my fave vh song! i think many now complain about ou812 cause it was sooo good and soooo radio friendly and was such a success. it is not a dark deep cut record store find as it was super overplayed on radio and mtv. the non radio songs were best! good job man!
I write this comment for what Van Halen left inside me: it's a song and an album that changed my view of rock music and its expressiveness. Perfect feeling to this song!
Holy Cow!! That was a picture perfect cover! Great job!! That solo run is very impressive!! Still working on it myself!! Thanks for sharing!! OU812 rocks!! I was in high school at the time!! Keep rockin!!
Wow, dead on cover here... tone, techniques, timing, you have it all! I'm convinced Ed really just seethed music out like it was some kind of necessary part of his day and life. The connections of the different components of this song, bridge together so perfectly. If you hear all the riffs seperated, as someone who is NOT Ed, you would never think they would fit together so seemlessly. But, Ed's conviction and intent with music, almost just forced things into submission that sounded in the end, so effortless. This is one of the many reasons we all are still amazed by his contribution to music history. Thanks for your efforts in keeping his music very much alive and relevant. :)
Thanks! Eddie just thought differently than all the other players around him. I think Nuno is probably the closest to him. I just love listening to trying to figure out exactly how he played and approached this craft we all love. I'm also glad I got to see him play live several times.
Thanks Hunter! I remember hearing this for the first time and thinking, this might be their best song. It has everything you want in a VH song. Glad you liked the video! Thanks for stopping by.
What a Kick-A$$ song,it's funny because i always listened to Van-halen more as a singer standpoint and i listened to OU812 when it came out but it was never a favorite until i bought the Wolfgang about 9 months ago now i go to bed every night with it in my i-pod.Your covers are always perfect and not only that, the speech bubbles are very helpful to me because i am green to guitar but i love every minute of it.Thanks again for those videos
I too think OU812 is a great album ! was listening to it just before I commented here after seeing your amazing cover. Eddie would approve of your playing
This cover is simply amazing .. simply amazing. My dream arcade games would be Tempest, Robotron, Centipede and maybe Yar's Revenge :) You nailed this track .. if I could say, of the later VH stuff, my favorite is probably Pleasure Dome. Any chance you could nail that one too?
Finally! Someone else appreciates OU812. I also love the guitar tone (and hated it on 5150 especially with all the processing). Please do Good Enough and One Way To ROck (either LWAN or Tokyo Dome versions).
Hey Shane, the profile I use is a heavily modified version of the TopJimi VH 1984 profile. I use that profile for the base sound then add a lot more reverb (core to the VH sound), a micropitch effect from the Kemper with about 6.7 cents. You also need a good PAF pickup. I don't think you can come close with any other pickup. I use the Pariah Pasadena "White." They custom make them for you and Sean is a great dude. Other than that I don't double track the guitar but I do copy the track, split it left and right and offset one side by 32ms. Doing this will give the guitar sound way more depth and a bit more presence. The last thing I would say, which seems like most get wrong, is the amount of treble and distortion to Ed's sound. I'm only at about 55% distortion and the treble is a little over half way. Hope this helps! As for doing a video, I think I can do that but I'll have to add it to the list.
@@TheRetroGuitarist thanks so much for answering my question so in depth I really appreciate it.I also understand to make the video is easier said than done, will be patient. Love your work…🤘
Not to be an ass*ole, but Eddie did that from his own mind, skill, and body. I do indeed love how you show the skill he had all organic and all. Amazing. Phenomenal skills I couldn't ever dream of trying.
@@TheRetroGuitarist There is only one of you, and I hope to see you too. Thanks for the nostalgic play. It never gets easier when we lose our heroes, but you make it better. Appreciated!!

