allowed to be ginger in X/Y, but they REMOVED the option from Sun/Moon, despite having more hair colours overall. You have never been allowed to be ginger again in a main series game, even though characters like Sonya are right there in the main story. Orange is the ONLY hair colour that has ever been removed. I just want my character to be able to look like me. (You were finally allowed to be ginger in Legends Arceus, however you don't unlock it until the THIRD, yes THIRD hair colour set that you get more than halfway through the game. All the other natural hair colours are available at the beginning.)
This is kinda like how they only ever have the same skin tones and out of the ones available they are either too dark or too light. Incredibly irritating when lots of NPCs have the exact tone I want lol
Wait did Masuda really say by cutting the national dex they’ll be able to release more Pokémon games more frequently? Oh no that’s a terrifying idea and here I was thinking legends Arcues restored some of my faith and trust in Pokémon and Gamefreak. As for scarlet and violet I’m cautiously optimistic but won’t buy it day one that’s for sure
That doesn't even make any sense either. Why would cutting out Pokémon already IN Home and SwSh make finishing SV faster? Most Pokémon data is literally just a few MB per Pokémon (including models, textures, movesets etc...) so how would that slow ANYTHING down? What, do their computers transfer data really slowly? Are they using USB 1.0 or something? Heck, they may as well make more BS excuses like how it takes too long to make new Pokémon, so the only new ones are the starters and box legendaries, while the rest are DLC.
@@YujiUedaFan I think it has to do with the animations and models for the Pokémon and monsters and of course you need to worry about their level up moves, stats ect do keep in mind I’m not making any excuses for them but it does allows them to finish the games faster and allows for more polish with that said I just wish they go back to 4 years cycle between generations
@@YujiUedaFan They got problems with the models like shiny Pokémon are still somehow different models when it’s a recolor of the same Pokémon and each game they gotta update the same models but it doesn’t excuse them to not include all Pokémon. @@nazeersadek6705 How would it change anything? They can just keep the same movesets for Pokémon not native to SV. Tutor and TM moves shouldn't even be a big deal either, since they can just copy the moves Pokémon normally learn. They don't have to re-invent the wheel each time and instead just paste down work they've already done. Additionally, they could have dedicated staff members who deal with moveset changes for non-native Pokémon. Why would that be too much hassle for such a big company? As for animations, they've been using the same animations since XY. The ONLY time they change animations is for regional forms or occasionally the idle animations. LA did improve on other animations, but I doubt they'll carry over TBH.
Remember when Pokemon could hold off on new mainline games by licensing the franchise off to other companies to make other types of games to pad out the Generation, allowing TPCi to make money while giving GamefrEAk more time to work on the more important games, which give the other companies more material to make their spinoffs with to buy more time for GamefrEAk to keep the loop going?
Watching you from Spain lol, the enviroments look very nice and i'm excited about what references or inspiration based on my country will be present in the game.
I feel like a big problem with Pokemon actually trying and making a game with proper effort put into it is that it raises people's expectations for the next game, it'd essentially give people a taste of the potential Pokemon actually has and after that they won't be able to settle for mediocre anymore. Or at least it's a problem from a business point of view, but I much prefer looking at games as an art form more than a business thing. But of course I don't expect the Pokemon company to see it as an art form, they've already proven that they don't really see it as such time and time again. From my knowledge Pokemon has no reason to actually progress the series from a business point of view, so I don't expect them to change. Or at least, I didn't expect them to change until Pokemon Legends. Pokemon Legends kind of changes my point of view and confused me in a way. Sure, I was happy they were finally progressing the series, but I couldn't see any reason why they'd want to from a business perspective. Pokemon Sword and Shield sold like crazy despite the hate, why did they choose to change the formula up now? I mean, this was just a spin off game, so perhaps it was just for them to test the waters with an idea. I mean, Pokemon Legends was still a very flawed game, much more flawed than I think a lot of people were willing to admit, but I can't deny that it's definitely a step in the right direction, and it certainly has a lot of really great improvements and unique stuff. This game really did feel like Pokemon testing the waters for new stuff, and it left me optimistic for future games. Now with gen 9, I honestly don't know what to think about this game. It's open world? Like, ACTUALLY open world?? I'm unsure how they'd go about having an actual open world Pokemon game. I'm still scared that it's not actually going to be all that open world and they'll still be quite hand holdy, I mean Pokemon is infamous for being hand holdy. In my personal opinion I think there's two possibilities for gen 9: Either it could be an awfully mediocre game that adds little to nothing for the series like gen 8 was, or it could be a rather flawed game but take the series in a great and interesting new direction, sort of like an expanded version of Pokemon Legends. In my opinion the series should've gone in a new direction a long time ago, but better late than never. Sorry for the long comment, this was originally supposed to be a short comment but I got caught up in my thoughts and now it's a whole freaking essay.
One thing I always wanted with characters is imagine they just had a "default family" you could pick from and depending on your age/gender you could pick the child or the parent (even a grandparent maybe?) and slightly modify the intro to match. My parents and I play Pokemon and have for a long time, we'd like to be a bit older lol Pretty bummed we won't have Arceus style catching but I hope they keep other features
After being told that it's my fault for being upset that I needed to buy 2 other Pokemon games in order to complete the Hisuian Pokedex in Pokemon Legends: Arceus (which is the point of the fucking game, btw), I think I'm done with newer Pokemon games, too. Yes, I know those extra Pokemon don't count towards the in-game Pokedex, that's fucking stupid; those Pokemon are in the _Sinnoh Pokedex,_ which is what Hisui is based on. I am aware that those Pokemon were only available due to events and fucking stupid game cards you'd get from your local store back when Gen 4 came out, that's _also_ fucking stupid. They aren't even completing the national dex for gen 8! We just got the home update and already the tepig line is now confirmed to be homeless this generation due to NO Gen 8 game allowing them to be transferred in. We may need gen 9 to flop to serve as a warning siren to the pokemon company since they already ignored the wake up call, #bringbacknationaldex
