Your teaching methods are excellent. I am understanding more in my classes because I can watch your videos to reinforce learning. I wish I had found your lessons last year! Thanks.
I’m enjoying these lessons so much! At home I’m watching these videos and taking notes, then when driving or doing chores I listen to your podcast. So helpful and both are so well thought out and effective, thank you ☺️
I’m taking in person Spanish lessons with a Guatemalan. They’re great! But it’s also super helpful to have these things explained in English. You’re a great teacher. Thank you so much for making these available! They’re excellent.
Thank you for this video it was very helpful. Before this, I had a hard time understanding stem-changing verbs, but I feel much more confident about it now.
Thanks as a Spanish speaker I was trying to explain how the stem changes but I naturally already know it, so it’s interesting to find out the rules so I can let them know next time thanks so much!
Thank you Danny! I am from China , but live in Sweden, and now I moved to Marbella since I almost get retired, it is not easy to learn a new language in my age, specially the pronounce is difficult. Thank you for your courses, you helped me a lot. I will continue study.
Fun linguistic fact: the e→ie and o→ue changes come from a historic sound change from Latin to Spanish! In Vulgar Latin (the spoken vernacular that was the basis of the Romance languages), vowel length was developed. The Vulgar Latin short E and short O, when stressed, evolved into IE and UE in Spanish. This is how, for example, "petra" became "piedra", "festa" became "fiesta", "bonum" became "bueno", and "porta" became "puerta". This was a regular and largely systematic change, known as "vowel breaking". In Spanish, it happened in both open and closed syllables (open=ending in a vowel; closed=ending in a consonant), whereas in Italian, it happened only in open syllables (so, for the above words, Italian has "pietra" and "buono", but "festa" and "porta"). In Portuguese, this change didn't happen at all (pedra, bom, festa, porta). This vowel change only happened when the vowel was stressed, which is why, in Spanish, the nosotros and vosotros forms of stem-changing verbs don't have the change (V.L. pensAmus → Sp. pensamos, pensAtis→pensáis; but pEnso→pienso, pEnsas→piensas, pEnsat→piensa, pEnsant→piensan).
Joined last week your Chanel and very happy I stumbled on you . I started learning Spanish now that I moved to Catalonia and let me tell you, you are a great deal of help to me. Gratitude 🙏
Filipina American here, speaking Spanish since 5 yo. Don’t know why I watched this, but wow his accent is great for a southern American teacher!! ¡Su acento me suena muy bien!
One thing I learned while learning Spanish is that even with verbs you may never have seen before you can instinctively know whether it is a stem-changer or not. Check in the dictionary anyway to be sure and if you find you’re right it really boosts your confidence.
What is your name? Is it dr. Danny Evans? If it is,then hello again. You look familiar. Well, thank you for this amazing video. Muchas gracias, eres muy simpatico😊😊😊😊😊😊
I'm confused and need help, how do you know if it's a stem changing verb or nor? I've watched the video twice and still don't get it. Hablar, caminar etc don't change so why do preferir and perder? What's the difference? Someone please help.
i dont understand one thing. in another video of yours "decir" is also a stem changing verb which has 2 syllables which we are gonna change the first vowel which is an "e". we changed that e letter to "i" letter. but in this video, perder is also has the same things so i thought we are gonna make perder`s e to i. just like with decir, but we didn`t. what is the difference? thank you and i love your classes.

I try using the term "STAY, STAY, STAY, NO, NO, STAY!!!" when attempting to find whether or not the stem needs to be changed. Figured that may help someone. :)
i am following you. i can do your recommendation to conjugate other stem verbs but i need to here your pronunciation or another person who knows how to pronounce, doing on my own really slows me down. .
The only reason I am staying afloat in Spanish class is because of YOU and your videos!

In the word decir (2syllable),we use digo (e is replaced by i) but in perder (2 syllables) e is replaced by ie. Can you explain it why?

Which verbs require stem changing and how to identify it?
