I know this might be crazy but I think the timeline is wrong, cause of the event's in Skyward Sword. It happened before with Ocarina so there might be another break in the timeline which then leads to the event's of another Ganondorf and BotW & TotK, the reason is due to the fact Link had dropped the Temple of the Goddess on the Imprisoned and Ghirahim taking Zelda to undo Demise's seal in the past, and as typical fashion when Link went to the Temple and went through the Gate of Time sealing Demise away for good the Imprison would of never had the Temple of the Goddess dropped on it. That there would cause a break within the Timeline however it would be more of the Past where Demise is would then have Hylia or one of the Goddesses place the Temple of the Goddess back where the seal is due to the Demon King whom she had been protecting not needing to be within the sky no longer, so with that created the timeline where BotW and ToTk exists which would mean the World for LoZ is balanced until Ganondorf is born with the Zonai who had helped the people adjust to their new lives and eventually marrying Sonia and then throwing thing's out of balance once Ganondorf got the Secret Stone which is why the 2nd Wielder of the Master Sword is a hybrid of Hylian and Zonai then the sealing of Ganondorf and then the Calamity appearing. I had given it some thought as there is a possible break of the timeline again when I remember that Link goes into the Past to save Zelda from Ghirahim, so with no Demise/The Imprisoned there in the past, Ganondorf could then be born there before everything that happened.
Now there might be some incorrect info or anything like that, it's just a crazy thought that came into my head since Ocarina of Time's Link broke the timeline into 3 different timelines. The Era with No Hero, the Child Timeline, and The Hero is Defeated timelines. The reason there is only 2 different timeline's from Skyward Sword is due to Link destroying The Imprisoned in his current timeline and then going back to the Past to then defeat and Seal away Demise so both timeline's didn't have either of them as they were destroyed and/or sealed away in the past and present. If Ganondorf knows what happened and knew the timeline had broken not once but twice and is it why he tried to seize TotK since it had been a different world with the timeline breaking twice, a world where he could gain control is may of been able to unlock the secret's of Demise due to the Secret Stone's as we've seen there is no knowledge of the Triforce and it only appeared when Zelda finally used her sealing magic, and yeah this is getting too long but end of story there's 2 breaks in the timeline not one and it starts in Skyward Sword. I know I can be wrong about this or even right but it does make you think back when playing Skyward Sword that yeah the Hero of the Skies already broke time and may of split the timeline before the Hero of Time had broken it just like the first Spirit of the Hero did.
As for the Master Sword it transcends time and space so when the Hero of the Skies had gotten it powered up and to it's true form, it would be in that other timeline as well from the first time break. Gotta admit it gets you thinking of what may of transpired since the Hero of Time had broken the timeline and why there are places in BotW and TotK are familiar but seem out of place as history would of changed due to Demise having been sealed in the Past and the Imprisoned being destroyed in the Present timeline for Skyward Sword.

I've had a theory that, despite one major difference, your theory would still work for the most part. Mine is that BotW/TotK's Hyrule is new, born from the ashes of the three timelines being smashed back together by the Goddesses. The Golden Goddesses of the Triforce essentially created their own timeline each (downfall belonging to Din, child belonging to Farore, and adult belonging to Nayru), but they realized how unstable these timelines were, so they had no choice but to work together to restore them to one. In doing so, they gave up a great amount of their power, and chose to oversee the world as immortal dragons.

Memories in BOTW weren't bad, they were a good way of learning about what happened. That said, BOTW was in desparate need of a more involved story alongside those. TOTK's story was told story and simply had no purpose of the memories. Playing the memories out of order is dumb in that game, there's no reason Rauru doesn't just tell us what happened, and the player can already easily tell what happened from the very first memory yet the whole game drags it on like it's a twist you haven't figured out yet. And then there's the four identical sage cutscenes that give us nothing.

I think when ganon said "shape the world how it was meant to be" he was refering to his original plan he was carrying out until he was sealed by raru, now he has been revived and raru is no longer around he wants to carry out that vision. I don't think Nintendo really cares about the timeline as much as the fans do (no matter how much i wish they would care). They need to do a game where the golden godesses are forced to intervene and merge the timelines and have one unified timeline going forward.