Says a lot, doesn't it? Generation 3: Made extra games and areas in remakes so that you could complete the dex (sans event pokemon) in one generation. Generation 4: Did the same thing, but not as far. You still had to transfer but there was hardware for that and a global trade station. Gen 5: Same as gen 4. Gen 6: Every pokemon could be captured in this generation across 4 games. Gen 7+: "I'm sorry what? Old pokemon? Those don't exist. Now pay to keep them in your prison or I will delete them forever."
My Pokémon fatigue was lightened by pla. Even if everyone doesn’t like it. It was a breath of fresh air with the nice animation beautiful landscape sure it had pop in. But I really enjoyed it unlike swsh
One of the reasons why I loved Pokemon Snap was because it was made by the same company behind Digimon. You can see love and care poured into it, unlike most of the recent ones by GF.
I came back to this vid cause I've been having a very different playthrough of Scarlet. So when I first played the game, I followed the typical pokemon game playthrough, and got over leveled very fast by doing so. And I think that's the problem: Scarlet is actually an open world game, especially with the dlc that you can access right away. And I did that on my second playthrough: I went to Kitakami when my highest lvl was 11, and the rest was lvl 8, and got completely destroyed. You can actually play the game freely like an open world game, but people have been conditioned to play it linear cause that's what Pokemon games were for 25 years. But Scarlet & Violet being the first actual open world game, it actually plays like one, and you can play it like that. And the difficulty will be very difficult if you want it to be: Carmine almost destroyed my team, and Kirian actually defeated me when I first arrived at Kitakami with my route 1 pokemon. In addition: the pokemon's lvl scale to your lvl. So Carmine & Kieran still managed to destroy me despite their own pokemon being around lvl 12.
They using the same engine as sword and shield didn't even bother adding voice acting even Zelda has voice acting and that franchise is even older than Pokemon the battle animation is the same nothing changed and as long as people still buys the games nothing will change.
I think that the pokemon type chart needs another look. Types like normal, psychic, bug and rock are often outclassed by better types. I dont think that all types should be equal, but at least have a distinct niche.
I look forward to your Legends Arceus review. for me personally, it was the most fun I've had in a Pokemon game since Gen 5. 6,7 and 8 were tepid at best. The world felt to fragmented. This was especially noticeable in ORAS (RSE remakes). Go to a new part of a route: Fade to black screen transition, new town/city, screen transition. The entire region felt like Castelia city in Black and White. The games did not connect with me at all. BDSP despite it's flaws did cuz they were gen 4, 1:1 remakes and Platinum is still better IMO.
Ah yes, the "Indie game studio", with over 160 people, the highest-grossing media franchise in the world, funded by the pokemon company which got exclusive rights to publish their games and nintendo to release them on their consoles exclusively, called Game Freak...
Capcom has faced their own fatigue with their own beloved brand, Megaman, until the series is practically dead now. Back then Megaman was being released with spinoff after spinoff until the games end up competing against each other and people were burnt out. This lead to sales going down until Capcom dropped the series entirely until a few years ago when MM11 released along with numerous legacy collections. Although at the moment it feels like Capcom is not giving Megaman any attention again.
I want to believe Scarlet and Violet can be good. But I can’t help but be concerned because of the fact that it’s an open world game being released a mere two years after the disaster that was Sword and Shield, and the very same year as PLA.
Honestly it's pretty sad that I get more enjoyment from playing Pixelmon in MC than actually playing the mainline titles. It's sad that I have to resort to a (pretty damn good) fan mod to enjoy something that the actual team behind the franchise can't be bothered to do Also any pokemon fans who own minecraft java ver NEED to play pixelmon. It's essentially what the penultimate pokemon game could be by using the open world concept of mc and fluidly incorporating the established mechanics of pkmn in it!
They will need to show some real fire to bring me back to the series. I'm way over the predatory practices of making two versions with the only differences really being exclusive mons. Sure you can get them via trade or friends but why should I have to rely on others period to complete my game?
Pokémon games haven't been good in a while, there's no effort, passion or dedication put into them. From Software and Elden Ring are a good example of how amazing games can be when the developers love making them
they can't keep getting away with graphics this bad in 2022 i get it, graphics arn't gameplay but they are part of the overall experience and feel of the game, and i hope they fix the graphics and make the game look better than arceus did
I dont think scarlet and violet is gonna go back to the old catching system. I know the SV website says "battle to catch pokemon", but I dont think that means you cant catch them in the overworld.
Yeah, I also hope that the statement from the site is jus oversimplification of whole mechanics. We didn’t get basically any video of the gameplay and mechanics for open world game should have many aspects that keeps it interesting. From the ways of transportation, crafting, exploring, battling and catching. If it’s gonna be like SWSH where you could only travel from one point of interest to another, catch Pokémon and collect berries, it’s gonna be a massive disappointment and I want to believe that gamefreak is aware of this.
I feel the need to write down a crazy idea: Randomly Generated Gyms Think about it. Each type has a gym prepared for it, and when you start a new save file, eight types are randomly selected and placed throughout the region. Combined with the ability to challenge the gyms in any order, this basically means that no two playthroughs will be the same. You and a friend playing together might roll up to a town, but while they have an ice type gym, you're up against a dark type gym. Thoughts?
@@melvint-p9500 nah. Anybody who was paying attention to the hype cycle knows that Legends was pretty contentious leading up until release but that really changed after the leaking started happening. I've said it before, I'll say it again: They have set up a system where Generations 1-7 will be permanently cut off. I will never return to them unless that is remedied. And even then, their offerings in recent years are still far removed from what they should be doing.

