I read this in the book of Daniel. The Babylonian’s are taken over by the medo-Persian, then Alexander the Great, and then comes the Roman Empire. Happy Hanukkah to all the Jewish people, our brothers & sisters in the Lord.
I wouldn't say Greece is an "artifact in history text books". Its a language and people live on. And its darkness, having been illuminated by the God of Israel, was itself transformed into light. And so its idolatry is gone, but its philosophy beget modern science, and ethics, and thus became a genuine source of divine illumination for the nations.
Ancient Greece (the Empire) is gone, and that is obviously the thing referred to. Yes the modern state of Greece exists and Greek is spoken there. Not really the same thing. Kind of how like the modern country of France exists, and they still speak French... but obviously we all know that the once-powerful Kingdom of France no longer exists. Except that the ancient Greek Empire was much bigger, more powerful, and lasted longer. And yet - now they are gone.
@stephaniefogelvik4756 If that is the standard then the same could be said of the ancient kingdoms of Israel and Judea, they are gone just as much as the Greek empire and kingdoms.
@stephaniefogelvik4756 The same can be said of the ancient kingdoms of Israel and Judea they're no less gone than the ancient Greek empires and kingdoms.
The Greek culture preserves & on a limited basis continues. However, the Greeks did not suffer the diaspora as the Jews did, nor did they suffer prejudice over the millenia as the Jews have. The Bibe says that, G-d will reward you in proportion to your suffering. This video takes nothing away from the Greeks. Instead of becoming defensive, study history.
@@highpointadvisors9314 I'm not defensive. I'm a frum Yid, not Greek. But I think you are the one who should 'learn history'. Greeks have one of the largest diasporas in the world, and were subjugated and horribly persecuted by the ottomans for 600 years. Also Greek culture doesn't just survive "on a limited basis" it is one one of the pillars of Western civilization, and their importance was acknowledged by no less then the Rambam himself. The Greeks represented a fundamentally different enemy than other enemies of the Jews. As the Rebbe said in one of his Maamarim on Chanukah, the menorah lights have the effect of not only illuminating the darkness, but rather transforming the darkness into a source of light itself. I think this is the mystery of the Chanukah story, and the historical/spiritual encounter between the ethical monotheism of the Jews and the rationale philosophy of the Greeks. By itself science and philosophy without any moral constraints can be, and has been, a source of war, exploitation, and oppression. Only when it is illuminated by the light of Devine law & ethical monotheism it is transformed into a source of blessing. The modern world and everything good in it is the result of this encounter and synthesis. In that sense both Jews and Greeks were chosen to illuminate the world.

Nobody tried to destroy you. That's the Jewish delusion. If Germany had tried they'd be very few, if any Jews left anywhere in Europe. If Rome had tried, they would have succeeded. Greece and Persia didn't bother, Judah was an unimportant outpost of no significant interest. Israel was never an empire or a great nation, it was a backwater between nations with next to nothing to offer, except a troublesome, rebellious population.
Yes. Morality. Despite your self-selecting, willfully misguided perception, that was the gift of the Jews to the world. That is the Torah and its Writings.
