2018/2019 was peak Messi for me. In 2012, he was more of just a goalscorer and a forward, though he may have had even more assists. But in 2018/2019, my man was firing on all cylinders. He was assisting, playmaking, passes from way deep, crosses, free freekicks and still scoring a lot. He was a leader. We'll never see a season from anyone like 2018/2019. What I find unbelievable is that he is well past his insane prime and even then he is among top 5 goal contributors in Europe right now with 17 goals and 16 assists for PSG. Messi 🐐so good that when he approaches retirement, he becomes prime KDB.
In 2011/12, he was better than 2012. Club + Country 2011/12 season Messi had 82 goals and 34 assists. That's 116 G/A better than 113 G/A in 2012. He did it in 69 games as well. Truly the most complete season ever. THE GOAT.
The game against Leverkuson didn't leave fans speechless because he scored a goal from a tight angle. It left fans speechless because at the time he was the only player to score 5 goals in a Champions League match. It was mind blowing
The best Messi I ever saw was 18/19. By all means wasn’t his prime in terms of goal scoring however his overall game I have never seen it at a higher level than that season. He was everything for Barca at that point, from dictating pace of play, to chance creation, the dribbling and the goals it was unmatched. It would be spoken about more if they managed to complete the UCL job
18/19 imo is second best after 11/12... It's almost laughable that Messi convinced us that we are the favorites to win UCL with that Barca team with umtiti semedo Roberto Alba pique on the back line... my god
Thank you for mentioning Villa and especially Pedro. Neither of them get much recognition but Pedro especially. In those years at Barça he made many, many contributions to big goals, and more broadly filled a very important role on the right wing that synergized unbelievably well with not only the front line, but also Xavi and Iniesta. They had such a good understanding of each other, it was just so satisfying to watch.
That’s show how great CR7 & messi is, no matter how any other player performs, won’t get enough credit, coz we r use to the insane numbers messi and CR7 were achieving
The craziest part about it for me is that he didn’t even play as a typical number 9 waiting in the box for crosses. He scored so many goals after combining with his teammates, dribbling past multiple players or scoring from outside the box. And on top of that he still got 22 assists which shows he didn’t even sacrifice his playmaking side.
@@srinivasaraghavan8277 He did in 2013-2014 ucl season where he scored 1 of the goals in Stamford bridge,n a brace at the noucamp.Get ur facts right clown head.
Wish Messi didn’t get injured in 2013 we could’ve probably seen 80+ goals in ALL competitions. Nevertheless the GOAT got 60 goals so back to back 60+ goal seasons is STILL obviously insane.
This version of him was insane! Not only was his dribbling insane but he can change direction in the blink of an eye. It’s hard to tell which one is his peak but my favorite version of him is the 18/19 season. A complete all round player
Messi LOVES dribbling the goalkeeper. After his drop of the shoulder it's practically his signature move. It says SO much about his confidence, he really believes that the Goalie is going to commit before he does. Crazy stuff.
I remember this like it was yesterday. Cristiano had won the pichichi the previous year with an absolutely insane 40 goals even though real dropped a lot of points post new year and barca ran away with a final three months gallop. This probably awakened something in Messi and he transformed from 'just' extraordinary to simply insane. He scored 50 compared to cristiano's 46 in la liga. Although in an ironic twist this time barca dropped points in a tight race and madrid won the league.
Even more interesting is that even though the roles were reversed cr7 didn't win the golden ball despite winning la liga . I know it's a messi video but I always found it strange that cr7 didn't win that year considering messi won the award the previous year because he had more silverware than cr7
@@josueamaya5883 messi ronaldo debate can go on ...but i think the very fact that messi is capable of being one of the, if not THE best player in the world even without the goals is what rightfully gives him edge in the balondor even if he does not end up being top scorer.(at the end of the day , top scorers get the golden boot but for balondor it is just one of the contributing factors) In 2012 messi was his usual best playing incredible football, running games like no one else..with just the difference that he scored a whopping 91 that time. While a lot of people on social media waste their time criticizing these great players, I think it’s best to just appreciate how lucky we are to be alive to witness Messi’s, Ronaldo’s, Mbappe’s, etc, etc career. Appreciate these greats because they won’t be here forever. We’re truly in an astonishing time for the sport.