THE KING IS BACK! I was waiting for you to talk about this. It's worrying that they are releasing THREE Pokemo games in less than one year. That's outright crucnh and TPC should be ashamed (and Nintendo to an extent) I mean, it isn't even one full month since Legends was released and now they announce Scarlette and Violet. the game looks pretty tho.
I said gen 9 was too much too soon and people bashed me online. We just got 2 RPGs calm down. We don't need another one so soon. I thought yearly releases were bad but this takes the cake. I can't be hyped for gen 9. I'm already sick of Pokémon for the time being and want to play soemthing else. Another genre even. 2 RPG per year, any series combined, is more than enough. Playing more than that ends up making them feel like a chore to me.
Hi, distantkingdom, great to see you back :) Honestly I’m worried for gen 9. After the release of legends arceus, I was hoping for another pokemon game not to be released until at LEAST 2023 or 2024, preferably the latter. Unfortunately, TPC’s crunching antics have struck GF once again, forcing them to pump out another yearly pokemon title. I honestly can’t help but feel bad about the employees at GF, they seem capable of doing so much more, but are being controlled terribly by the monstrosity that is the TPC. As for the looks of gen 9, the graphics are an improvement, but still far behind. The switch pokemon games went from looking like gamecube games to wii games. The textures on the pokemon look great, but that’s about it. The character designs are also lackluster like you said. Honestly tho, I don’t like the new starter designs, they look much like fanmades instead. Sadly I doubt gen 9 will be any good. I was hopeful after the release of legends arceus, as that game was a huge improvement over SWSH and BDSP, but pokemon still can’t break away from yearly releases. And to think one release every year was bad enough…
I hate to say this, but we need Scarlet and Violet to fail, or at least do bad by pokemon's standards to wake up game freak and the pokemon company, possibly Nintendo too.

