He actually did that in a previous video and got an achievement for it.
The seed you have to plant on an ore like iron or water and it will grow that resource, and the upgrades you get from the mine like the drill have slots, for example you cant have both the drill and the elevator bc they both take up the mine shaft slot, so its a one or the other thing

The seed duplicates any ores that its roots grow into, so it is completely useless unless you plant it on an ore vein