With all due respect, it is perhaps criminal to name Mbappe’s name alongside Messi and CR7 in this context as of YET.. Mbappe needs to do what he is doing currently for ATLEAST 10 MORE seasons imo to be named alongside the two..
@@sarundahal171 agreed. The mbappe name drop was moreso to compare the next generations superstars, but no doubt Messi and Ronaldo have set an incredible bar.
Between 16th Feb, 2012 and 16th Feb, 2013, Messi scored 95 goals and had 21 assists in 67 games, which I think is his best '365 days'. It's neither a season nor yearly based stat but a 365 days stats which I think is hella impressive
Stats are out of this world but whats more impressive was his performence overall when you look at his dribbling, passes and how he reads the game. I mean he is so good that he as like a scoring prime , a playmaking prime and a dribbling prime where he was the best in all of them.
2012 is truly Lionel Messi at his absolute best. 91 goals in 2012 alone is unthinkable. Not even Mbappe and Haaland can emulate or smash that record. If Lionel Messi didn't dominate that year then Iniesta would have won the Ballon D'or. Truly Messi at his peak.
The best thing about Messi is 2009 2012 2015 2019 2022 The stats nd achievements of Messi in all those years are just incredible. Messi fans should debate among themselves, which prime is Messi's actuall prime
I dont think 2022 can be said as prime any more, his last prime was 2019 where he can actually play. 2022 was literally his will power drag him to his magnum opus in world cup, just as zidane did back in 2006. he knows this will be his last dance. personally my pick will be 2010 to 2011 messi, at that time he matured in shooting while still has top notch pacing and stamina to run a full game. unlike messi after this just walking most of the matches.
Ignoring the world cup victory, he currently has 24 G/A in Ligue 1 at 35 which is pretty impressive also. His return for his country in 2022 was 18 goals. He won man of the match in the Uefa-conmebol super cup and the French super cup.
People forget messi used to be a prolific winger and dribbler.. hes done so well at adapting and changing his game into being a central creative playmaker thats the real magic..
He's the best of football history. Some of his records might be broken in 100 years or so but he's a legend and will remain being the best for a very long time.
Pep's Barcelona was the best team that has played, new USA fans are just seeing a shadow of what Messi did against the greats, his speeches, just listening him yell Visca Barca, Visca Catalunya was emotional, and the came Neymar and Suarez, man what a time to be alive, just legends

For me his best season ONLY individually was of course 11/12, but if we take both individual results and team achievments, then 2015 was a monstrously good season. And I don't exaggarate. He was a monster that season, I haven't seen a player play better than that. He had prime Neymar, prime Suarez, but still he managed to outshine both of them (even though they were brilliant as well, especially in the UCL knockout stage). Imagine having 2 insane goalscorers, being a winger-playmaker, but still finishing the season with 59 goals. I think if he had scored 10 more goals that season it would have been his absolute best season without a doubt
Just half an hour ago me and my friend were discussing how insane messi performed in that 91 season. And you here posted a video relating to that season. Coincidence!
With Messi, I'd argue his main asset truly is his intelligence. His ability to adapt himself to changes in environment, tactics and his own physicality.
If you ask me, his prime is definitely 18/19. He was just unplayable that season, and when you consider the fact that he basically carried that Barca team, it just makes his feats that year all the more impressive.
Well, 2018/19 messi was prime messi for me. The waybhe dragged barca in cl, la liga and cdr, was insane. Man nearly carried barca to a treble alone until Liverpool happened
Thinking how he did it is already insane to hear. Imagine someone who doesnt really watch laliga games and ending up hearing messi broke the record of most goals scored in a calender year. I couldnt do that even in a calender year while kicking for fun.
Whats even more scary that he did it in just 69 matches Messi is the best footballer to ever play the beautiful game it's not just his goals and creativity what sets him apart it's his genius on the ball he destroys players for fun their will be no player like messi again 👏
Let's appreciate CR7 for giving Messi a tough fight in his entire career, sometimes even winning Balon dor over MESSI.Just imagine, that man was toe to toe with Messi.Just how good you must be.
i’m sorry but Ronaldo’s fame and overall the Ronaldo vs Messi hype is what kept him considered as Messi’s rival thruout the years, especially later on. otherwise Messi is better in more aspects than worse.