    • @Klaxynd
      @Klaxynd 2 месяца назад +4

I was with you until that “uniting the timelines” idea. I agree with HMK that BotW and TotK take place in the split after Skyward Sword and I’m hoping there aren’t any further timeline splits or “recombinations”. I would accept a new single timeline that’s completely separate though and work from there (just don’t make BotW and TotK take place in the single, non-split timeline).
I’m fine with them having their complex splitting timeline, and their single straightforward timeline at the same time. I think the biggest disappointment for me was when Minish Cap wasn’t the origin of Link’s cap because they decided to place Skyward Sword at the beginning of the timeline. Heck Minish Cap is barely (if at all) treated as canon now, which is a shame since it’s a good game. Anyway I digress. My point is that I want a new separate timeline that doesn’t split.

@@Klaxynd I'm pretty sure that the Era of the Wild duology is that very "timeline unification" you speak given the myriad of references, callbacks and easter egg regarding games from _all 3 timelines_ spread across the Hyrule from Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. As Aonuma himself stated around the time of Breath of the Wild's release the events of that game take place "after the events of *all* the 3 timelines" leading to the aforementioned references, callbacks and easter eggs after all previous games fell into legend. With all this said it appears Nintendo is very much commited to a singular linear timeline once again after they outright ignored the events of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity from the official japanese despite the game involving the creation of a new timesplit.
As for the notion that The Minish Cap is no longer canon to the official timeline i'm baffled as to why you would reach such conclusion when all 3 games within the "Four Sword trilogy" (that is Four Swords, The Minish Cap and Four Swords Adventures) are very much still a part of the official japanese timeline which still aknowledges their placement as of 2024. ¿You do know Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom's director Hidemaro Fujibayashi was also the director of both The Minish Cap and Skyward Sword right...? He was the one partly responsible for the creation of the Minish race so i'm pretty sure he would not be happy if Aonuma randomly decided to decanonize a game his "successor" directed after unifying the timelines with the Era of the Wild.

there is a split in skyward sword.
demise died in two separate ways: once as the imprisoned in the present, and once as the demon king in the ancient past. demon king demise was sealed in the master sword; i once heard an argument that demise escaped the master sword only for impa to reseal him in the sealing spike, making the game a causal loop. however, demises very being was decaying in the sword. he was being progressively weakened eternally. if he was unable to escape seconds after being sealed in the master sword, he would be unable to escape in the future. therefore, demise remained in the blade until his inevitable decay into nothing. not only does the causal loop argument claim that he somehow was strong enough to escape after centuries of being weakened, it also required that an off-screen event which is never described or implied must have happened. it doesnt hold water.
therefore, the timeline branches in skyward sword. its not that im spinning it that way; its that the timeline branching is literally the only possible scenario.

Yeah. Many people correlate timeline splitting with time travel. At least in the case of SS that is not the case. There isn't a secret universe in SS, the "future" of the past segments of the game... are the "present" parts of the game. Let's remember that the thing that led to the actual universe split was the fact that Zelda herself returned Link to his original time, creating a timeline without the Hero.
And the Ganon Wins timeline, one has to assume that because it's the only canonical event where the Hero actually dies then it must mess up something up above with the Goddesses, because if Link dies then most likely the Triforce of Courage gets destroyed and unbalances things in a big way

The only real downer and as more time goes by, the lore and theories for TotK are not present as much cause it feels like the Zelda team doesn't care the story or lore to be sound anymore. Similar to the debate that open world, sacrifice narrative and real proper dungeons. The reason why the Sages were able to get memories of the past was because the original Sages already had their Secret Stones which might have been able to _record_ their memories from the Imprisoning War. Since Ganondorf didn't have a "Sage predecessor" who also possessed a Secret Stone it would explain why he never says anything explicitly confirming his knowledge of his past incarnations.
I agree on Nintendo seemingly giving up on in depth story and narrative in order to focus on innovative gameplay and fun as shown with Ultrahand. Hopefully they'll reconsider backtracking to more gameplay-restrictive game design from past Zelda games to give players a more linear driven narrative for the next Zelda game.