We're literally doing this in a DS rom hack based off HGSS.
If we can edit such an old game to this degree, I'm amazed they haven't yet.
My biggest problem with the Pokémon company is that they literally don’t have to try anymore. Look how the fanboys defended rational complaints from Sword and Shield.
People will settle more for less

BDSP was developed by ILCA so I have some hope
Arceus I understand but BDSP was developed by ILCA and was basically a remaster so little work there beyond graphics.

We're never gonna get a joke like that again.

Harmoknight? Good, but you probably never heard of it since it released.

Game Freak was always good at making games, but they've boxed themselves in like Sonic Team.

Spain is actually a 5head move for Gamefreak, since they can have empty wastelands of nothing inbetween points of interest (cities) scattered around. The big city is in the middle, forming a great base of operations for an open-world exploration type game, and many of the notable cities are on the coast, meaning that you could stuff lots of collectibles (pokemon) in them. There are also a number of mountain ranges in Spain that could be used to funnel players into certain areas at certain points, depending on the starting location.
5head for Gamefreak since they have an excuse to make the map nearly empty and lifeless. Great way to cut corners and rake in the profits.

For example, the mythology surrounding Volos people and the DP Clans basically reinforced his motivations or critiquing that there isn't any breeding in a period where most people have prejudice against Pokemon is a little silly

And they failed in that regard. :/
As much as I enjoyed Legends Arceus, I'm not really going crazy for Scarlet and Violet and could probably care less for it. DK, Im from Spain so I can help in the "inspiration" part of the video. Representative Cities or places of Spain that could be representated in the game:
-Toledo: a medieval city surrounded by a river only accesible by four Bridges (one per direction North, south, east, west).

As for scarlet and violet I’m cautiously optimistic but won’t buy it day one that’s for sure
I’m glad I skipped these games because of the Dexcuts they keep doing for no actual reason.

@@nazeersadek6705 How would it change anything? They can just keep the same movesets for Pokémon not native to SV.

"The games are _not_ being rushed!"
Three games within a year's time is keeping up pace with Fnaf's release schedule!
Gen 9 has the coolest looking starters since gen 4.
Yes, I know those extra Pokemon don't count towards the in-game Pokedex, that's fucking stupid; those Pokemon are in the _Sinnoh Pokedex,_ which is what Hisui is based on. My Pokémon fatigue was lightened by pla. Even if everyone doesn’t like it. It was a breath of fresh air with the nice animation beautiful landscape sure it had pop in. But I really enjoyed it unlike swsh
Unless Pokemon has help from an actual competent company I'm not to hopeful for these games. Also glad to see you're back man.
As a Spaniard I'll say they've done a good job representing us so far. I knew it was Spain almost immediately in the reveal.
In my personal opinion, I'd rather have one solidly good pokemon entry per year rather than the risk of 3 varying degrees of quality games per year.
Pokemon just need to take a good 2 or 3 years off honestly
Capcom has faced their own fatigue with their own beloved brand, Megaman, until the series is practically dead now. Back then Megaman was being released with spinoff after spinoff until the games end up competing against each other and people were burnt out. This lead to sales going down until Capcom dropped the series entirely until a few years ago when MM11 released along with numerous legacy collections. Although at the moment it feels like Capcom is not giving Megaman any attention again.
Funny you say that, considering they announced a new Legacy Collection recently!
^o^
Gen 9 graphics still look god-awful. Dare I say worse than sword and shield in some instances
It's sad that I have to resort to a (pretty damn good) fan mod to enjoy something that the actual team behind the franchise can't be bothered to do
Also any pokemon fans who own minecraft java ver NEED to play pixelmon. It's essentially what the penultimate pokemon game could be by using the open world concept of mc and fluidly incorporating the established mechanics of pkmn in it!
The marketing cycle has every bit to do with the fatigue too as well as how fast these things come out
They will need to show some real fire to bring me back to the series. I'm way over the predatory practices of making two versions with the only differences really being exclusive mons. Sure you can get them via trade or friends but why should I have to rely on others period to complete my game?
Pokémon games haven't been good in a while, there's no effort, passion or dedication put into them. From Software and Elden Ring are a good example of how amazing games can be when the developers love making them
they can't keep getting away with graphics this bad in 2022
i get it, graphics arn't gameplay but they are part of the overall experience and feel of the game, and i hope they fix the graphics and make the game look better than arceus did
Great to see you back, my man
I dont think scarlet and violet is gonna go back to the old catching system.
I feel the need to write down a crazy idea: Randomly Generated Gyms
Think about it.
Thoughts?

I was waiting for you to talk about this. It's worrying that they are releasing THREE Pokemo games in less than one year. That's outright crucnh and TPC should be ashamed (and Nintendo to an extent)
I mean, it isn't even one full month since Legends was released and now they announce Scarlette and Violet. the game looks pretty tho.
Hi, distantkingdom, great to see you back :)
Honestly I’m worried for gen 9.

I’m so sick of these half steps forward and full steps backwards . I’m sick of the traditions of having gym leaders at all , I’m sick of the mono type gym teams , I’m sick of the bad graphics and the same engine being used since gen 6 . I’m sick of the starters being so prominent , I’m sick of them of the starters being the same 3 types . I’m sick of the shitty map designs and useless space , I’m sick of the lack of the polish being so obvious . I’m sick of Pokémon
As an Italian, I'm happy to hear people outside of Italy liked Xenoverse
I skipped the diamond remake and still haven't played legends. honestly I very much feel the fatigue.
if it has the national Dex then Ill pick it up for sure
