  • How to install Givi's PL1121 side case mounting kit to a Honda CB500X.
    For my install I already had the 1121FZ Monokey top box rack.
    However if you'd prefer just the side case mounts you will also need the 1121KIT.
    2017 models have the additional option of the PL1121KIT. This kit includes an adapter that alters the direction of your exhaust.
    Mount being istalled in this video being installed.

      I'd suggest starting with something smaller at least during your first year if you don't have any previous experience. Get a second hand CB 250 or something like that.
      Having said that, the X is a really nice bike, bit tall maybe, but that depends on the rider.

    • @andrewstewart106
      @andrewstewart106 4 года назад

      Apologies for late reply, just came across the post while double checking a few things 😬. Have to admit Honda have done the last couple of adjustments for me when being serviced. If I have to make an adjustment I'd need to just familiarise myself again first. From memory there's a red/green marker near the axel noting chain wear and position. I'd loosen the axel and chain position nuts, after noting if both sides are straight and equally marked first. Then adjust each chain tension nut in small 1/4 turns on each side, checking tension and alignment as you go. I don't have any tools to check alignment of the chain exactly but if the markings are in equal position on both sides and the wheel free spins straight, not at a wobbly angle, that's usually good enough for me. After tightening things back up I just check everything again and visually make sure there's no major chain alignment issues. 👍

    Thanks for the video! Have been looking for one of these for little while. Your handguards are barkbusters storm? Was easy to install? I've heard some people having trouble to fit them on. Cheers mate.

    • @andrewstewart106
      @andrewstewart106 6 лет назад +1

      Rafael Gil cheers for the comment. Yes the guards are Barkbuster Storm. I didn't record the guard install as I wanted to find a good position first, 2 hours later I found an ok compromise. There is a point where the tank is not touched on full lock and the cables are not interfered with. What should have been the simplest product to install ended up being a pain in the butt. I may look at handlebar risers so I can have them exactly as I want them. I also altered the original bar weights to fit the Barkbuster bracket, there was a bit more vibration than stock with just the guards installed. Well worth the money and time though. Check out the end of my Scotland part 9 video as to why.

    Great video! With the Dolomiti side case on, how wide does it make the rear of the bike (inches) ? Can you still lane filter when needed ? Thank you.

    • @andrewstewart106
      @andrewstewart106 4 года назад

      Thanks for the comment. I've currently got the rack off the bike, trialing another luggage solution. When I had the cases mounted I'd say they were around an inch wider than the mirrors on each side. They are perhaps a little large for the cb500 range, but quality and capacity are amazing. I don't like lane splitting unless I have to but the cases did give me less confidence as you have to consider if they will fit through the gap based off a rough guesstimate from the mirrors width.

      Hi i own a CB500X 2017: i bought & installed CBow Mount specific for my bike from Hepco & Becker; great mounting system for side luggage. So i also bought CBow Side luggage from Hepco & Becker. Fantastic side luggage’s system. For the top back box, i’ve got the Givi mount specific for my bike, Givi M5 plate & E300N Givi box. Both are great on my CB500X 2017 so should be great too for the 2018. For crash bars & skid plate i’ve installed SW-Motech. I also installed Evotech radiator guard.

    Installed mine today on my 2016. One Dolomiti case fastens easily but the other is a real struggle. I wonder if the spacers in the kit should be used to stand the latch plate away from the frame?

    • @andrewstewart106

      I found the left side case harder to put on due to the bike leaning on the stand in that direction. I had to hold it on while aligning the 2 attachment points, it could be a little tricky.