They were meant to imprison the Demons. After Rauru and Sonia made the inhabitants of that Land of Hyrule into a Kingdom, they went out to fight and Bind Demons to the Shrines in order to prevent them from Respawning.
Rauru's goal was to make peace in the land so that even the weak can thrive without the fear of being eaten by a Gleeok or crushed by a Lynel.
As for Ganondorf, this "Dialogue" meant for us should show that Ganondorf's Thoughts on this, he thinks the World was meant to be nothing but chaos and darkness all the time because he basically gets more stimulation from ripping his enemies appart in combat than from "baby making" or other things.

I think time in the Zelda universe is cyclical. Major events always repeat, and Tears of the Kingdom eventually leads to Skyward Sword. For a time, the time loop does split into three, but it always effectively reconverges when a Zelda from each timeline travels back to the events before Ocarina of Time. Her intervention there always results in that iteration of the loop's Downfall Timeline, where Sages imprison Ganondorf. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom either take place in the loop before Skyward Sword as we know it, or the one after the ends of the original timelines.

Ganondorf would in essence by trying to reshape the Botw branch of the timeline into something similar to the others, and beating him would cement that this is its own separate continuity without completely disregarding the impact the previous games can have on it. Would’ve made this so meta.

So, one of the things I wasn’t a big fan of prior to TotK releasing was the fourth timeline theory. Mainly because I just didn’t want another timeline split, but also because I felt it unnecessary. Just have it take place at the end of any timeline and it’s mostly fine. But at this point, knowing the history of this Hyrule and its beginnings, I’m fine with a fourth timeline. Although I don’t necessarily think it’s canon because of what Zelda says in BotW about the Master Sword and what it’s been through. Regardless of translation, past Zelda games are still mentioned.

That’s an interesting theory. But the Japanese texts provided more info about his desires to controll of all creation the Zonai has made by purifying the land of Hyrule with light.
Basically Ganondorf wants Hyrule to brought back to land roamed by demons, and only those with an encouraging fighting spirit are the once who will rule.
Instead of reshaping the world as it what meant to be and he will rule, here is what it said in the Japanese:
    (1) “Deplorable… The land that should be filled with darkness overflows with detestable light. The flock of peace seeking cowards are rampant… There used to be a sense of more backbone… From now on, I will return this land to its proper form. The world is ruled by me, determined by me… because I am the king. Pay attention… This is the rebirth of the true king. The beginning of this world!”
    (2) “I… rule over all things… I will become an omnipotent king!! I will not acknowledge… one mere human! I no longer need myself [ego] or my body! I will take all of you to hell! I will end the world in eternal darkness!!”

I don't think the Tears are derived from the Triforces, but rather the other way round. The Tears are weaker than the three Triforces, but they are adaptive, their domain representing the attribute latent or predominant within the bearer, whereas the Triforces are locked to their respective powers: Power, Wisdom and Courage. Just as it takes three Triforces combined to grand a wish for a greater miracle that is able to rewrite reality, three Tear bearers can unite their power to perform a minor miracle.
Since the Great Dragons once were Zonai, who have swallowed their tear, as TotK has strongly alluded to, and upon becoming Dragons, they gain extra power, immortality but also become completely disconnected from the mortal world (and their mortal identity and thoughts), and with the often stated connection of the Zonai to the Gods, there is a theory that those Great Dragons might be the Three Goddesses. I don't remember who proposed this theory (it is not of my origin), but if it can be taken as true, then this might potentially mean that the Triforces are the crystalisation of a Tear melded with a person's inner quality.
We know for a fact that when someone eats their Tear, they become a Dragon. If the theory is true that the three Great Dragons are the Goddesses, this would mean, when someone is turned into a Dragon due to eating a Tear, they would leave behind a Triforce upon leaving the world and ascending (as stated in OoT). This Triforce would be the result of a Tear merging irrecoverably with the person's inner quality and chrystalising. This would explain the absense of a fourth Triforce, since Hylia never left the world to ascend. It also would explain why Gods can't use the Triforce (the reason Hylia had to become mortal), they gave up their connection to their inner quality and forfeited their mortality. This also would mean that when Zelda became a dragon, there should have been a Triforce of Time left behind at the location where she ascended from. I know, there are too many facts that disprove the theory (Hylia was a goddess and had to become mortal in order to use the Triforce; the absense of a new Triforce at the spot where Zelda became a dragon and ascended, etc...), but it is still something worth contemplating.

