From my understanding, the reason that Two-Face was never part of the '60s show was because the producers thought he was too gruesome a character for a family series. Apparently one of the ideas was to have him as a news reporter who became Two Face when a television exploded in his face, and the plan was have none other than Clint Eastwood playing him!
I heard something similar, about Clint Eastwood playing the TV reporter who becomes Two-Face. It was supposed to be an episode for Season 4, but the show was cancelled at the end of Season 3.
Another reason I heard actually came from Tommy Lee Jones, who played Two-Face in "Batman Forever". He said that it took him two hours in the makeup chair every morning, getting half his face covered with pieces of acid looking material and two hours to remove it.. Well, if they needed to do this in the late 90s, imagine how long it would take in the 60s to apply Two-Face make up to someone.
@@BATMAN-gh1nfThe show actually got picked up for Season 4 by another TV station. However, before this announcement, someone binned the "Batman" sets since it had been axed, and because the new station didn't want to pay to replace the sets, they just scrapped doing a 4th season and "Batman" remained axed.
Not A Doctor I bet you're wondering, which side will the coin land on? Tell you the truth even I don't know, all chance. So call it, there's one thing you should be wondering. Do you feel lucky? Well, do ya? Batman?
I know that the main reason for why they canned the Two-Face episode is that they thought that kids would find him too scary. You can really understand this when you consider that Clint Eastwood was originally planned to play the role of Two-Face. They actually also wanted The Scarecrow on the show too, but scrapped it for pretty much the same reason: too scary.
I'd like to see Leonard Nimoy in the role of Two-Face. 1) His long jaw fits the role. 2) his reputation simultaneously playing Spock, a logical character, 3) he's capable of both dramatic and controlled acting.
+Commander of Doom It's comfortable, but CRAPPY. I had to make a custom suit for my Green Lantern review. lol ruclips.net/video/p7yPCibaUUM/видео.htmlm52s
I realize that William Shatner will be providing the voice of Two-Face in the upcoming animated movie, but I also think that Shatner would have done well with the live-action role back in the 1960's. He was a well-known actor at the time, and he gives different amounts of "over-the-top" performances that will work well for multiple personalities.
+Josh Thomas They actually point out in The Batman Handbook that a changing room between the mansion and the cave would be essential, if for no other reason than to break up the acceleration that would occur in a single, continuous bat-pole. lol
Whenever I watched the show as a kid I was disappointed at the fact that Two-Face never showed up because he was one of my favorite villains, this comic was a dream come true and I hope that in an alternate universe, someone got to enjoy this episode!
I would say Alex Ross carefully made it look like like he wasn’t being carefull. An actual Jackson Pollock style painting would just look flat , but the splatter on that couch actually follows the bend of the different sides of the couch.
Potential awkward situations: given that this is the 60s Batman, candidates could include: Joker covering the floor in marbles, Mr Freeze covering the floor in ice, Penguin using a trick umbrella to release an oil slick.
So glad you reviewed this one. Also I think why there was no celebrity cameo was cause Bats wasn't climbing a sky scrapper like usual. However there are plenty to be found in other Batman 66 issues.

One of the funniest moments in the 60's show (including the movie) is during the movie's opening titles, where the spotlight falls on a creeping Batman who looks annoyed that he's been spotted. He just drops his stance and looks a little pissed. Gets me everytime.
If I was the casting director back in the 60's, Harvey Dent/Two Face would be either Robert Wagner, Gene Hackman or Clint Eastwood. You like Bobsheaux?
Announcer voice: "Fresh from The good, the bad and the ugly, Clint Eastwood goes up against Adam West in the newest episode of Batman. What is Two Face up to? Will Batman find out in time or is it to late? Find out in this week's episode!"
Clint Eastwood was actually in negotiations to play Two-Face in the tv show. But the network thought the character was "too gruesome and too violent" for the show's family friendly nature.
I know that in the original Batman quadrology, Two-Face was played by Tommy Lee Jones. However, if Tim Burton had directed Batman Forever, I think that this is how Two-Face would have been portrayed. 1)The good side of his face would have been Billy Dee Williams. The bad side? My best guess would be the late John Hurt. His voice would have been perfect. They could have managed to play the same role by only showing one side of Harvey’s face. 2) As for whenever he would have needed to face the camera directly, it would have been achieved by having the make-up crew mold half of Williams’ face to resemble that of Hurt’s face. And also both Billy Dee Williams and John Hurt would have spoken their lines in unison. 3) As for how would have Two-faces bad side look like, I was thinking something along the lines of scarred and bleached. Hey Bob (or was it Rob?), what do you think?