That year, is when the greatest player of all times played the game. That one year, he surpased all other footballers in the history of the game, including himself. Lionel Messi 2012 is the greatest footballer of all times and i doubt i'll see anything like him ever again. That was the pinnacle of all footballing greatness. I remember every week the comentators would literally look for new terms and adjectives to describe what they were witnessing. All superlatives ended up coming short because every damn week he'd keep going futher and further and becoming greater and greater. At the end of that year or the start of the next, there was a new word added to the spanish vocabulary: "Inmessionante" joining "impresionante" impresive, and Messi. That's right, Messi played the game to such a degree of divine greatness that WE LITERALLY MADE A WORD FOR DESCRIBING HIM AND HIS ABILITY TO PLAY FOOTBALL. The one man in the history of SPORTS that needed a new word to be created to describe his greatness.
Honestly he was always in his prime. He's still in a prime for a 3 0 year old, but when he was young; he would have insane stats, just as long as he head a great/good coach in charge. Tito and Pep helped contribute to his goal success
For me, his prime was in 2019. Messi, overall through all the seasons has been the 🐐, but that season in particular (2018-2019) was from another planet. He scored and assist a lot
All i can say is that Lionel Messi is a player that could have his prime in things like goals but football have his prime in Messi Pele is the one who started the art of football as we know it and beings like Di Stefano Maradona and Ronaldo Nazario were the stars of a great constellation that all of us cannot do nothing but love Messi... Is the most complete football player the world has ever seen until now even without the countless records and the charisma he showed as a player and person is a thing almost impossible to find
Crazy how we talk about Haaland and Mbappe and their goalscoring but this will probably be Haaland's first year in his career get 50+ goals while Prime Messi without injuries did that every season while getting 20+ assists a season
What puts Messi in another league, is the fact that most of his goals are not just tapins.. he dribbles, kicks from outside the box, provides magical moments like it was nothing. I suppose Halaand could get close his numbers.. but when you compare the way it happens, you realize that there's just no way to compare anyone with Messi's prime. Cristiano, Halaand, Mbappe are amazing goalscorers, but they depend on talents around them to serve... but when it comes to play a different game, to decide alone.. sorry folks, no way we could put you'all in the same sentence with LM10
The way Michael Jordan sits as the god of basketball just the dominant force that cannot be stopped when he is at maximum focus Messi is even greater to football if that is even conceivable This man’s career is pages upon pages of history being rewritten. By far the best player ever and comfortably the greatest ever.
Messi has been the GOAT since 2012. It's incredible how a single WC win changes how people perceive someone's career and what would have happened had Messi won it in 2014? Would we even be talking about a debate of who the best player of the century so far has been? Cuz it's obviously Messi, but that has been the case for more than 12 years yet only now some stubborn people see the trough. 0:41 Just for comparison, last year was bought Mbappe and Haalands best year of their career. Mbappe scored 55 goals and Haaland scored 47, you need to COMBINE those 2 career achievements to beat Messis record in 2012
in years of watching messi, not player outside of 2012 messi can be considered "one man army". Dude was literally dribbling past the whole team in occasions.
The difference between haaland and Messi is that teams learnt how to stop him. Some teams failed like wolves but the good teams shut him down with ease. Messi even tho being one of the most famous athletes in the world was never shut down, similar to Mbappe. You see players pop out of nowhere and they seem good at first but as they get more famous their opponents figure out how to stop him.
Yeah, eventually I remember how teams just started becoming more violent towards him because they had learnt that if they gave him half a second he would be on the way to score a goal. I'm amazed and grateful he didn't get more injuries in his prime. He just kept going.
A lot of folks agree that his prime was the following year 2013, he was on pace to outscore himself but was injured mid-season. Scary stuff, a defender's nightmare
The crazier thing is, that's just the goals and Messi has always been more than just goals. Assist, dribbling, passing and whatever, you name it. In 2012, he was unplayable. He was quick, he had finesse, he was deadly...he was alien on steroids that opened all 8 gates of chakra and went supreme saiyan. To me, that was the year any debate about who is the undisputed GOAT ended. Not in 2022. This dude was something else entirely a decade ago and still he is one of the very best playing now. In the words of Henry, "He's a freak"
@@bigsmoke6805 sure but this is Messi we're talking about. He wasn't just magnificent and unplayable in one year or just for the world cup. Since 2006 all the way up to right now, he has been one of the very best in history. 1943💀 Theres a reason nobody cares about bican: Whole career not well documented and most goals he scored were not official and against part time construction workers
@@faris8 I mean just because it's so many years that doesn't mean he wasn't amazing player. 821 goals were in official matches. Did you know he run 100 m sprint just 0,5 s slower than world record of that time?