Something to point out: if that be true; then wouldn't he have recognized Zelda after he gained the secret stone, before he was sealed? His guess on the hero, was based on information that he was told by Hyrule's king, who had been told some pieces of it by Zelda. It's literally the counter argument Rauru made when Ganondorf called his sealing attempt pointless and that it was inevitable for him to break free and resume his conquest: "Years from now, someone will come with the sword that seals the darkness. That person will have the power to defeat you: Link! Remember... this name."
Analyze more of the plotlines before making concrete theories. It is intriguing that there be a possible 4th timeline, split from the results of the first zelda with time shenanigans (skyward sword), but some of what you said has conflict with what was shown in game.

BOTW/TOTK as a branch from Skyward Sword makes more sense to me. I much rather prefer this theory, it's not one that's talked about much but it resolves a lot more loopholes compared to the other timeline theories. Also it means that there's only been one true Ganondorf. In a similar vein, one could say the Minish Cap trilogy is also a branched timeline since the games & lore are so inconsistent with the rest of the series.

  • @landon1812

damn, been a minute since I heard a Zelda theory, while it's interesting I don't think that TOTK Ganondorf actually understands there are multiple universes with different events and I don't think that Nintendo actually cares about the Manga continuity.
Also, I want to know about who else is trying to keep up with the continuity anymore since TOTK was Nintendo telling us they don't care about the timeline anymore and don't want to make Zelda games like they used to, like BOTW and TOTK aren't even apart of the timeline anymore and even if we try to make it fit it ends up being so convoluted that it doesn't really matter anymore so my interest has started to die out and the only way they could keep my interest is if they doubled back to the old timeline or made new lore and expanded the BOTW and TOTK world like having this Link go to a new land instead of Hyrule 3.0, sorry if I'm rambling but I just find it hard to like this series as much as I used to so maybe I just need go back to my roots along with trying to enjoy TOTK on it's own merits even though I think there was a lot of missed potential.

The issue is that BOTW and TOTK only really have ties to Skyward Sword of all games. Which makes sense since it's the same director. The issue is when I say those two games only connect to SS, I mean ONLY it. They do no connect to each other even as well. It's so messy how they've handled these games. The Imprisoning War seems to obviously be a reference to the one after OOT, but the reason everyone ignores that is just how blatantly it ignores any bit of consistency to that event, as much as it ignores every other game too.

PART of your Theory is Definatly correct! But not all of it. I also noticced the line where Ganondorf mention the secret stones imparting knowledge so he defaintly know some things. But Ganondorf can't know everything because in both the begining and the end of the game Ganondorf expresses disapointment with Link not being the worthy opponet that he was looking foward to. So Ganondorf was expecting Link to be very different. Ganondorf could be lying and playing mind games but that is just speculation. I defiantly see the connection though I thought the line "I will crush any who oppose me, I will rule, that is what a king must do" was a really generic villian line but it is much deeper if he had at least some visions of his other lives and knows that it is his destiny to "make the world as it was meant to be". One other interesting take on this though is that the Secret Stone clearly gave him a bigger connection to his original Demise form so that could be the memories he got the most of. We still don't know why Demise hated the gods so much but an interesting theory is that since the story decribes the 3 golden goddesses decending down to a world of chaos and making it as it is now. What if that "chaos" was Demise's home and the "monsters" were happy with the way things were until the goddesses decedied they were not good enough then burried them in the Depths and built the world of light on top. That would explain why Demise emerged from a fissiure in the ground. It would also explain why Ganondorf seems to abandon the Gerudo becuase with the memories of Demise he knows he is not truely one of them he is one of the Monsters.

