The current video gives children a clear understanding of the surgical process by taking a visual tour of the hospital
    Summary of project:
Stress caused by hospitalization may cause many negative outcomes. There is always a need to update tools to help ease the hospitalization of children. After evaluating academic literature, it was found children who were supported through services such as Child Life had better outcomes in terms of their hospitalization stay/time. Additional research found that psychologically preparing children for surgical procedures not only benefited children, but also everyone one involved in the procedure. Analyses of videos previously used by other pediatric hospitals revealed that they lacked concepts such as the quality of the video, presence of Child Life services, and additional elements that were deemed important messages when introducing the process of surgery to hospitalized children. The present video production incorporate the process of surgery and introduced the role of all involved hospital personnel and the Child Life Specialist for hospitalized children. Ratings and comments from evaluators indicated that the initial objective of producing a high quality video for the Child Life Program was achieved. Suggestions by evaluators help polish the video that would be soon to share with audiences.