Gotta give credit where credit is due. As a Madrid fan, that was amazing time to see Messi go nuts. CR7 and Messi hands down, will go as the best 2 players to ever play football.
The most unreal thing about this record is how messi fans are saying that Cristiano is tap in merchant, but most of his record year goals were just normal tap ins…🤷♂️
Ronaldo will never dribble past entire teams or 5 players at the same time while playing against barca or any actual strong team. Messi did that for fun against that Madrid super team
@@angelyuqi6709 …when someone answers like this “he will never dribble whole team” and things like this you already knows that this person is just kid or very not football guy. Football evolve so much in last 20-25 years that there aren’t any teams that will “enable” one player to past whole squad. There is big difference between dribbling past 2 or 3 players and whole teams. We are not in the era of Pele,Maradona and etc when one player can do whatever he wants and still score goal( absolutely no disrespect to this icons of the game!). Of course this goal vs Real Madrid was class, no one can say anything different, but in messi career he was helped if I can use this word from playing with very good players. When messi was doing his first steps in Barca they we’re already best team in Spain. He have comfort of playing with legends like Ronaldinho, Etoo, Xavi, iniesta. Another advantage that he have was league that he play. La liga is not that difficult, less running, less physical aspects of the game, slower tempo and many of better defenders were playing in England or Italy in that time. Messi wasn’t that much evolve in creating of attacks for Barca. He have more free room to move and less defending duties. Which helps him a lot with scoring more and more goals. When Cristiano was at beginning of his career he was flash and tricky midfielder. He was capable of passing one or more defenders over and over again, but he was not that good in the end of attacks when you need to finish or assist. If you think that Cristiano can’t past whole defend line of opponents teams there are many clips of him toying with one of the greatest defenders of all time, cuz I’m 100% sure you weren’t born or being too small and you miss those moments. Like Sir Alex Ferguson says that if Ronaldo starts his career in Spain he will have so much more goals then now! If arguable best coach in the world said this thing you just can’t say anything different, right?
The thing you need to understand that no ones blames a striker for his tap ins...the reason why people get mad is that when a tap in player who is only good at tap ins is compared to a verastile player..with good passing dribbling playmaking skills and scores as many as the tap in players....thats where hate came from and the players are being called ""tap in merchants"" when they trie to compare these players...
Thanks for the clarification on how crazy that record is. Seriously stats are FIFA game stats… hell not sure I can even pull that off in the game (unless it’s in easy mode).
I watched the entire compilation of Messi's goals of that year because Penaldo fans insisted it was filled with tapins. It's crazy how much misinformation that fanbase spreads about Football. Truly the most shameless sport fanbase there is.
Not just the sheer amount of goals but the nature of them. Absolutely dazzling. On top of that, the control, the acceleration the outrageous nutmugs at full speed. Undisputed greatest of all time by a long, long way.
4:22 I never quite realized it since everybody always talks about 91 goals in 69 games in 2012. But that the record for the 2011/12 season is SO much better (1,75/g to 1.30/g) than the year 2012 is absolutely insane.
if i did it right haaland should have 6 goals in 12 matches this year and one hatty, mbappe has 8 games and 9 goals, interesting tho if i did it right and mbappe does have 9 goals 5 came from 1 game and thats when they played against a 6th division team, idk mbappe is playing slow but just recently he started scoring, rn neither one is one pace, messi should rn have being around 14 games and 13 goals, rn mbappe has the best chance but thats only because he plays in ligue 1 plus like i said atleast half of his goals this season came from a 6th division and mbappe wont face such a bad team again, so realistically he has a chance at 50 unliekly 60, but he is playing in ligue 1 at his physical prime so who knows, halaand seems to have slowed down a lot compared to the start of the season
Ronaldo was also a goal machine but he never came close to this. The record is insanely hard to beat. Haaland so far has scored 36 goals in 36 matches, he has 33 more matches to score almost 60 more goals, that's just not happening.