Honestly, for casting Two-Face in the bright knight series, I would have gone with Clint Eastwood. That trademark scowl he has would have made the Twoface expressions so easy to pull off with minimal prosthetics or makeup.
I've heard about this episode before; aside from the make-up constraints, I've also heard another reason the Two-Face episode never made it off the cutting room floor was because they felt the disfigured character might prove too frightening for kids, so they replaced him essentially with False-Face...whose mask and voice didn't make him much less creepy, so bang-up job there. In terms of casting, I've also heard Clint Eastwood was considered for the role, but that might be just a rumor. As for who I would pick: Christopher Lee. Because if Faerie Tale Theatre taught us anything, he wasn't afraid to be at least a little goofy, and if Hammer Horror taught us anything, it was that he was equally unafraid of make-up.
I heard when they where planning to have Clint Eastwood to play Two Face on the series. On that note, I've alway considered the movie Batman Forever to be somewhat of a homage to the Adam West series (makes it easier to watch...that and Kiss from a Rose) and I can't help but notice Tommy Lee Jones has a slight resemblance to Clint Eastwood so I can easily see how a live action Two Face would've worked on the show.
Well the shows version of the Mad Hatter was way different. This version had a different origin, and actually appeared in the comics, before getting killed by the original Mad Hatter everyone knows and love.
Hey Bob, I might not know if anyone told you but there is actual two Mad Hatters. One was an impostor and was after getting Batman's cowl wail the real Mad Hatter (Jervis Tetch) was the short crazy man. Fun Fact: The impostor Mad Hatter was killed by the Real Mad Hatter or so he claims. I'm a big Mad Hatter fan.
I heard a different story about why Two-Face wasn't in the show. Apparently, TF would've been a TV reporter instead of DA, and a television set was going to blow up in his face. He could've been played by CLINT EASTWOOD of all people, but Two-Face was turned down because he would've been too gruesome for a family/children's show. At least, that's what I heard.
Ohhh..I dunno... I think it WOULD have been awesome to see the Man-With-No-Name, as Harvey Two-Face Dent----years before Eastwood's first appearance as Dirty Harry. (Perhaps that's why in the 1992 Batman animated series, Richard Moll (Bull Shannon of "Night Court") voiced the "Big Bad Harve" side with a deep gravelly voice, scary enough to rival Kevin Conroy's Dark Knight crusader. "Go ahead, Bat-Punk, make my Knight! Heh-heh-heh!") And actually, what I heard was, Eastwood was all set to accept the role and play the part in Season 4, but the show was canceled after a poor run in Season 3. By the time the big Bat-Movies came along in the '90's, Eastwood was probably offered again, but by then he was too old and too busy directing, so fellow film cowboy Tommy Lee Jones got it. That's the way the coin flips.
I would wager, old chum, that the comic didn't get permission from the estate of the of the actress who played Aunt Harriet's likeness. That wouldn't be the first time that had happened in that series run.
From what I understand with regards to the hatter the show was emulating the "imposter mad hatter" which from 1956-1981 took the focus of the character away from the storybook classic and substituted it with just simple silly hat shenanigans. Suffice to say, it didn't last and DC decided to go back to the Wonderland theme (and mind control/fuckery), expanding it into the dark and twisted perversion of said universe we associate with the character today. It IS rather hypocritical if anyone on the show thought a wonderland themed bad guy (regardless of how light hearted or dark) was too silly for the 60s batman universe of all things.
ooophhh.... the perfect two-face... that's actually a pretty hard choice... i mean thinking about it, there are several jokers that are perfect in their own way (Mark Hamil's voice being the best damn joker voice) Jack Nicholson, who is able to look like a menacing crazy-happy psychopath and of course Heath Ledger who came with something of his complete own... so many good jokers... So i can't really say i can pick out one good Harvey Dent, would be great to hear suggestions though.
I collected all of the main run of Batman '66 & the miniseries that came after. I loved this issue. We finally got Two-Face in the Batman '66 universe!

