This whole thing is just so extreme. The fact that we don't even get safety signage in English in a bilingual country is deeply troubling. I moved here from South Africa (11 official languages) where a city has signage in 2 or 3 languages in size order of the dominant demographics in that region. I don't see why it would be so catastrophic to have English in smaller letters in a bilingual, North American, tourist-friendly city. Even just on directional and safety signage.
Outside of Québec, New Brunswick, and the territories, mostly everything is in English only from the provincial or municipal governments. Having the signage in French only encourages people to learn it, if it were in English as well, there would be no motivation. And on the Montréal metro, many safety instructions are in English as well.
@@jinjysbro The French-speaking population of other places is a drop in the water compared to the English-speaking population in Mtl. Mother is Quebecer, father is American. Law 101 did not allow me to go to elementary nor high school in English. I, in bold, would of preferred to study in English. That was taken away from me because of the 101 law. I have always disliked and disapproved of the Quebec government because of it. I am no less Quebecer than my peers from my French classes. The difference is, my preference and choices were taken away. I now study in an English university, and studied in an English cegep. I had the option and the choice to do so, but now with this new law, this might not be the case for others down the road with how badly things are changing. Quebecers need to understand one thing ( which I am, mind you.), French is not your identity, it is a way of communication. Open your eyes and realize that, people have preferences. I am fully bilingual, mother tongue in both languages. I sound like a full blown Quebecer when I speak French, and full blown anglophone when I speak English, with no noticeable accent in either. I am fully capable of chasing a career in either language, although I would rather do so in English. This mindset that Quebec extremists have is what had made me believe over the past 10 years (I am 22) that I do not wish to live in Quebec after finishing my studies. Quebec does not listen to its citizens, or at least not equally. They are stuck in the past and do not want to adapt in a positive and inclusive manner.

If the Quebec language (because let's be honest, what is spoken in Quebec is broken French, not the true French language) being forced into people's lives, it is because it is not what the majority of the people want. The only reason these kinds of bills are passing is because of the broken seat representation system we have currently with past the post system, but don't get me started on that. Bill 96 still protects historic Anglos. It just reduces foreign students which is a problem because, that is how big English schools make their money. That's it anglophone Quebecers, you are protesting at the behave of people who are richer then Legault. Good job.
Thank you Bill 96, kick the spoil, entitled and discriminatory English speakers out of Quebec, this is pay back for what they've done in the past in Quebec, new Orleans, Hawaii and trying their best to take over Puerto Rico.
If you feel like English speakers are trying to take over anything you’re just misinformed.
@@bubbleguppy4892 but they are trying, New Orleans used to speak French since they were heavily discriminated them and banned the French language. In Quebec, the Anglos are whining just because they don't wanna speak French, they brag how prideful they are when it comes to multiculturalism but that's all hoax, it's time for the anglos to admit that they don't belong in a francophone society. They move to Quebec because it's different than the rest of Canada but still wanna be treated like the monarchy.
Thanks

Quebec is hilarious.
this is called multicultural mess. where everyone wants their own religion symbols. own language . perfect multiverse chaos .that's democracy's side effect
100% agree, you have the right to choose where and in what language you want to do your education! PERIOD!!! A bunch of old folks thinking we're still in the 60's trying to force people to be stuck like them... All this 'cause they hate the fact that english has more opportunities world wide as they only want you to stay here like prisoners... Keep fighting!! All this is a long term plan to go for the referendum mark my word!!
You mean "keep whining" because if they treated you like the rest of Canada treats their Francophone and Indigenous community, you would really have something to Bray about,,Bunch of spoiled babies.
@@linefrenette9116what whinning for what.. Living off Canada transfer money?? Montreal has always been a bilingual city and will always be! Trying to force people to be french only will never work and you will lose most of your job... Especially in IT where almost everything is english...
@@Atem_S. Montreal has never been a bilingual city, in fact it is a French city and always has been.
As for the transfer you mention, it comes directly from the pockets of other Quebecers outside Montreal .
You are the most spoiled and whiny people in all of North America.
@@linefrenette9116 Montreal has always been a bilingual city... Even during la Nouvelle-France Era, people were speaking English! it was not a 100% french.. in the 60's the city was dominated by english (most of the corporate job heads were english speakers) it went down with the PQ and the referendum they tried to push in the 80's and 90's.. and now english is coming back again! What are you saying! The transfer money most comes from The western provinces.. Mostly BC & Alberta... You think Quebecers are that rich... Freedom of choice to be serve is English or French is right! Canada is a bilingual country...
@Atem_S. it should not be. IT should be done in thr local langague not english.
2:50 So it's fine for this Mohawk's kids to be mandated to speak English but attempting to learn French is too much for this guy? Now I'm realizing why the Québécois don't really like Mohawks too much.
They were right in 1989 to protest since a real estate company wanted to built a golf course on their sacred lands,,,,
@@linefrenette9116 That's true. The golf course idea was pointless. They were in the right to protect that land, even though some of the Warriors went on to do questionable things during and after Oka
The whole language thing is so 1960.
Get over it. The world is bilingual. We learn the language we need. English, french, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, Russian, Ukrainian.
Bill 96 is racism clear and simple.
what's is racist about Bill 96?
I will wait
@@megan2484 it's another knife in the ribs of the immigrants, native population and English minority of Quebec. To drive people away from Quebec. Got any more narrow minded questions?
@@harveyroad6 that does not answer the question why is this racist?
@@megan2484bill 96 and law 101 are racist based. 96 is discrimination against the Anglo community in that it reduces their ability to achieve high marks required to enter university. It is equivalent to ethic cleansing.

The loud minority. No one outside of montreal is complaining about this bill. If you’re not happy, move out. Ontario is right next to you
The bill does not go far enough.
Pity the average unilingual French-speaking little Pierre or Marie in elementary school where they will NOT learn English. What a handicap they will have . What limited opportunities in their future. But the separatist do not CARE. Quebec society is small in numbers and in mentality. C'est domage.
It's mostly English speakers that are complaining about the bill
not happy ? gtfo
Who's gonna work when all anglos gtfo?
In software, because of shortages due to rapid Montreal growth in the past 15 years companies were hiring out of province anglos. If you force them to leave... well, good luck.
