    We can do Good - Cheap - Fast, but you can only choose two! Good & Cheap won't be fast - Fast & Good won't be Cheap, and Cheap & Fast won't be good. That's what we tell our customers, and they all understand that 👍

    • @ExacoMvm
      @ExacoMvm 3 года назад +2

      Apparently I can't really do "bad" nor "expensive" so I'm stuck with Good and Cheap but clients are getting pissed off at me for being slow af.
      This way I've also learned that many times clients don't care about budget, they only want it good and fast so if you're willing to work your ass off for like 15-20hours/day you can overcharge quite a lot to the point you're almost scamming your client. For example reasonably minimalistic Photorealistic single room renders w/ everything modeled from scratch based on client's reference images in hi-detail/accuracy for like $5K.

      @@ExacoMvm Guess, you have the wrong customers. High-Detail arch EXT is at € 12 K. But we do almost only cars. Beautyshots are at € 30 K per session for 3 shots for the worlds largest OEM.

      Of course, we work in Autodesk VRED and Unreal....

    • @ExacoMvm

      @@titusandronicus4826 Cars is extremely difficult to model of course, what I had in mind was simple interior scene with a bed, drawer, few lamps, cabinet, some decorations, maybe a carpet ( fur ) and other smaller details, that's like 24-40hour work excluding potential revisions ( unless it's some sort of Victorian furniture which is hard to model then it's another story ). Meanwhile hi-detail car can take half year if not more. For example I have CAD of 1:1 BMW and only to retopology the headlight it would probably take me 3-5 days as it has nearly same amount of components aka objects as average interior/room and on top bit more complex topologically. I can't even imagine what it takes to model it even in CAD.
      Of course if you work with large OEM's that makes sense to get paid $10K+ even for 3hour work ( e.g. 5 shots of their car model or some parts in VRED ), some freelancer like me would never get hired by one of these companies. It would probably be too risky to hire a single person due to deadlines, so they always hire studios/teams, probs for long term w/ contracts.

      @@ExacoMvm Very interesting insight, thank you for sharing! The guy above obviously holds a position like very few and has years if not decades of experience + a very broad network of acquaintances in the CG industry. Obv part of the top percentile unlike the overwhelming majority of artists. At this level the work itself intersects with other abilities such as networking, marketing yourself and basically managing other people. Like any other profession tbh. This video is strictly aimed toward freelancers and smaller inquiring studios, a larger one would already know to charge Bux Deluxe for even creating a new project file.

      I think she's done videos about that recently? generally I concentrate on CPU power and memory. Also a semi decent graphics card, gaming card even

    • @punithaiu
      @punithaiu 3 года назад

      Depends on your workflow... if you primarily use a CPU based renderer,example vray,corona,arnold. you would want to invest more on CPU and get as many cores as possible for your budget.. if you mainly use GPU renderer like octane,Fstorm or Vray GPU. u invest more on a better GPU. if you are just going to model in 3ds max or other software and do rendering with Lumion, Twinmotion,Unreal engine etc. you can manage with a 6 core i5 or ryzen 5 and put the money on higher end GPU. if you are rendering with CPU itself. then u buy a low end GPU even like 1650 or 1660 Ti which is enough to run your viewport well.and put the money on CPU like 3900X or even 3950X etc.