"Th-This is OUR town, Mr. Potter. And we're not gonna let you have it!" "We who? You're the only one here." *_"Wrong again, Mr. Potter."_* BANG!!! *_"Merry Christmas."_*
Also, they went into great detail about him not being able to choose without the coin, and then when it lands sideways... he does want to kill Batman anyway? TAS did that so much better even if they took the idea from this episode. Btw, where did you hear that info? I read the TAS "Bible" but don't remember Dini or Timm mentioning it.
The Mad Hatter was based on the impostor Mad Hatter who was in the comics at the time, and it wasn't revealed that he was an impostor until after those TV episodes, I think.
It's not true about Batman operating soley in the daytime on the T.V. show. Even the first episode had scenes that took place at night. Did you forget about the scene at the disco, with that famous bat-dance? Robin was sitting in the batmoble watching Batman in the club, notice it was at nighttime. Adam West, may you rest in Bat-peace.
also, though actor likenesses would be an issue, what would you think of a crossover comic starring an Adam west based batman, a George reeves inspired superman, and a Linda carter inspired wonder woman. TV heroes from 3. consecutive decades:)
+Kris Lundell *shrugs* Why not? If DC can publish the likeness of Green Hornet (currently a Dynamite property), I can see them doing that with Reeves and Carter. :)
This is the first comic I ever saw with Commissioner Gordon actually looking like Neil Hamilton, [ except he wears glasses]. Hamilton was a very famous actor in the 1920's and 1930's , so his family would want royaties for his likeness. Cheif Ohara looks like him.The aunt harriet character would require royalties too. I liked the mad hatter character as he was in TV. He looks like one depiction in the comics of him. His character changed alot in the comics. The hat was the best feature.
5:35, what if that was the idea, when all the other rouges are suited in colorful costumes&gimmicks a plain gray aesthetic does seem a little well mad, Idk just a thought
Who would I pick to play that era's Two-Face? Hmm... I'll go extreme classic with this one and say Boris Karloff. I mean, they already had Vincent Price's eggscelent performance.
+Archer Slam-BAM Where did that even COME from? Hmmm.... let's have a villain who's completely obsessed with eggs for no reason. Who should play him? I GOT IT! Get Vincent Price on the phone!! lol

I would cast the very famous Clint Eastwood.
also, though actor likenesses would be an issue, what would you think of a crossover comic starring an Adam west based batman, a George reeves inspired superman, and a Linda carter inspired wonder woman.
I guess they didn't have the permission from the estate of the actress to use her likeness
5:35, what if that was the idea, when all the other rouges are suited in colorful costumes&gimmicks a plain gray aesthetic does seem a little well mad, Idk just a thought
William Shatner would've been a great Two-Face in my opinion
Brenden Samsel, I agree
Shatner's over-the-top performances make him a perfect 1960s Batman villain.
Brenden Samsel your prayers have been answered
Hey, Bob, what's your opinion on the DCAU? Specifically Batman Beyond?
10:01 "GUAM!"
...Someone's going to get that.
I think William shatner would kill it as two Face in the actual batman show
If he wasn't busy with Trek (was that show on in 1966-68?) Shatner! Or Nimoy! Or whoever played McCoy.
great review! hey, are you ever gonna review H.R. puffinstuff or lidsville? just curious.
Kaz Houser lol, and I agree on that review.
Kaz Houser I think that would be great! Maybe the wiz?
Kaz Houser that sounds good, I might even look for it myself!
Kaz Houser XD okay
Kaz Houser a little bit of it on RUclips. It kinda made me mad.
I would cast
(back then) William Shatner
(Nowaday) Tom Hardy
Who would I pick to play that era's Two-Face? Hmm... I'll go extreme classic with this one and say Boris Karloff. I mean, they already had Vincent Price's eggscelent performance.
+Archer Slam-BAM Where did that even COME from? Hmmm.... let's have a villain who's completely obsessed with eggs for no reason. Who should play him? I GOT IT! Get Vincent Price on the phone!! lol
Bobsheaux I am not even remotely sure, but I'm glad it happened. No one else could capture the cheesiness of the villain better than the man, himself. You can't deny that he gave us a beautiful messterpiece! XD
Whew. Thanks for the image warning.
I would've cast Christopher Walken!
