    Sorry about the shakiness, I was standing on uneven soft ground in a cemetary and lost my balance a bit.

    this is my beloved son...LCpl Alec R Terwiske. Those Marines were not only his fellow brother, they were also his childhood friends. The best of friends since grade school. We miss him more then any one could ever know. He was always so full of life, with the biggest heart and had the most amazing smile. I want to thank Dawn for the video, and say a big thank you to everyone who posted on here with such kind words. My son was very very loved and he loved everyone.

    This is one of the main reasons I volunteer to play taps. I think it's a shame that a real bugler or trumpet player couldn't be there. It's the ultimate respect to play taps. One in which I take great pride in. I've played at funerals, ceremonies, and at Arlington. I will be playing taps tomorrow at Arlington for the Korean War Veterans.

      I remember for both my Aunt's and Grandpa's funerals, the "player" had a speaker built like a mute placed in the bell of the instrument, and it was easier to hear. Plus they were both in relatively small towns, so I have a feeling that very few people actually knew how to play the piece, even though I've heard it's the easiest trumpet/bugle piece to learn.

    Rest In Peace, Brother. Much respect.
    During the early years of the Vietnam War, I was part of too many military funerals for fallen Marines on the West Coast in California. I was a member of the "21 gun salute" firing party, shown in the background here. Saw a lot of good Marines put into the earth, and to this day can still hear, in my mind, the anguished wails of their families as they bid their last good-bye to their beloved relative.
    God be with and bless all of the families who lose loved ones in war.
    Hand Salute!
    ~Semper Fidelis~

      Salut! Patriarch, your duty was important to honor those who sacrified their lives!
      That was not just a decorative gimmick, it was an important expression of honor and valued recognition of the fallen soldier!
      Thanks for having done this trist duty truthfully!
      BTW, could you explain to me why apparently a royal scottish guard is playing bagpipe there?
      I thought they would do so for a fallen Thommy, for a US-Marine it is unusual, isn't it?

      That statement is wrong. The Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard work in unison to protect the streets of America. Nobody does a better job than the other. Regardless of your opinion, you and I both know that in battle, your brothers are the men alongside you, and they will fight for you and you will do the same, regardless of your Branch.

    • @lambot3g
      @lambot3g 8 лет назад +3

      That statement was not meant to denigrate any branch of the US Military at all. It's just meant to be a nice thing to say at a Marine funeral. I first heard it at my grandfather's funeral. No branch or MOS is any better or worse. I agree with your statement 100%. Every service member is critical to success and has my utmost respect. No offense was meant brother.

      Had exactly the same effect on my eyes too.
      Maybe cuz you have gone through some military drill too in your youth?
      Old rough vets may get very emotional on such occasions, even decades after leaving the barracks.
      There is something remaining deep inside which makes you stand upright as well as you can when your deaf ears recognize salutes and bugles.
      And if it needs to pull with both hands on the table to stand up, but you cannot simply stay seated where you are.
      That's a sort of military imprint they have left in the soul before your term finished and there is no deletebutton for it...
      Well, it will probably have the same effect at 50, 60, 70, 80 or even 90 or 100, so long your ears are able to recognize a bugle... ;-)

      @awesometico 9 лет назад

      +jrsthesedays925 of course I do, that's why what this government needs to do is stop sending them to die fighting in a country that didn't attack us, why we shouldn't have overthrown saddam and destabilized the region. Now we have Isis, and everyone is surprised why. Maybe it's cause saddam's generals joined former alqueada after he fell. And look at the va, the government doesn't care about our troops they send them off to die for corporate gains and then when the troops come back, they neglect them and or insult them for having ptsd, severed limbs, etc. look at all the veterans on the street who were abandoned.

My father, a Marine who served in the South Pacific in WW2, passed away this last July. The military portion of his funeral was much like Alec's- somber, respectful yet full of devotion to our country and the Marines. I hope you know the deep gratitude that most Americans have for Alec's sacrifice and those that lay their lives on the line every day. It depends on your rank and stuff. When nancy pelosi dies she will get a 19 gun salute (which is with artillery not rifles). They give 3 volleys because back in the day when they would cease fighting to pick up the dead off the battlefield, and once they were finished both sides would fire 3 volleys to signal they were ready to start fighting again.

    Sorry to disappoint folks. That's not a 21 gun salute. That's a 3-Round volley. Only Presidents of the United States get 21 gun salutes.

    • @ThomasNessman
      @ThomasNessman 8 лет назад +1

      I'm not familiar with the story of Lcpl Alec Terwiske. I knew that presidents received a 21 gun salute. But what does a Medal of Honor recipient receive? Every serviceman has the right to be buried with respect, and honor.

    • @DocAnaheim
      @DocAnaheim 8 лет назад +2

      3 Volleys 7 rifle firing team, all Service men except President and Heads of State. These receive the 21 Cannon shot fusillade.

    • @DeltaHouseStudios
      @DeltaHouseStudios 8 лет назад +2

      There are gun salutes from 21 down to 5. US Vice President's get 19 and it goes down from there to include generals. Medal of Honor Recipients receive 3-Round Volleys like all Service Members.

    • @ThomasNessman
      @ThomasNessman 8 лет назад

      Alexander Dennis I had heard another description or definition of the 21 gun salute. Seven servicemen of appropriate rank, firing a volley, three times.
      Seems hardly fitting though for a Medal of Honor winner to only receive three volleys.

    • @DeltaHouseStudios
      @DeltaHouseStudios 8 лет назад +6

      Thomas Nessman Well, sorry to burst that bubble, but that's not a 21 Gun Salute. "Gun" in the military refers to large guns found on naval ships, cannons, and artillery. Pistols and rifles are not "guns" in the military sense, and Drill Sergeants made sure we knew it. A 3-Round Volley, whether fired by 7 or 4 Service is just that, a 'THREE' Round Volley. There is no 2 Round, 4 Round, or 5 Round. FM 3-21.5 Drill and Ceremonies states, "Today’s customary three volleys fired over a grave probably originated as far back as the Roman Empire. The Roman funeral rites of casting dirt three times on the coffin constituted the 'burial.'"

    Funeral Clothes Options for Men
    If you have a black suit, white shirt, and black tie, funeral etiquette dictates that this is what you should wear. Dark charcoal or navy blue are also appropriate suit colors. Pin stripes or other woven designs in the suit fabric should be subdued. You can also wear the following accessories:
    A tie in a dark, solid color (rather than one with stripes or other designs.)
    A pocket square in a solid, dark color
    Cufflinks and a nice wristwatch
    Black dress shoes and dark dress socks (not white athletic socks). Black boots with no ornamentation may also be acceptable.
    What if you don’t have a suit in your closet? The following may be the best you can do on short notice:
    Medium or light blue dress shirt, khaki trousers, solid dark blue tie, brown loafers
    Navy slacks, white shirt, solid blue or burgundy tie, black shoes
    Make sure everything is nicely pressed so your funeral attire looks as respectful as possible.

      Jeff Stoops In the USA we have Salvation Army stores that take donations of clothing and household items, clean them and sell them. They do this to raise money to help the poor. If the guy would have gone to a Salvation Army store and told them that he needed to go to the funeral of a good friend who was killed in combat they would have given him a free suit, tie, shirt, and shoes.
      Unless asked to wear bluejeans, the ONLY reason a person in the USA shows up to a funeral (that they know about a day or more in advance) in bluejeans is because they wanted to show disrespect to the family of the deceased or the deceased.