Totally awesome cover. Fantastic performance and love that tone you have. OU812 is one my favorites too. Sucker is a great tune too. Where did you get such a killer tone? Remarkably close to the original
Thanks! I plan on doing Sucker in a 3 Piece at some point. I love the intro of that song. I use the Kemper Profiler with a modified version of the VH TopJimi profile.
Hit that thumbs up for Van Halen!!
I don't see how anyone can ever say they don't like the Sammy days? THIS STUFF KICKS ASS!!!!!!!
Yea, I have never understood the Sammy hate thing. So dumb.
Eddie was great like he's always been, but Sammy is corny as a singer and lyricist

Hell yeah!!! My favorite Hagar era album, favorite Eddie tone from the Hagar era🤘🏽
Yea, this tone is one of my favs too!
I've tried to watch others play AFU trying to figure out the licks, your cover is the clearest performance I've found🤘🏻

Well said! This album along with 5150 redefined everything about rock and music!

Thanks Daniel! That run is an Ed stable. Once your get it down you can use it a LOT! OU812 is great! It has my favorite guitar tones.
Awesome ! Thanks for keeping EVH live forever !!!
You bet!
Long Live the Mighty Van Halen! 🎸☝🏽
Yes! Love to hear from other VH fans! Thanks Ray!

Excellent cover man. I fully agree that OU 812 was a fantastic album.
Mad props my brother!!! Yeah one of my all time favorite VH intros (and songs) of all time.

Not only do you have the tone and playing skills you also adopt the EVH grin when you’ve just nailed a particularly tricky part!🤘
Thanks Mark! AFU is one of my favs so I really wanted to play it as best I could. Respect to Eddie. :-)
Completely nailed the tone man!! Not only the sound, but the hands too
Incredible
Thanks Luke!
FAROUT
Might be one of the best VH covers on RUclips, you really nailed it man!
Appreciate that!
I like your right hand. Nice pickwork 👍. The solo in Feels so Good hits me every time I hear it. Long live King Edward #ripevh 🤟
Thanks Slim! I might have to do Feels So Good. That is a great solo. All the solos on OU812 are though.
What an absolute phenomenal and totally wired cover - you slayed it man, great work!

I remember this one live at the Monsters Of Rock!! Great job as always!!
Yes! Monsters of Rock in 1989 right? Thanks!
Very cool watching this one. Brings me back to high school days. Great job! I am always amazed at how he wrote these…so much going on.
Thanks Andrew! Yea, Eddie did not believe in just holding a bar chord. 😃

Hey Rob, thanks so much for the kind words. Pleasure Dome is the best track on F.U.C.K. for sure. I'll put that one the list!
Cannot list & listen & listen again ... VH is addictive ...
Agreed!
Wow! Great job! Very clean & smooth.

Honestly and truly you could play this back to back with the original and it would be difficult to tell which is which.
YA GOT TO DO SUCKER IN A 3 PIECE , VHS MOST UNDERRATED SONG , AMAZING JOB BRUV!
Thanks Diamond D! Sucker is on the list now. 🙂
Nice job!!! 💯
Thanks 💯

It is really great. It was the reason I started this channel.
Could please do an in-depth video of how you achieve this tone using the kemper please pretty please🙏🏻

Spot on cover! Where’d you find this backing track?
He does do one pick slide, right before the first bridge part, right before Sammy says “ when the rest have packed it up”. Check it out. Great job man
Now I will have to go back on re-record the song! Seriously though, I cannot believe I missed that one. Thanks!
@@TheRetroGuitarist lol, we are really getting particular but it’s true. I think you did great how it is.
Awesome job, your tone sounds basically identical to Eddie's 😎🤘

Sounds so great! Congrats. May I ask you the profile of the kemper? ^^

I love it!
Agree, the best HAGAR tone era!!!
So great to hear so many other people feel like OU812 is awesome!
How did you get the backing track I can’t find it
I make the backing track my playing the bass then extracting the drums and vocals from the original song.
Lucky lol
Maybe Sammy should have you play the vh tribute tour you played that just like Eddie joe doesn't sound like Eddie.
Yea, Satch has his own style that is nothing like Ed's. Me playing would be a dream but there are better players out there than me.
Great job, but with respect. MORE PALM MUTE HITS
Check!