Although I never want to see this record broken, It probably will be in the next 30 years. Footballs getting better and the players are getting better and the numbers are going to keep going up, especially with haaland and mbappe. People back then probably thought no one would break Gerd Mullers previous record but then Messi did that. I don't think we'll see anyone break his G/A record in 2012 though for a very very long time. But even if someone does break it, Messi will always be remembered as the greatest to ever play the game and no one can do what he does
Raymar and others, do you think if Haaland keeps up his pace of scoring right now, he could get somewhat close to this? Just a question for anyone! Love the content mate! 💗
rn in just 2023 not the season but the year he has 6 goals in 12 games, not bad, he has 1 hatty as well. to give a example to messi in 2012 at this time period he had if i did it right i think 14 games and 13 goals, meaning that imagine how haland is doing rn but with double his goals thast 2012 messi, and i haven't even added his assist im sure had atleast got 3 by now while erling has i think 1
Between 2006-2008, Messi was a machine, able to support both offensive and defending aspects required on the right side. Then, between 2010-2013, Messi's playing playmaking centre-forward was probably the best Messi, starting to be less involved when the first pressing couldn't give the ball back, but awesome at scoring, dribbling, passing and doing the first press after losing the ball. Around 2015, he reached, probably his most complete offensive time but he has started to lose a bit in intensity, pressing only when he felt it was worth it. With the years, getting older, he became a classical playmaking-attacking midfielder. Allowed to walk and press only when he feels it.

It’s hard to tell which one is his peak but my favorite version of him is the 18/19 season. A complete all round player
That was his prime as GOALSCORER. Messi is a definition of football. He's not only a goalscorer.

That year, is when the greatest player of all times played the game. That one year, he surpased all other footballers in the history of the game, including himself. Lionel Messi 2012 is the greatest footballer of all times and i doubt i'll see anything like him ever again. That was the pinnacle of all footballing greatness. All superlatives ended up coming short because every damn week he'd keep going futher and further and becoming greater and greater. At the end of that year or the start of the next, there was a new word added to the spanish vocabulary: "Inmessionante" joining "impresionante" impresive, and Messi.

I watched the entire compilation of Messi's goals of that year because Penaldo fans insisted it was filled with tapins. It's crazy how much misinformation that fanbase spreads about Football. Truly the most shameless sport fanbase there is.
Glad that someone relates it Aswell
Even if it was it’s still impressive. Ronaldo hasn’t even scored 70 in a year
Not just the sheer amount of goals but the nature of them. Absolutely dazzling. On top of that, the control, the acceleration the outrageous nutmugs at full speed. Undisputed greatest of all time by a long, long way.
THE GOAT

I never quite realized it since everybody always talks about 91 goals in 69 games in 2012.
But that the record for the 2011/12 season is SO much better (1,75/g to 1.30/g) than the year 2012 is absolutely insane.
Currently Mbappe and Haaland are the goal scoring machines now butTo be honest it’s very hard to break Messi’s 91 goals.
if i did it right haaland should have 6 goals in 12 matches this year and one hatty, mbappe has 8 games and 9 goals, interesting tho if i did it right and mbappe does have 9 goals 5 came from 1 game and thats when they played against a 6th division team, idk mbappe is playing slow but just recently he started scoring, rn neither one is one pace, messi should rn have being around 14 games and 13 goals, rn mbappe has the best chance but thats only because he plays in ligue 1 plus like i said atleast half of his goals this season came from a 6th division and mbappe wont face such a bad team again, so realistically he has a chance at 50 unliekly 60, but he is playing in ligue 1 at his physical prime so who knows, halaand seems to have slowed down a lot compared to the start of the season
No
Between 2006-2008, Messi was a machine, able to support both offensive and defending aspects required on the right side.
Allowed to walk and press only when he feels it.

simply the greatest to ever grace the football field
To give people an idea of just how insane this feat is… I challenge you to set the difficulty to world class on FIFA and see how many goals you can score with a single player in a season with no resets 💥
You know a record is hard when you cant break it in fifa😂
Messi the only GOAT.
Thank God I witnessed this king of football. Messi the greatest footballer forever.
Forever? I'm pretty sure that in 1000 years there will be a few guys better than him
The GOAT 🐐
I was 17 yo at 2013, just finishing high school, great times to watch Messi and Barcelona!