Honestly still sort of think Dragon-Break Theory may still be the most clean solution rather than a yet 4th timeline split. And this theory sort of can further that the Secret Stones and Zelda's TOTK Time travel incident are what unify it.
An immense amount of time passes in all 3 timelines, so much so versions of every game's events happen in each. Eventually leading to the emergence of the Zonai and whatever event resulted in the creation of the Secret Stones and the "Golden Power" passed down in the Royal Family.
By the time Zelda time-travels back to the era of the Zonai using the Time-secret Stone she awakened. She causes a Dragon-Break like event, said event causing all 3 timelines to unify due to the temporal distortion (The event splitting them in the first place being OOT Zelda sending link back in time also being a thing of note).
Gannondorf in the case here, gets a flashback *from his previous selves* which because the timeline is unified now. Impart all their knowledge to him and calls back to the concept of the Triforce/Secret Stones imparting knowledge beyond one's own timeline scope.
Now, teeechnically TOTK has to be a few timelines "Deep" into it's own events for the Zelda-> Light Dragon "Long Way around" loop to work. but that's a separate issue. (There had to of been a timeline without a Zelda in the past first, then a Zelda who arrived and did things in the past "first", then one final timeline where Present-Zelda lived in the timeline where there was a version of her in the Zonai-era in order for the events in TOTK to work out)

Also, what did we get in the intervening wait time for TotK? A "what if" scenario in the form of AoC which depicts a different branch of events before Ganon's malice could fully manifest itself and cause destruction across Hyrule

@HMK A theory is the first step in solving a problem, using given facts, past (proven) experiences, and evidence. Then, there is a test and further experiments to prove the theory is correct or not.
So, to put it in short: there is a real problem/ mystery -> made up theory based on experiences and facts -> test if theory is correct or not.
In the case of this video, not just some facts are made up or not part of the canon, but even the problem itself is made up and not based on reality (Zelda-World reality).
If Ganondorf was to have visions from the secret stone, he should have seen Link too, no? But Ganondorf clearly doesn't know who Link is in TotK. He hears his name from Rauru for the first time. You are just ignoring a fact. And the point about secret stones having the same abilities as the Triforce is also an unproven theory of yours.
By including your own untested theories in new ones, they drift away from being reasonable more and more, reaching the territory of fiction.
I for myself enjoy theories grounded in actual canon and facts found in the games and just the games. I would rather have a small mystery to be solved with a theory just based on information that is given to us.
With a solution so unshakable because it's highly likely to be true.
Instead of a huge, crazy problem trying to be solved by a theory whose first argument is already questionable.
This is more of a conjecture than a theory.
A conjecture is: an opinion or conclusion formed on the basis of incomplete information.
I understand that you guys (Zelda-Tubers) need to make content and you obviously can't wait for the next games to come out, to feed you with new mysteries the fans want to know more about, but as a RUclipsr with many followers, I also think that you guys have an educational role. Theories are good to teach critical thinking, problem solving and clear argumenting. But you show people that you can make up your own facts, which will make them lose themselves in horribly monitored and not solution-oriented discussions.

They don’t fit together half as well as the hystoria depicts, and half of it is based on a colored brim of Link’s hat, which originally was just to show the border between his hat and face in poor graphics. I’ve played every single Zelda including CDi. The timeline is just a gen Z fetish for giving every blade of grass extended lore. To this day I don’t understand the fascination with giving every little aspect a lore. Why can doom guy just be a guy who hates demons and is great with firearms? Why can’t Zelda be a timeless story of adventure and good triumphant over evil?

I've believed for a while now that Demise's curse gave Ganondorf some vague awareness of his memories from other timelines. Fi mentions that Demise "has conquered time and space", implying he exists outside of time's constraints, so why shouldn't his curse ignore time as well?

In the japanese version of Skyward Sword Demise never "cursed" Link and Zelda/Hylia with an incarnation of his hatred but rather _warned_ Link about future beings who would embody the hatred of the Demon Tribe towards the gods of the Zelda pantheon. According to the accurate translation of Fi's description of Demise in the japanese version of Skyward Sword:
_"The name of the targeted object is "Tyrannical Being"._
_A totally overwhelming existence which has overcome Time itself and is the origin of the ever-so-present "Demons". It is said that its form varies according to the era and the one who witnesses it."_
She never states that he's conquered Time itself but simply that he "overcame it" which could mean anything from him been impervious to natural death due to his immortal nature as a demon or simply a very ancient and extremely long lived demon who's lifespan already extended for possibly thousands of years hence Fi's suggestion of him having overcome Time itself. As stated above there is NO CURSE in the japanese version of Skyward Sword with Demise only warning Link of future incarnations of the Demon Tribe's hatred meaning there's no reason to suggest all incarnations of Ganondorf across the timeline are able to recall the memories from each one of their previous incarnations.
